As an avid trapshooter for over 50 years, I had the pleasure of meeting Al and son Joe back in the 60’s and 70’s at the Grand American in Vandalia Ohio. Although the Spacegun didn’t take off, the Monogun was well sought after. It was a beautifully built piece and was often seen on the firing line. Your mention of the release trigger is interesting. It primarily came into popularity to midigate the effects of flinching. Most with this condition would jerk terribly when trying to pull the trigger and not allow them to actually pull the trigger resulting in a missed target. A release trigger did not cure a flinch, but when you did, the jerk would bring your finger off the trigger at the right time usually resulting in a broken target.
I’m an NSSA shooter, and you see release triggers from time to time. The purpose is to correct flinch when pulling the trigger. Personally, I think they’re unsafe. The procedure for a “no-bird” is to point the gun down range and shoot the round since there’s no way to release the trigger without firing.
Release triggers show up a lot in the trap world. On a break open shotgun, it is very easy to clear the gun after you set the trigger. You simply use your non-trigger hand to operate the barrel release lever. This lets the barrel pivot out of the way of the firing pin. You can then release the trigger as the firing pin won't contact the shell. On a semi-auto shotgun, I think they are very unsafe.
How is firing the gun downrange in the direction you would be shooting anyway unsafe? I'm not a fan of release triggers in the least but understand why some people need them to continue in the sport they love. On break open guns you simply open the action and then release the trigger, with some pumps and semi autos applying the safety will reset the trigger a few have a separate lever to reset and some you have the choice of awkwardly ejecting the round or just firing the round downrange in a safe manner. The only sport I've competed in the allows release triggers is American Trap which only allows one round to be in the gun.
@CCW1911 Consider how limited your options become if a person were to unexpectedly be found down range. That pretty much leaves you with keeping the trigger depressed, which keeps the gun about as unsafe as possible, firing upwards, firing downwards or firing around the person.

If you're referring to the Farquahar-Hill, he has the original from over a decade ago and one from...a few years back? He looked at it in a series from the Royal Armories Collection, and had two different rifles to compare to, showing development on both.

I had the pleasure of meeting Al in Reno during the mid 80s. He let me shoot one of his Space Guns. I was shooting a Mod 99 Winchester, another single shotgun. And yes, the Space Gun did have a much less felt recoil.
Ian, Many lifetimes gone, I shot skeet at the Oak Tree Gun Club in Southern California. Of course trap was the big draw and I actually shot a round or two but skeet was my game. But I digress. On several occasions I saw not one but two Ljutic Spaceguns in the gun racks. Always during trap tournaments. They were a can’t miss item! Interestingly, the gentlemen who owned said shotguns were only mediocre gunners at best. Once I witnessed an informal round of trap where the gentleman using the space gun was not the owner. In four rounds he scored 100 out of 100. Sometimes a good gun just needs to be in the right hands. Those shotguns were strange to behold yet strikingly handsome at the same time. Your specimen is very easy on the eyes. And in the intervening years it has grown significantly less strange. Thank you for a walk down memory lane. Or would it be a trip down the rabbit hole? Keep the aspidistra flying! God bless, Paul

Interesting trip down memory lane seeing the Space Gun and hearing about Al Ljutic. Al was a very mercurial character whose antics spawned many trap range stories over the years. His wife, Nadine, seemed to be the stable force who kept the company prospering over the years. I always enjoyed my visits to their offices in Yakima all those long years ago. Also, I believe Al died in 2011 at age 94.

It's time we took UA-cam to court to be held accountable for their blatant lies and attacks on honest creators.
I am german and such a gun was shown in a Swiss arms magazine. There was in 1980s an austrian TV Comedy Show,, Kottan ermittelt ' ( Kottan investigates). There appeared a one- legged detective, and author of Swiss arms magazine article thought, this gun would be a good crotch (?) / Krücke for the one- legged detective of Comedy Show.
I remember when these guns came out. The brochure showed several different versions. At the time my friends and I wondered who American astronauts might want to shoot at since space exploration was meant to be a peaceful endeavour. Alien lifeforms perhaps? It would be marvellous if you could one day do a video on the TP-82 combination pistol which really did go into space many times. It was never intended to be used in space but rather as a survival aid for cosmonauts landing in the Siberian wilderness while they waited for rescue.

I have always wanted this gun....what a work of art and as Ian took it apart I was struck by the genius simplicity of the design...neither over-engineered nor under-engineered it's ...just right! Thanks, Ian!
You can imagine him showing up at the range trying to suppress a smug grin.
"Where the hell did you get that thing Al?"
"Made it..."
I think we need a explanation video, because it looks looks like the edit that was done was to remove any mention of Rock Island Auction from the video.
Yes, UA-cam no longer allows promotion of gun sales or gun sellers. Saying that a gun is for sale is not allowed.
Even a gun that was sold a couple of years ago...YT just gets more and more lame...
I think I'll go to the range today instead of wasting my time on YT...
@@Jreb1865 I think I'll join you.
Loved this the first time round, enjoyed rewatching it.
Farquar-Hill?!?
Was the first Forgotten Weapons video I saw, I hope Ian will revisit that one day.
If you're referring to the Farquahar-Hill, he has the original from over a decade ago and one from...a few years back? He looked at it in a series from the Royal Armories Collection, and had two different rifles to compare to, showing development on both.
@Noah Rollins yes that one with an added a and h!
I think I missed that, must look it up.
Thx
Mine I think was the Von Stiegler self ejecting, fell in love with his format and was introduced to a really neat type of firearm that I was unaware of
@@MrEvan312 another one I've got to look up.
Thx for the tip.👍
@@marcusott2973 It's a blast, these EXTREMELY swiss revolvers that are monstrously complex inside but automatically kick out spent cases
I had the pleasure of meeting Al in Reno during the mid 80s. He let me shoot one of his Space Guns. I was shooting a Mod 99 Winchester, another single shotgun. And yes, the Space Gun did have a much less felt recoil.
Ian,
Many lifetimes gone, I shot skeet at the Oak Tree Gun Club in Southern California.
God bless,
Paul
Used one years ago... for a few rounds. They are great. Used his mono gun for a few rounds... they are incredible!
Something I've always enjoyed about this channel, especially as someone left of center, is that it's remained pretty apolitical in comparison to a lot of other channels that talk about firearms history and technology. It's such a shame seeing UA-cam policies making it more difficult for this kind of content to succeed, especially since it's pretty completely benign and a breath of fresh air in terms of how people talk about the subject.
It's hard when leftists go after gun owners for existing. See what happened to administrative results.
@@cassiedoesmusic2606 "I like the second amendment I just don't support the first" This is the same thing the people who doxxed admin said, this is why leftists are never welcome to the 2A community. You support the system's war against dissidents whenever violence happens but instead of disarmament you push censorship with the same talking points.
@@LonginusDlyun cope harder
Imagine being the kind of badass to say, "Oh shit, I don't have a shotgun to bring... oh well, I'll just make one" and come out with something that isn't just a 4-winds.
That sight rib on the front of the gun kinda reminds me of the star wars DC-15A; it has a similar profile altogether
Pretty sure the DC15A is based on this
@@berbtheherb perhaps some elements, but remember that it is built off the MG-34 like the DLT-19s were in the Original Trilogy
Be me still waiting for Ian to do a Star Wars series of fogortten weapons 💀
So i Am Not alone Here! Neat
Wow incredible craftsmanship
Like the finish is so smooth 🤙🏽
One of my favorite of the unique designs.
Reposting your old videos helps us users with special needs who have a hard time finding and going thru the older videos. Thanks brother 😊
You've got to be kidding me. It's come down to UA-cam not allowing the showing of the logo of a reputable auction house. SMH!!!!
The furniture on this example is absolutely gorgeous!
Re-liked, just because. Thanks, Ian!
Well, one upside of you having to repost these is that I get them popping up in my recommended and I have never seen a lot of them. I will make sure to like all the new ones I see so more people can see them.
That is a lot like a sprung sliding pipe gun that I didn't build a decade ago...
It's a boom-tube, and I have not really had a need for sights, general proximity point & click is enough.
Thats is a beautiful 'Tube'! My favourite part is the 'wood tubes' and how they compliment the rest of the tube.
Years ago I went to the local range for a little skeet. The guy next to me had a Spacegun. I was so distracted looking at it that I forgot to load up a couple of times! After the session, the owner held the Spacegun while I looked it over. I was impressed and have watched for one to become available. Alas, so far I've failed.
At least it's fun to rewatch these classics
Thanks for doing your best to share us!
UA-cam mush have learned how to make "rules" from the ATF.
Wow. Crazy but well thought out design. It looks extremely well made too.
Very pretty. Great finishing.
I originally saw the Ljutic Space Gun in the 1960s, in Gun Digest catalogue section. It always intrigued me, it looked like a Factory made version of the PI Guerilla Gun.
This FW has explained well the principles of action of this SG, nice to know.
DocAV
Wow! This Ljutic deserves a medal or award for the most beautiful riffle design ever made.
What magnificent design!
Far ahead of its time
They're really weird to shoot though. Shot one once... Couldn't hit anything
It was a pleasure rewatching this re-upload.
Damn that was like 5 years ago when you first posted it
"Is that a gun or a walking cane?"
"Yes."
Gun canes are friggin dangerous, cos they are often over a hundred old. There was one at an auction here in the UK, and it went off cos no one had checked it.
@@blackcountryme Holy crap, that’s quite a shock.
@@blackcountryme Proof?
@@bayersbluebayoubioweapon8477 It was in an auction room, it was listed as a walking cane not a gun cane, someone picked it up, if you tilt them the trigger comes out and then can be pulled. someone picked it up and pressed it. was in the local paper. same as sword canes. I think they banned those things.
how do they protect the muzzle? seems like something would be Needed ...
Still a bucket list item. They were made in Rifle, Pistol and shotgun versions and were in gun books and such many years ago.
Great video shame that even keywords in a video can make it hard to monetize in a yt video and they are always changing policies all the time
Lmao he cut out rock island's logo
I see what was edited/censored. My GAWD, we can't have THAT, CAN we!!!! LOL
I would almost prefer to see Forgotten Weapons move to a platform that cares about availability of information and historical completeness, especially as UA-cam continues to prove that it will not continue to be an internet mainstay in the future.
That is a mind boggling prospect for you to have to re-edit old stuff, you have so many vids.
Might I suggest future RIA videos that get reissued cover the logo with something that pokes fun at the silly rule.
Props to the mysterious boogie man that’s auctioning this off.
I remember these being advertised in Gun Digest in the 70's and 80's
I've wanted a Ljutic Space Gun in 308 Winchester ever since I saw one listed in Gun Digest back around 1986 or 1987. I thought they were a little pricey back then (Around $1000). I believe the rifles versions were called: "Space Rifles" in catalogs back then.
Even though it is on the ugly side this thing is well thought out and executed beautifully. It seems to be very solidly built with good fit and finish too.
UA-cam allowed sexual, weird and hoax content but they didnt like smth abt people who give a education about firearms and history lmao
Keep good work ian we love your work ❤️
Do you have to edit out the RIA logo for every video? UA-cam’s rules are the most stupid thing especially if they aren’t published
I was hoping this was going to be a plasma rifle in the forty kilowatt range.
I saw the thumbnail and was so perplexed I clicked immediately
Thank you , Ian .

Fucking YT doesn't even know its own rules; it appears to be wildly subjective, depending on who you get as a reviewer.
You don't even get a reviewer unless you're big enough and already contest the decision at least once. The whole thing is a match stick tower of capricious AI.
@@mzaite fair point
Nice video
I tried out a Ljutic Space Gun in the early 90's
But the one I tried out was a Short rib model
We couldn't agree on a price so I passed
As for the release trigger , still being used
I have a "Release Pull" trigger on my Skeet gun
Looks like any reference to RIA was cut
Side note; would love for you to revisit older videos from way earlier in the channels history with your current setup, quality, and any future knowledge you may have learned on those guns
New day, new low over at UA-cam HQ. They'd sooner "fix" this than the swath of people impersonating creators in attempted scams.
Those scams bring in good ad revenue.
Repost gang
Was wondering what's being changed and the first second in I can already see the R.I.A. sign was gone.
Really? YT!?
"Man, what are you doing with a gun in space?" -Armageddon
I seem to recall seeing these in the gun digest several years ago.
Love how the recut was just an oval over what we all know is the Rock Island Auction logo.
Ww2 was the 1940 Olympics the wildest Olympics ever
Here's an official resume of UA-cam's rules:
Your video will be taken down if:,
1-Someone with money doesn't like it.
2-Some media company doesn't want you posting it.
3-A random UA-cam employee dislikes you/your content/your video.
4-We decide the video has harmful content (as for what harmful content is, please refer to rules 1, 2 and 3).
I got to see one of these "in the wild" back in the mid 80's.
at least UA-cam didn’t make Ian edit out the ghost of Al Ljutic from the video at 3:28, hahah
After a few fights, Ljutic forgot what a gun looks like and invented a gun
As if me learning how to use an incredibly rare gun I’ll never is something UA-cam should worry about
UA-cam needs to be held accountable. They attack normal creators for arbitrary ""rule violations" but refuse to clearly define the rules. But some weirdo channel in India or something like that can get away with showing the features of a sex doll in detail and I can't even find a report button on that channel period.
Thats what they want you to think. Space is clearly haunted
TP-82 video is long overdue...
To UA-cam...thank goodness for Utreon.
„UA-cam, stop moving the goalposts!“ *screeches flailing the goalposts*
the little frame thingy on the front reminds me of the dc-15a star wars rifle
Hmm, I didn't realize firing upon release of the trigger came long before the binary system. Absolutely love this channel, I learn something new every day.
I really don't like how there was a background audio sting after Ian talked about Ljutic's death at 3:29
3:30 that sound in the background caught me off guard
This look amazing, like how they saw futuristic rifle in old futuristic movie/art/comics/manga etc ....
all changes should be from that date on.
Ian is the man.
