I don't understand this trout tickling thing. If you are able to approach a fish slowly and carefully enough so that the fish doesn't panic and lets you rub his belly for a minute or two, wouldn't it be faster and easier to catch it in a net or spear it?
I've caught fish in the river Deben in Suffolk UK just by sitting still and grabbing them......It's odd that there aren't more vids on here showing the old skills.
I think "catch and release" is worse than "catch and eat." If you're going to eat the fish, you have good reason to catch it. If you are just going to catch and release, it seems like you are just harassing the fish for no reason.

the main reason this practice was ever popular was among poachers because no incriminating equipment was needed to catch the fish
