Both the old locks and the new locks have an amazing story. The original Panama Canal has amazing technology for the time that it was built, and the new locks are a modern marvel of technology and engineering.
We cannot thank you both enough for showing us such an amazing time. The canal itself was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but getting to share so many laughs and make more wonderful memories together was just terrific. It reminded us how much great friendships are such a key part of enjoying our lives as nomads. You two sail safe, and we'll look forward to the next time. Love and miss you both.
Friendships that truly last a lifetime. I know we can count on you guys for anything, no matter where in the world we may be. And there's only a handful of people in our lives that we can say the same for. You guys rock and it's our privilege to have you aboard Curiosity.
You guys rock. Sure would love to meet you if you ever come to the west coast of Florida. Sure would love to meet you for friendship and fun. We have things in common . Ya's did a great job crewing on Curiosity as ya's transited the mighty Panama Canal. It was exciting . Glad ya'll had fun together . It was neat seeing ya'll doing serious work then seeing ya'll letting your hair down laughing & having after the days work was done . Have ya's ever crewed on a catamaran before?
Bob Shaw Thanks so much, Bob! We really had an awesome time. This was our second time crewing, but first time doing it on a sailboat. SO much more complex than a motorboat!
What's so sool is to think what it took to build it. Think of what tools they had and all the men that got hurt . Smashed arms hands legs feet. And the men that died. And then the amount of time it took. Amazing truly amazing.
I love it when Nikki is standing in the wind and her shirt is flowing in the breeze.. She looks like a princess. Happy sailing you two and I'm looking forward to seeing what the Pacific has for y'all!!
Without a doubt, one of your best videos. I am sorry it ended. Well shot, edited, narrated, ...everything. It was as if we were all there with you. Congrats.
Not only was this very interesting but an education as well. In school I learned about the history of construction of the canal . The great need for it, including the benefits of problems resolved by constructing it. Sadly the cost of the many lives lost due to mosquitoes included. Naturally any schoolboy learning some of its darker history is left with quiet thoughts of " I am not going there to be chewed up by malaria carrying skeeters". Thank you for doing this informative video. It did leave me with better impressions of it and I discovered fresh new details of it. Thank you :)
Easily the best Panama Canal transit video I have seen. And it is the only one I have watched that makes me actually want to do it myself on day. Can't wait to see your Pacific adventures.
I was disappointed at first because I thought that 15:18 was the entire thing! I agree, this video really gave you an idea of what it would be like. And so much history and learning... boat stuff!
The most fun I've had in my bed in a while....lol!! I learned stuff seen things other cruisers forget we on the hard find riviting....Thanks loves!!🤘❤😻🐱🌞😊⛵🌴❗
Jason and Nikki. IMHO this is the best UA-cam video ever. We have waited for this video since November and it was worth the wait. You helped us experience a dream transit and added some history. Safe sailing with calm following seas and steady winds. 50 years ago we dreamed and talked about such an adventure but chose a “normal” life. You’re following your hearts, living a wonderful life and taking thousands with you. Excellent content. Thanks.
When I was in the Navy I went through the locks twice. It always amazed me how fast they could move the water in and out of the locks. I have the video on Super 8 movie film. lol
Your honest enthusiasm and energy is what makes your videos some of the best sailing videos. You make it fun to watch. Keep them coming. Also congrats for checking “transit the Panama Canal”
This is one of the best Panama Canal transit videos I've seen! Thank you for not splitting it into two videos. You've raised the bar for other cruisers who are planning on transiting the canal in their video series.
Wow, as a panamanian myself, and also a navigation student its so amazing to see so much detailed information in this video, i have done like 4 or 5 transits on the canal but it is always a new experience in each transit, very nice video guys keep it up!!!🤘
I have been through the canal a dozen times as a line handler for sailboats transiting the canal. Great fun. It is very impressive that the locks fill and empty by gravity feed. The are no pumps involved, just gravity feed. My last transit was in 1986. Thank you for bringing back the memories.
Really fun to watch. I've been the skipper of two ships for the Navy and taken the trip through the canal 3 times. Wonderful memories and it looks like a LOT more fun in Curiosity!! Keep living your dream!
Ahh the Canal... I remember it well. I went from Pacific to Atlantic side however. One thing to note.. There are no pumps. All that water flow is directly from the flow of the Chagres River. Quite amazing really.
Just stumbled on to this video. I was in an aviation unit in the Army stationed in Ft. Kobbe on Howard AFB in 1980-'82. We flew the canal almost daily going from the Pacific side to Ft. Sherman on the Atlantic side. I was always memorized by the shire size how much water used to flood that area; massive area seen from the air, you can see jungle trees under water from the air, and the lock technology. Thanks for sharing. Love your story too.
I would like to thank you guys for the special Adventure you really don't realize how much this means to me I'm 64 years old this is the first time I seen the Panama Canal all I heard was stories about it my father was one of them that helped build a canal thank you so much
I realize that this was in 2018 and that I am just now seeing it but, I am as excited as you are for you. Now at 80 I am not able to do it but it has always been my dream. Glad you are living yours now. Don't stop!
Watched your video immediately following Peter and John’s Geek version. Not at all repetitive. Yes, a different view of same voyage but also completely different. The Geeks gave us engineering particulars; i.e., loved the maps, lock details, and narrative (but not the music). It’s sort of the context of the Wynn video. Here, we see more individual viewpoint, a bit like a macro and micro. Both so super. Huge thanks for this wonderful travelogue. As a retired educator, I would easily show both the videos while teaching Panama Canal history. One thing to read about the construction of the Canal 100 years ago (high drama in itself). Another to virtually go through it today - and with such wonderful company. Thank you, thank you! Can’t wait to sail the Pacific.
@@gonewiththewynns Danielle and I plan to downsize our life once our youngest son is out of high school in 2.5 years. We just started an Explore Florida series on our UA-cam and are improving our blog backend while adding content. Our dream of sailing will be a reality soon enough, but we are enjoying the journey not wanting to rush to the destination. Sincerely, Chris -N- Danielle || Big Dreams.
That looked fun. I've watched a couple videos where it looked a lot more sketchy because of how many boats where rafted together and how close they were parked to the container ship. Well, welcome to the Pacific... the best ocean.
I have watched a lot of your videos and they have been fantastic. But this is the best. Thank you so much for talking us along. For sharing with us. I love all your videos.
Now That was a lot of fun kids! Your transit crew were great and a special thanks to the "Advisors" who got you through without a scratch(we hope). I have only gone through the Eastern side of the canal in a cruise ship and seeing the walls of the canal that still show the old wood grain from the original forming of them was a unique part of our trip. Imagining all of the heartache, pain and loss of so many lives truly brings to light what an immense project this was so long ago. Too bad we gave control to the Panamanians! Hopefully they won't mess it up!!!!
That is the most amazing video I've ever seen! I was absolutely riveted! Nikki YOU ARE A BOSS! Piloting the boat AND top-notch hostess! The whole crew - just great. Peter, John, and Mary you guys were great!. All the info and the flavor of the Lock personnel, just the best. That is an episode for the history books. Awesome editing. Wow... I'm just blown away... So good. Congrats on a safe passage!
Thank you for another SUPER COOL Vlog !!! Good Side Tow drill (did not see a Spring line). Interesting Cleat set in locks. I am use to Floating Bits in locks on the Columbia river up thru the Snake river to Clarkston-Lewiston ID (729 ft alt). You guys have learned very fast how to handle a boat :) Not so worried about you guys now. "When a ships horn sounds hollow. Rain will surely follow." Fair Seas to you.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience. I have seen pictures and videos of cruise ships going through but this was so much better. Always been on my bucket list and am so grateful to have gone through with you. Wonderful crew and Captain,! So glad Jason!’s mom got to make the trip. I know she is proud of you both. Safe sailing .
Goose bumps, you have very well made videos, a friend of mine is a documentary maker. Award winning, famous. I was still around in Holland when they made their first movie. I will send them this video, they are great people, like yourself..
Have watched every one of your sailing videos and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Thank you for sharing this particularly most educational and enjoyable once-in-a-lifetime experience you folks have just completed. All the best.
What a cool experience and what a fun couple of days. Captain Nikki, First Mate and the crew did well! I just love your determination to have fun and make the most of everything you do. Great job guys and thanks again for a wonderful video. Can’t wait to follow the Pacific adventures now!
Living the dream! Hope y'all are on the water again! Can't wait to see CURIOSITY sailing the high seas once more! May all your travels be blessed with safety, love, fun and calm seas! Here's to The Wynns, thank you for all the wonderful content! May it last FOREVER!

You guys are awesome!!! It's such a joy watching everything you are doing and everywhere you are going. You make it a lot of fun for us. It makes me wish I were with you. Thanks for the video and keep them coming.

Completely love Jason's historical lesson.
I almost cried watching this. 8 times through the locks and I will go again!
Mary "Mom" you are exquisite! RV Geeks Great Chemistry! Cannot ever not smile when I watch GWTW's videos Love you guys!

Marveling at the skills of that pilot boat captain.
So, I believe this video has received the most likes out of all your videos thus far since boat shopping in Fort lauderdale

Well done Nikki. You've done brilliantly. Couldn't have done any better myself.
I love Nikki's enthusiasm. Great video! Thank you.

Hell yeah! It is still a Modern Marvel!
Awesome video! Glad to see the Chambong getting some screentime hahaha that and Nikki being badass at the helm is always a plus!
It was so exciting to transit the locks with you. Having done it on a cruise ship, we could only see so much. Thanks so much. 👍👍

So darn cool to ride along with you guys. Oh and love the Kitty Cat.
That was very interesting. Thank you. Good job to the crew and a special recognition to the Boss Nikki! Cheers!!!
Thanks for sharing your Panama Canal Experience
Great Video! Nice to see you guys with the RV Geeks. Those advisors have it made they had Wonderful lunch made by Nikki. Thanks for everything you do.
Great moments. Can't stop watching.
First time I've seen anyone go through the locks. You made it look easier than I was expecting.
Your food spread was beautiful, showed respect and dignity toward your advisors, and is a testament to what wonderful people you are. Love it!
LOVE your crew (especially Mom)!

What a totally awesome experience! I so enjoyed watching your video! Thanks for sharing. Cheers
Congratulations on a quarter of a million subscribers🎉🎉🎉🎉
Congratulations on making it to the Pacific. Can't wait to see where you go next.
So cool!!! Congratulations on the successful transit!
Best video yet ! Your crew should just stay, mom and the boys are fun.
Love RV Geeks and just mum. Thank you brilliant video
Thanks for allowing me to see something I would have never experience otherwise! Fascinating! Congratulations on this remarkable event.

This one was the best ever !!! Loved it so much.. Be safe and God bless you guys..
I went thru the canal in 1966 on a US destroyer and it was fantastic but I would trade that to do it with you. Nikki is so much fun !
Great video, great advise, thank you for the share, love all your newest videos as well.
Thanks for love and for watching! You planning on transiting soon?

Loved the passage. We just did this through 26 locks on the Danube. We were doing the same happy dance😁Thanks for sharing.
That looked fun. I've watched a couple videos where it looked a lot more sketchy because of how many boats where rafted together and how close they were parked to the container ship. Well, welcome to the Pacific... the best ocean.

Love this, great work by all and especially love Nikki's enthusiasm and current hairstyle.
