I think several factors contributed to Hernandez being the way he was. Him going to Florida and playing under Meyer who had a team of knuckleheads that had a long leash didn't help. And him getting drafted to the Patriots putting him back in his own neighborhood was the nail in the coffin. Had he gone to a school with tougher discipline and played on a west coast team in the NFL. Things "maybe" had been different
Honestly he never really stood a chance. He got assaulted as a kid, his dad was an alcoholic who beat him, his parents fought all the time, his dad died when he was 16. Definitely not defending him, but he had a troubled life right from the start. It’s no surprise he turned out the way he did
Nobody is saying it but Hernandez was a great player who would have made the Hall of Fame. I've never seen a tight end with his skill set. The guy was unstoppable.
4:50......He was only 6ft 2in 240lbs as TE in the NFL. Thats small for the NFL and Arron took on contact with the crown of his head so i assume he was always hurt and Light confirmed it.
People here are asking why the hosts shut down the conversation topic of Mahomes and Kelce not being “great leaders”. A - it’s true, they don’t seem like great leaders but, they’re unbelievably great players, and that was Matt’s point. B - the hosts started squirming because it’s been made clear by the NFL that Pat and Travis are the heir apparent to Brady and Gronk and will be the most profitable story for the NFL for the foreseeable future so everyone has to tow the line and play that narrative. It was comical how uncomfortable it made the hosts though. lol !
The guy was already a murderer by the time he was a Patriot, and guaranteed was weighing heavy on his mind, knowing the long law of the law would get him.
As a Dolphins fan but 🚫 t a Crowder fan, I remember when Hernandez's college buddy Channing Crowder became a Miami Dolphin and instigated a fight with Matt Licht during a game and Matt Licht beat the stuffing out of Crowder as Crowder ended up fighting to get loose and ran for his life.
Dude sounds just like Schlereth. Has a good voice for this and gives good, sound and honest insight. Don’t know why the shots at Mahomes & Kelce as leaders though. Does he just not like ‘em as people. We’ve seen ‘em lead with their play and we’ve seen them express themselves verbally. What else does he want? He doesn’t like that they smile or something lol?
A. Hernandez was a little girl on the inside, like all bullies. Unlike most bullies, he had a great opportunity for greatness, but he chose to ignore it.
Both truths ^. hes not a coward, he's reached the end of his life. Hell is repetition, and jail is repetition. There's no girls, no fun, no beer, no family... NOTHING! farting guys talking shit and trying to get something from you.
“Little girls?” Huh. I had no idea little girls were running around bullying people. It’s like we say things and don’t actually think how stupid they sound.
He was good at not saying very much about Hernandez while letting it be known he felt a certain way that set them apart. Obviously being different isn’t a problem, but when the loaded whatever is different implies some problem to other people, then perhaps call houston aliens. Like if aliens came down and were actually the lingerie football players coming back to teach us about love techniques and perfect hygetica, but war of the worlds no thanks. Even mork, so annoying. Alf, he’s okay if a bit sarcastic, that’s a negative humor people, but I don’t like cats enough to have one that he would try to eat. He not athlete. But Hernandez, boy is he different. Remember when they felt the need to parade him in front of his house upon being arrested, armless in a tshirt from bubbles. He looked mean. Meanie pants McGoops. Like watch out mean. A loaded gatling. He could have been the absolute best henchman in a Hollywood movie, like the dumb muscle that dies casually about two thirds through. But no, he had to go murdering people as far as we are led to think, only saying that bc courts are not exactly trustworthy all the time see divorce nor is any media, but certainly a lot of people with an observable modicum of integrity said he could have felt a bit leaning into murdery at least. Don’t smoke gas and comment/reply folks, unless you’re on the hub. Goodnight I love you ❤️
When people talk about Hernandez I always get the sense somebody wants Belichick or Kraft or Brady to somehow be directly guilty for Hernandez even though it simply isn’t there
Maybe, I see it as another example of how we let certain people get away with things in life and how people like Hernandez who are bullies and lazy get to do whatever they please and everyone else has to follow the rules of life, belichik should’ve disciplined him even when it came to the little things, Brady should have told him to get his act together and act like an adult, and lord knows Kraft was too busy getting massages to be concerned with what Hernandez was doing. If this guy wasn’t the only one pissed that he’s held to a standard not given to a thug then maybe his trajectory in life would’ve changed
WHY AREN'T MAHOMES AND MR. SWIFT NOT GOOD LEADERS, is the question that should have been asked at 10:12? The akward silence said everyone in that booth was hoping that the other guy was going to ask it.
Travis Kelce was screaming in Andy Reid's face during playoffs last year....to me, it came off as elder abuse. You don't ever do that to your coach. POS.

I can believe Light about the observation of a Jekyll and Hyde, seriously didn't even see it for how plain and explicit that explanation makes sense, a kid that grew up the way he did, abusive dad but still kissed the ground he walked on. The energy it also takes to put on that facade that he created within and obviously crafted that character very well, made even more believable when his father had passed before his time and during his HS years still. No wonder the media is still talking about this many years later.
Wow.... give the guy credit. He stuck it to Mahomes and Kelce. Outside looking in. I do not believe the comments on their leadership. What does he know about the locker room? Was he there with the Kelce speech that everyone applauded? Do they have bad work habits? Stupid comments that should have been challenged.
Funny not a single player who has left the team, including Tyreek Hill who seems to post something on social media bashing the Chiefs every day, ever has had anything bad to say about Mahomes or Kelce. The worst thing about it is Light doesn’t say what he knows that causes him to think they are bad leaders. He just slanders them without giving any actual accusations they could defend against. What a coward and a phony
Matt Light saying Mahomes and Kelce are bad leaders hasn't heard what the Chiefs players say about those two. They RAVE about them and their leadership.
So bill would give Hernandez a pass and longer leash after not.proving anything but consistently cut down Brady who fell into line and did everything and anything asked of him. On the surveys we have to remember there are players who have an axe to grind because they either felt like they didn’t play a big enough part in the Super Bowl victory, that they were underpaid, which was often an issue with the patriots, where they know they won’t be there next season, so they take out frustrations through the survey.

Some people wanna blame cte for the way hernandez acted. Not buying it. The guy was a dirt bag all around. Evil
He wasn’t right in the head long before putting on a football uniform
Honestly he never really stood a chance. He got assaulted as a kid, his dad was an alcoholic who beat him, his parents fought all the time, his dad died when he was 16. Definitely not defending him, but he had a troubled life right from the start. It’s no surprise he turned out the way he did
No fear of God! Won’t end well for you!
And what does unbelievable amounts of high TCC weed do to the brain? Plus a personality disorder. You're right, CTE was b s.
CTE is one of the factors plus any other issues prior to football. Don't presume judgement without all the facts, it's very ignorant.
Why are folks so afraid to say that hernandez was a POS? Except for Matt of course.
Excellent interview!
Matt Light casually talking about getting into near fistfights with a violent killer like it was a neighbor dispute
Matt Light seems like a 100% upright dude.
Hernandez was a TURD!!! That is being KIND!!

You are just as emotional as Hernandez.

Nobody is saying it but Hernandez was a great player who would have made the Hall of Fame. I've never seen a tight end with his skill set. The guy was unstoppable.
Yea, him and Gronk together was a sight to behold. I'm a Giants fan.
Nobody says he wasn't a great player, although the HOF wasn't assured since anybody's career can end on the next play

4:50......He was only 6ft 2in 240lbs as TE in the NFL. Thats small for the NFL and Arron took on contact with the crown of his head so i assume he was always hurt and Light confirmed it.
Maybe actually practicing and learning to did it right would have helped him. Imagine his ceiling if he put in 100%?
Te - fullback
People here are asking why the hosts shut down the conversation topic of Mahomes and Kelce not being “great leaders”. A - it’s true, they don’t seem like great leaders but, they’re unbelievably great players, and that was Matt’s point. B - the hosts started squirming because it’s been made clear by the NFL that Pat and Travis are the heir apparent to Brady and Gronk and will be the most profitable story for the NFL for the foreseeable future so everyone has to tow the line and play that narrative. It was comical how uncomfortable it made the hosts though. lol !
Nice interview. Good stories.
The guy was already a murderer by the time he was a Patriot, and guaranteed was weighing heavy on his mind, knowing the long law of the law would get him.
He didn't kill anyone before the patriots
I didn’t know Matt light was so awesome to hear, probably bc I’m a chicagolander and he was a pat
How can you say matt licht is better than Matt light?! Thats a crazy take

Aka Rock Hoover
A. Hernandez was a little girl on the inside, like all bullies. Unlike most bullies, he had a great opportunity for greatness, but he chose to ignore it.
When he was confronted with the reality of facing the consequences of his actions he committed suicide. He was a coward

What a idiotic statement he said! Matt comes across as a drama queen 😂

Sorry the DEI hire will destroy the patriots for the 4 years
You gotta check out him on Edelmans pod it’s funny as hell, if you haven’t yet of course
Did he really just call out Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce for their lack of leadership qualities?
The interviewers were stunned into silence.
Well get Tommy Thompson from your church for leadership then
I played against Brandon Lloyd in hs. Glad he is doing good.
POS.
What’s missing in the thread here is that Hernandez had severe CTE. When it started affecting his behavior, we’ll never know but it surely did when he offed that guy.
Feel free to let us all know what med school you graduated from.
Sounds like it began affecting him in the Pee-wee league.

I blame the NFL and the college of Florida. You send these men to JUCO or don’t allow them to be in college.
I only blame Hernandez..
College is a business like anything else.
Ted Bundy also went to college. Do you blame the University of Washington?
It is kind of disturbing how Hernandez was given a pass at UF after he busted the eardrums of a waiter in a restaurant.

The players should have had a team meeting with Mr. Hernandez. Then act accordingly.
Wow.... give the guy credit. He stuck it to Mahomes and Kelce. Outside looking in. I do not believe the comments on their leadership. What does he know about the locker room? Was he there with the Kelce speech that everyone applauded? Do they have bad work habits? Stupid comments that should have been challenged.
That one seemed odd. I wondered what he was basing his comments on.
So bill would give Hernandez a pass and longer leash after not.proving anything but consistently cut down Brady who fell into line and did everything and anything asked of him. And when players like Mathew Slater and Devon mccourty ("bill guys") say bill consistently went too far with Brady, it's an eye opener. Would 2007 Belichick have hired Romeo Cornell as offensive coordinator? No way!
