Someone finally did it- Acmer P3 2 in 1

- Acmer asked a while back if I wanted to try out the first ever 2 in 1 module in the P3. The machine is a gantry style core XY machine with IR and Blue laser module. I was excited to hear about the machine and agreed. Here is my initial thoughts after a couple of weeks of testing.
For templates that I have made, check out my Etsy shop. I build files for projects and tools for laser engravers as well as CNC project files.

Your video is incredibly impressive. Thank you for your attention and love for ACMER.
I like the machine. Thanks
Never realized that IR would do mirrors. Thanks for another very interesting and informed video.
Flip the image and come in from back.
Good call on the vent diffusers. When I saw them at the start I was thinking the same thing. Allows airflow and protection.
It may never be an issue at that angle but the fix was too easy to chance it.
It would be good if Acmer did make that change with the casing. Any light leak is dangerous. I’m sure they will be cool about it.its a machine I was looking to buy this week with the 48w head.
They seem receptive about correcting it.
Glad i waited for a diode laser some innovative products coming out. i am really interested in the Tyvok Spider S1!!
They are constantly evolving.
Will you be doing a video using the Acmer with a roller attachment for engraving tumblers? It’d be cool if you did
May
Nice to have air assist for both diode and IR. Not true on other fiber and IR lasers.
True..
Interesting laser. Thanks for sharing. Have a Great day. God Bless.
Thanks.. it is a cool build
Thanks for sharing this great video😀
Very welcome, I like the machine.
I think I would put the laser light Shields on the outside vs inside of enclosure.
Looks cleaner inside and was easier to align. Personal preference
So I’m curious, would you rather have this p3 dual laser over the atomstack a12 or a24 for a portable laser for shows to just engrave with? I know you had mentioned you use the atomstack now as your portable set up. I do a lot of aluminum signs and the ir is interesting. Thanks for the video
The dual laser module is good for engraving, the 24 watt is a bit faster on wood. If I had a 24 watt and the 2 in 1, that would be sweet. For cutting, I would get a 48 watt to slap on there.
Thanks for a good review of the Acemer. I wonder if you have knowledge of a program to convert .xcs files to svg files? Thanks in advance for your help. I find your contact both entertaining and most importantly a wonderful source of knowledge.
Thanks. Yes, XCS will export as an SVG.
How well do you think this laser would do engraving on black acrylic getting that "white engraved lettering" like pet memorials? Or portraits?
I haven't tested it a lot yet but it should do as well as any 2 watt.
Love your videos!! I have recently started my own wood working business. I have the Shapeoko 5 pro CNC and looking into adding a laser to my arsenal what do you consider the best all around laser machine? I don’t want to buy one and wish I had went with a step up soon after getting it. I would like to do wood, tumblers and other engravings. Thank you in advance for your input and keep up the good work.
The biggest variable is the work area. They range widely. The Roly MK2 is a good all round machine if you want it enclosed. The work area is the only limitation. I love my Atomstack machines but I build my own enclosures.
@@TheClackShack I have the work area. I would like for it to be enclosed so I don’t have to make an enclosure but not a deal breaker. If you had to buy one machine that can do the most which would it be. I’m drowning in research and reviews and you have tested several and do awesome work so your opinion weighs a lot. Thanks again for quick response!!!!
@@TymMontgomery by work area, I mean how by you are gonna be engraving. The machines vary in size
How about customer service? Do they have a help center here in the US?
I doubt they have help in the US, I am not aware of any diode companies that do.
@@chrisoliver3851 customer service is lacking. They are 13 hours ahead of central time and English is not
Dave, do you think there comes a point where we are better off with lower power lasers? The chance to have 60 and 70 watt units is tempting but the reviews I’ve seen for those have involved a lot of burned items.
They have their place. The less powered machines slow down production on cutting jobs. I like having multiple options.
Can you tell me David, how do you get to get free stuff all the time?
Work hard, usually about 16 hours a day for about 3 years and hope that God decides he wants you to have fun with your hobby after retirement.
I would like to see what the IR does to brass engraving. So does this machine come in a 24 diode and the IR together or 48 diode and IR?
It can engrave brass, it makes a grey to black engrave. To get a combo module, it is 10 & 2. The 24 and 48 are not combo modules. You could swap the module out and have a 24 or 48 also.
@@TheClackShack Thanks , I am really wanting to do some brass without using marking spray.
Unfortunately in order to get the combo head you can only get a 10W diode. They do have a 24/48watt head but it doesn't offer the IR. So basically the combo head is the same thing that the xTool F1 has in it. Bigger but not as fast as the F1.
Yes, they do offer the larger modules as a quick swap. It is a different animal than the galvo machines.
Can you engrave brass coins?
Yes, 1064 is fiber
