How To: Replace Tail Light Bulbs on a Honda Pilot
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лип 2016
- The Honda Pilot was not designed with an easy way to remove the tail light assembly. The pins that hold it in place make it difficult to pull the assembly off of the vehicle. After trying several methods, I created one that worked well for me. Do this at your own risk because there is always a chance you may crack your tail light assembly.

Good to know that the pins are on the 'outside' edge and not the inside near the screws.
Would have been easy break them by trying to pry away starting from the inside.
Although it took a bit of 'encouragement' to get the pins to pop out, this made it pretty simple work once I popped them out. GOOD JOB!
My wife is going to love me more for fixing this light 💡 . Thank you for your help. This video is very helpful 👍👏
That’s great! She will also love that you saved money doing it yourself! Be sure to subscribe. I have several videos for this vehicle.
The putty knife trick worked great! I used a rubber mallet instead of a hammer, but thanks for posting this. It made changing out the bulb incredibly easy!
lepersjoy I'm glad I was able to help. They need to design these better!
Hey guys; there is nothing wrong with the design; the lamp assembly cannot be easily removed without access to the cabin. Your videl saved me some frustration and I offer a much easier solution for unsmapping the blind pins. After removing the two bolts, get a small suction cup and attach it to the lens area and pull the assembly straight back. Works like a charm.
I just changed the bulb on our Pilot using your method and it was quick and easy. Thank you!
Great! I’m glad it worked for you too!
I have a bottle opener that I put tape over and inserted it between body and light. Worked. Nice quick video. It took me 5 min.
Nice idea!
It took me 2 minutes to do once I watched your video. Thank you!
That’s great to hear! I’m glad it helped you out.
This was very helpful I had tried a different video first but couldn't get the rear light assembly off using their approach. Using a hammer to tap in the the putty knife worked but I needed to use a plastic putty knife that had more thickness than a metal putty knife. Thanks!!
Worked Great!! I appreciate you taking the time to film and post this. Grateful!

Excellent narrative and demonstrat, extremely helpful
Thank you!
Very helpful, did this myself in less than 5min. Thank you so much!
Damian R That is awesome! What method did you use to get the tail light assembly out?
Thanks for the great video - short and sweet but full of information.
Thanks! I have over 200 similar style videos. You should consider subscribing.
I did exactly what you showed and it worked perfectly. Thank you for your video help.
Tim Plummer Awesome! I hope they have a better design on the newer models. It shouldn’t be this hard to change a bulb.
Thanks worked like a charm!
Mastroz Thata great news! I’m glad you were able to get it replaced.
Thanks a lot

@@TightWadDIY Will do. Gonna fix Grandma's right tail lamp assembly to save $$'s......believe Honda's shop rate is pretty ridiculous!
Appreciate the video! I wouldn’t have thought to use a putty knife. Thanks!
It worked well! A stiffer knife is better than a bendy one.
Amazing thank you! I also love the user name 😆
You’re so welcome and thanks! You should get you a tshirt too!
I was able to gently pry off with a flathead screwdriver. I got my pilot used so maybe once the assembly has been removed once, it's easier the second time?
It’s definitely easier the second time. I’m glad you got it off.
Just came across this. I too have a G sign above the 4x4!!!! Go Pack Go!!!
Jeremythevirus Huang Haha. Mine is actually for the Georgia Bulldogs.
You should test the function of the bulb before putting the lens assembly back in place.
Thanks, mine just pulled right out easily, pins were not tight on a 2012.
Dave McGrath That’s fortunate. It was a pain to get the assembly off of the pins.
Great tip with the plastic putty knife
Thanks. It did the trick for me.
what are all the part numbers to all the bulbs in that rear lens?
Honda Pilot [1st gen & 2nd gen] Tail light/Turn Signal [upper] - 7443 Tail Light/Brake Light [middle] - 7443 Reverse [Backup] - 921
Thank you
tu phan You are very welcome.
Mine is too stubborn can’t take it off I actually separated the lens from the mold a little 😤😤😤
You can do it! Are you positive the lens separated?
use gorilla tape (like duct tape) , stick to the side and pull back toward the rear
Does it leave any type of residue?
This is by far the best fix! Took all of 10 seconds with no residue from the glue.
