This is a beautiful representation of the Dickens Village. I can't imagine how long it took to set this up. When I did my display it took weeks of thinking to design HOW it would look , and it always was different each year...that was the fun of it. Seeing these houses, I notice none of the pieces I have...all things must change. The original pieces were soo simple and fun...the newer pieces have detail that in some ways is overdone. Gone are the days of what I did with my village due to no longer having that space, so I do a much, much smaller version of it... The one thing that you have done is "tell a story"...with NO words. The one thing I always said to anyone looking at my display was..."what do you see????"....they always said "lighted houses". They couldn't EVER figure out that it was a one second pause in the telling of A CHRISTMAS CAROL.......

Thank you for the wonderful comment. I arranged the houses in the way that would tell the stories from the book. I have not taken out my Dickens collection since 2019 for various reasons. But I’m hoping I can bring them all out this year. Mine has gone a lot larger.

So beautiful, with such meticulous attention to detail! I enjoy watching your videos, and can only hope that the little village I started this year will grow to be as wonderful as yours. Thanks for sharing!

Thejanjan39 thank you. I started collecting in 2007. I had a small 1 house and 2 accessories vignette. Before you know it, your collection will grow. Just let your imagination lead you.

Dana I love your Dickens Christmas Carol village. There are no flaws in your presentation. Great lighting, and nothing out of place. Everything is clear and stands out showing all of your details that make it seem like magic on the big screen. TFS and I "Liked" it. I hope you see my village next month when it is finished. This subscriber was not disappointed.

Thank you for your kind words. As you can see, I enjoyed doing these displays immensely. I will be working on Harry Potter display next and hopefully a smaller general Dickens display. Happy Holiday!!!

its beautiful. I wish you would have filmed each scene a little slower and less movement, as its so much to take in. But its great. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Video taping is not one of my fortes. I need to learn how to do it better.

No other words than...breathless! ...may I ask you where did you find the pavement of the street? I'd like for my village as well but can't find so realistic one...did you print it on your own?

Thank you for your wonderful comment. I actually caved out of styrofoam and painted them myself. Labor of love...

What platforms did you use? I would love to see some of you do a video of how to. like where did you hide all the lights for the streetlights? Don't they come and battery packs? You should do a video of you putting it together next year.

Frank Garofalo I made styrofoam bases for all my displays. I cut out holes underneath each house to run the cords underneath.

This is just stunning! What year are your villages? Love how you staggered them. I have an older little collection from the 90s and I've been wanting to expand it and don't know where to start

Frank Garofalo Thank you. These houses are from 2000 - current. I started collecting in 2007 and love all the pieces that came out in 2000’s. Just buy the pieces that ‘speak’ to you. These are just 1/4 of my total Dickens collection. I usually do a Christmas Carol and a general Dickens display yearly. But this year I have got into other dept 56 collections and ran out of energy at the end.

Your villages are a great inspiration, thanks for sharing these videos. I love the specific street lanterns that are in front of the Timbers Hotel, one is visible at bottom of screen at 1:23, can you tell me where you found those? Love watching your new setup each year!

I’m so sorry I’m just seeing your comment now.
Those lights are still available at any department 56 retailers. They are called ‘Small Town Street Lights’

And thank you so much for watching my videos. I skipped dickens village last year to set up Christmas in the City. But I’m bringing all my Dickens pieces out this year again.

Dear Dana, You have been a tremendous inspiration, and I've watched your Village videos over and over. You are a master! Your video presentations are so calm and steady, I have to ask: is there a special program/app you are using? I cannot wait for your 2020 display--I hope you have the ability this year to do one. Thanks for helping me out with this little question!

Thank you David. I actually just use the iMovie apps on my iPhone. Very simple, you just load your pics and video clips and it will arrange everything for you.
For this year, I’m actually going to focus on Christmas in the City, North Pole and Harry Potter. I might at the end do a small Dickens Twelfth Night display if I still have the energy. I will of course upload any video I’ll make. Thank you for your kind comment.

Dana, I am so excited to try getting the beginnings of my first Village display, and the progression, in as fine a video documentation as you make. I am creating A Christmas Carol scene which focuses on the first chapter. I’m doing a Financial District focus, with all the banks and counting houses and such around a clock tower plaza. (Here is where Ebenezer is mean to everybody.) Then, I’ll add separate displays for the rest of the book over time. Planning on about nine or ten vignettes by the end.
To learn you are going in new directions is fantastic. I am amazed by all the possibilities! The three you have chosen? Love! I can’t wait to see your efforts! I’m a huge admirer. Thanks for your helpful reply. Best of luck!

David Urban thank you very much. Your plan for your first village display is amazing. My first department 56 love is Dickens Village. I used to do a big Dickens display and a smaller Christmas Carol display. I haven’t done the big Dickens display since I started collecting other lines. I was able to do this Christmas Carol display last year in addition to 5 other displays from other department 56 collections. I was exhausted at the end. So I decided to focus on CIC, NP and HP this year. Please share your display when it’s done. I would love to see it. Have fun with the process.

Dana--I am so impressed! Just watched the movie "Enola Holmes," and its Victorian London setting was very beautiful. I've always loved the world of Dickens, but being in Southern California it seemed disingenuous somehow. Now I don't care! I'm going for the full fantasy. I love how you've gone for yours, in many facets, so majestically.
