    Just my personal experience, but the only way to stop drinking is by finding a good, compelling reason to do so. Mine was the atrocious state of my blood readings, and my deteriorating body. Once I decided to think of alcohol as a toxin, I was able to just stop. Why I would I choose to pour poison down my throat? Without that compelling reason to stop, no amount of 'will-power' would have seen me through. By the way, I'm 73 y.o. and stopped completely over five years ago.

    Just starting my seventh week sober. Have been fine up to now, it's been easy but suddenly having horrible anxiety and feel desperate for a drink I'll get through it but I'm just posting this to show there's no "normal" when you quit alcohol, everyone has an individual experience.

      Just did 2 months sober it seemed to be easier in the first 2 weeks but the second month off the booze cant say it was really easy as a lot of things came up that never came up before and i nhad to deal with them without the booze , took a drink at the end of the two months to stop the internal battle between trying to not drink. and wanting to drink the drink won that day but i guess slip ups happen i dont nbeleive in going back to the day one mindset as ive already covered 2 months already so i'll build up from there .were all different and all on different Paths

      Relapse sucks. Just know it’s how you get back up! Your quality of life is worth it. No one can truly promise they’ll never, ever, ever drink again. One day at a time, and keep yourself around fellowships with the same agenda of sobriety. Keep a support system, and continue to be compassionate with yourself and LOVE yourself. Talk to your Higher Power, your Divine Creator (God) can help…your heart will be read and will show you want to stop, and you’ll be helped.

    I'm really looking forward to this evening because it will be my 2nd night not drinking wine. I feel great today after my first night off wine.
    I got Allen Carr's book last December and got the insights from it but didn't finish reading it, knowing that to reach the end would set up an obligation to stop drinking. But the insights in the book changed my mind nevertheless.

      Not really. Seek counseling if it continues past the 1st three days to a couple of weeks - and get off your keister and walk at least SOME, every day. You should be feeling better and better about yourself and the world, as well as your sense of control in it, but you'll still have ups and downs. You just have to do one thing when the low points come around: don't drink. Just try it. Waking up feeling good instead of hungover, and having energy all day is really going to grow on you!

    I enjoyed the video. I relate to most of what you said. The one exception; I don't have a problem with the label alcoholic. To me if you can't, or don't want to drink in moderation, you are an alcoholic.

  • @Nat.Dialogue

    I know it's tricky to quit but I also feel I spent years and thousands making a rod for my own back and did nothing about it until it was so obviously the only intelligent option left prior to outright killing myself and any future , brick by ugly brick

  • @Nat.Dialogue
    @Nat.Dialogue 3 роки тому +10

    I have not mentioned alcohol on social media. This is partly because others have and I thought 'so what' . If anyone gets dismissive because of my abstention then they can't be classed as friends and never truely were . Anyone knowing I've quit has been told I'm taking a year off.. this somehow diffuses any misconception about the decision. Most drinkers wish they could cope with a year off, they just can't imagine it. This works really well as it is interpreted as a temporary and even commendable idea. I can avoid the 'life changing' conversations attached with these ultimate questions and meanwhile everyone but me loses track of time and gets used to me driving looking & behaving a bit sharper that before. It certainly feels sharper never again queuing up for rounds at £25+ a pop

    The longer i go without drink the less and less I'm motivated to mention it or make any big deal about it, certainly under my real identity. I'm happier under the radar with the wider world perceiving my insignificant lifestyle choices an extension on a calorie controlled diet or the most iron clad technique to give up tobacco and # .. which it is and I have . This is how my friends and family gets the news.. it isn't really news. I'm not sure if I want any congratulations for somehow shutting down decades of habitual destructive behaviour when most of my brothers and sisters were nowhere near as weak and wilfully ignorant as I have always been

    Would have been nice if you normalized the audio levels. Your guest's voice is way quieter and it's annoying to have to adjust the volume constantly while listening.
