- When our concert performances of Strauss’ 'Also Sprach Zarathustra' were cancelled as the coronavirus pandemic intensified, players from the Orchestra of Opera North decided that the show must go on - virtually.
Here is the first few minutes (most famously used in '2001: A Space Odyssey') played by musicians from 40 different homes under the UK lockdown, conducted from Sweden by Tobias Ringborg.

Tobias was conduction from Allhelgona (All Saints) church in Stockholm where pianist Bengt Forsberg was playing a piano version. The musicians, in their homes in England, saw Tobias and heard Bengt’s piano playing, which provided synchronization to the musicians. Pretty amazing!
And the cymbal players kids in bow ties too - awwwwww
Yes and waiting for the moment to cover their ears :-) too cute !
everyone remembers that SCIENTISTS gave us hope, MEDICAL WORKERS treated us, ARTISTS gave us comfort and the MINIMUM WAGE WORKER made sure we had food.
@Stevie: somehow we have to get your comment on a t-shirt!
Great idea!! I'll do the translation into Spanish and see that it's done, somehow...soon I hope!!
@Q Anon Q Anon : Don't be yet another tool, another low-info clown of the cult.
Surely you do recognize that criminal idiot djt (with his equally corrupt handlers/enablers) is responsible for the mounting number of tens of thousands of American deaths through months, MONTHS! of his denial, delay, distraction, confusion, deflection, division and deception concerning the approaching Covid-19 storm.
His foul and monstrous ego, desperate narcissism, fathomless greed and fearful addiction for adulation and authoritarian arrogance, not to mention his sheer stupidity, has managed to tear gaping holes into the already weakened fabric of this nation's health care, response and preparedness systems, among the many other social norms and institutional safeguards designed to protect and improve society and our environment.
He has surely not risen to this desperate Covid occasion, to the demands of his job. Sadly, he routinely shrinks from any responsibility . . . cowering, deluded and so afraid of the shame that his abject ignorance and deadly incompetence has now clearly become his repugnant lasting legacy.
Bravos, todos eles!! ✊🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️
@@emersongeorge4560Thank you for your words ! Here, in Brazil, people dying everyday for this ignorance and negationism! A new form of nazism in the 21th century! Cruel and sad. #ForaBolsonaro!! ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾😷
#BolsonaroGenocida!! 🤮🤮🤮
#VacinaParaTodos!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😷
This is what the world needs now, more music, more laughter. This online content reminds us that no matter how bad things are, we are still capable of this beauty.
This was magnificent may shared music lift oir souls. To all: stay safe til the time we can safely play. And listen. As ome
Man playing cymbals: "I love playing the cymbals", CLASH
Man's children: Covering ears "We seriously need to get you another hobby"
I was like “wow it’s so amazing that they all dressed up for this even tho they’re only at home, it’s shows how genuinely passionate they are-“ and then there’s this guy 1:16
Wonderful! I love the reaction of the cymbal player's child at 1.20 - and the cheeky grin from David Greed at 2.40...!
And the fact that the baby doesn't even react ... just watches in wonderment: that's Dad. this is how that sounds.
Well done, magical and moving, a tear in the eye.
I love the guy with the triangle doing spinning
Bravo, Teachers. It is historical, significant. Deeply human.
This is wonderful! 👏 🎼 Beautifully played and amazing mixing and editing!
And haha, the masked 🐺 bassoonist!
I liked that Rat))
Was that one guy playing a FOX bassoon?
John Auch Lol. Love it. I have an ancient Model II that still gets the job done.
I thought it was a Fox playing a Bassoon.
Oh we desperately need a name for this new way of presenting music. It’s a new art form that has come out of the terrible situation we’re all in right now. I can’t go to concerts anymore because I have an undiagnosed medical condition that causes continual pain. I would love to experience music in this way after the pandemic has ended.
I ask musicians to please go on making these wonderful, beautiful videos.
Actually, virtual choirs and orchestras have been popping up all over for the last year, or so. I've watched at least two choirs, and that was back last summer, as well as one band/orchestra last fall. Pretty neat idea, certainly.
And you have my deepest empathy, sir; I fell at work six years ago and destroyed my right shoulder, which is inoperable, and now have constant pain from the shoulder through the fingertips--and of course, it was my right shoulder/dominant side.
My point is, though, that I certainly understand what it means to be able to "attend" concerts, etc., via the online method. It is priceless!
Something good has to come out of this awfull situation 💞
how about just simply FANTASTIC.......works for me
Beautiful. Thank you for lifting all our spirits in these times.
All of them were wearing formalwear. The dedication tho
Amazing, thank you so much for doing something so wonderful in these difficult times.
Love the cymbal clash moment!
More interesting than a live orchestra, as one could more expressively play the violin standing. Due respect given as all are in their formal wear. And what a human touch there at 1.22! The most unforgettable scene! Of course the conductor's passion! Bravo ! 👍👍👍👍👍😍❤️✨
Yes, but look at the left of the screen starting at the 1:00 mark, with him and his kids.
Brilliant - well done. Really put a smile on my face.
If I have a god in this world, it's human beings coming together to achieve something wonderful. Where, I dunno... each person's contribution isn't for that person's own sake but every single one of them has its right part in the whole. I'm rambling in awe-filled delight. Thank you.
Great, bloody fantastic. Who say's you can't have wonderful music by talented artists while this pandemic lay's ones spirit down. Found this by accident while flicking through the web out of boredom, whoever thought it up WELL DONE.
A wonderful way to present a beautiful piece of music. I hope your efforts bring more People through the doors once they reopen. Thank you.
Absolutely wonderful to see so many of my oldest musical pals playing this so beautifully despite everything! Thanks to all of you
I wonder if these online orchestral performances will continue once things go back to normal🤔
I sincerely hope so!
There is no normal. The future will be what we make it! And God bless these brilliant, beautiful artists for sharing their skill and passion. Still, I love live music of virtually any sort in part because of the spiritual energy it inspires.
Will miss you at Ryedale Festival this year. Always one of my favourite concerts. Here's looking forward to 2021. Myra
Absolutely amzing and very welcome in these trying times. Bravo Opera North!
I would like to say: thanks for everyone who participated of this moment of grace and humanity ❤️
Magnificent! Thank you!
This is amazing well done! Was there some kind of click track that people were listening to as well as the video of Tobias conducting?
Hello! Yes - it was a bespoke click track that was created, taken from the conductor's beat.
Amazing work! The show must go on =D
Looking forward to seeing you back on stage
génial lol mdr XD : 0:42 ; 1:22 ; 1:25 (X2) ; 1:48 ; 2:04 ; 2:32 ; 2:45
So amazing and incredibly beautiful!! Bravo!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is the reflection of the human spirit the excel beyond what is once thought was only possible in gatherings!! Amazing to see how life can survive even in isolation and bring the best in humanity!!!
Love the wolf!
That scared the ever loving bajeezus out of me
I was beginning to think I was the only one who noticed. Playing the Wolf's instrument! I coked laughing!
I'm not sure if all of his colleges were aware (and agreeing) of his particular "clothes" for this presentation ahahha
Such joy to listen and to watch!
Oh, My, Goodness, This is great, I love the cymbal player with the 2 kids in their living room(?) at 1:02, left side, second up. He is just getting there. Wonderful, just marvelous!
Absolutely Joyous and great fun to watch. Thanks All for the effort- well worth it.

my bolero on the channel against the virus ! Solidarity !
💖 Thank You!!! You are still encouraging me as I live like 2020 for the benefit of myself but even better, for my 100 congregate living residents protection. 👏
Beautiful - thank you - apart from the beautiful music it was lovely to see the conductor and musicians all dressed up as if on a stage. I guess they were on a stage - the UA-cam World Stage. Thank you again from someone who has been in their sixth lockdown and this one has been going since 5 August .... but who's counting??!! Greetings from Victoria Australia the lockdown capital of the world - well we had to get fame somehow!

Amazing rendition.I will definitely be going to see this talented group of musicians play live when the opportunity arises!!Thank you for a really heart rendering performance of this music. The cymbal player and his children brought a huge belly laugh reaction which doesn’t normally happen in a performance like this.👍⚡️🌟
I remembered a remixed techno version that incorporated dialogues from the film like - I think we should stop..
Abrazos.
Wow!! Absolutely fabulous!!!
Epic play! You make me cry for good reason 😢😭 Thank you for your awesome play, It was soooo cool!!!
En fait , je n'aime pas trop la musique de chambre ????
Je suis allée voir le film de Stanley Kubrick à sa SORTIE AU CINEMÂ .
Orange
Mécanique ? Mais c'est un film visionn'AIRE ?
Let us not forget the Technology that allows this to happen, I for one fully 100% Beleive that the internet is our collective consciousness on training wheels, where do we go from here, think of it, in time we will be able to do things like this telepathically without the internet, that's maybe for the future, in the meantime this is amazing and a great reminder that we are all one and together we are unstoppable,
Perhaps I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one... there is no limit other than those we put on ourselves
Here we have a fellow on an indoor exercise bike in charge of the triangle, and a fellow crashing the cymbols beside his children - what a shock it was for them - so loud and close. Then we have is it an oboe being played by a cats head I think. lol Really fun. Well done
Thank you so much to bring the light in our homes and allow us to travel through the space out of the time.
did the conductor imagine and perform it and then they sent that video to everyone else to get the timing right?
Yes, , i would like to know that too hiw it was done.
Wonderful. Wonderful. Wonderful. Thank you Very much
Now who says that these melodys and composures arent as good as the classics. Wonderful!
Powerful, Electric, Mesmerizing
Thanks! Excellent collaboration. We all needed this.
Also noticed that Maestro Ringborn bears a strong resemblance to a young Terry Gilliam.
You are all simply splendid. Debi LA/Dallas
This would have been impossible 15 years ago.
wow nice
This is an amazing piece of togetherness yet apart during the pandemic
Very very very good.
Where did they get the 120 fps 4K webcams?
Amazing!
Does anybody knows what app or software was used to layer the different parts?
Bravo. Who edited it? They need a little applause too.
I thought this was by Strauss not Kubrick.
A good piece to open with whenever we can get back to live concerts
C'est formidable! Merci à tous!
I think the "parts of the orchestra" makes this better not worse
How beautiful. Thank you.
Bonza! Why does the Bassoonist have a fox mask
This shit needs more fucking attent
lol thanks using this for my band class
For once, the tympanist is King.
Excellent nice delivery 👏 👌 👍 😀 🙌
Very nice. Thank you to all.
I didn't realise there were so many violins
The bassoon player scares the crap out of me.
Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
What is the software that is used to put this together?
Great brought a smile to my face
i don't think I need words to describe this.
Do one for The Shining.
This is the theme from the movie 2001!
Are yo all in Zooming!?! Amazing !
Wonderfully powerful emotions, tears in my eyes. Just one thing, it was written by richard strauss, much later used by stanley kubrick. Thanks for the awesome incredible beauty.
Hello! Very glad you enjoyed. Yes, it says it is Strauss 'Also Sprach Zarathustra' in the description box - we just chose to use 'Kubrick' in the video title as that is how many people are familiar with this extract 😊
A bit like that Mozart piano concerto being referred to as ‘Elvira Magdigan’ because the slow movement was used in a now-forgotten film of that name. Most people in the UK over 55 remember the opening of Strauss’s tone poem as the music which accompanied the moon landings in 1969.
Thank you. Long Live The Queen.
Brilliant! Very well done!
