Thanks for joining me for this video! I definitely should've explored the price situation more and discussed why it's so expensive. I also omitted the fact that the Fjorden case fits Moment's M-series drop-in lens mounts. Will do better next time 👍 RIP my moustache.
@@kwesimodo Hmmm... in that case I have more questions: how do I choose a priority mode over full manual? Why did it launch into aperture priority when it never did before? Where in the UI was this contextualised? I can't find aperture priority mentioned in any settings so how does it work?
Great video! Thank you for your in-depth review. As the lead developer of ProCamera, I am certainly biased. However, I would like to share that I recently went on my first extended photo trip with the Fjorden Grip (along with ProCamera, of course) and I loved it. It is non-essential most of the time, but it adds so much convenience that it will be in my gear bag for future photo trips. You can even immerse yourself more in "photography mode" by using the grip and wrist strap. I found that it is actually the most convenient way to capture photos with one hand, especially in the "portrait upside-down orientation" (when you hold your iPhone upside-down). As for the wrist strap, I would say it's verging on essential for serious iPhone photography. I hold my phone in precarious positions to get the best angles, and thanks to the wrist strap, I could go even further knowing my iPhone is safe - even if I drop it. I came back from my photo trip with quite a list of ideas for an even better experience with the Fjorden Grip in ProCamera. But I would be curious to hear feature requests from other users of the Fjorden Grip …
thanks for this….biased or not, it felt truly sincere to me ✅ and my end goal is getting as close to my beloved rollei 35s that’s been with me over 25 years 😅…. nothing is harder than wondering if your wasting 💰 on modern gadgets to replace true fundamental life changing mechanical tools…but somehow your comment open windows in a dusty room and offered some fresh air 💪😍👍
Nice review... I already have the device and love it. it's worth mentioning that the case is compatible with Moment lenses too. I too have had some inconsistancies with the app, but it is still in early stages of development. I use it solely with ProCamera.
Fantastic video as always mate! This is probably answered somewhere in the thread so apologies if so but… I was just about to purchase the Shiftcam pro grip when I saw this video and almost prefer this due to its size but wondered which you would personally recommend (seem to recall you doing a vid on the pro grip)? Thanks in advance and keep up the great work
I was just thinking when will someone make a Bluetooth device with SLR type controls! Not understanding the Magsafe functionality. Pro is Magsafe, however its position on the phone is just overlapping 1/4 of the iPhone magnet ring. I find it hard to believe that that is enough magnetic grip not to come off in use, especially in kickstand mode. I can see Plus with the case could add more gripping power. Basic's adhesive plate confuses me more, They say Basic is NOT Magsafe, but then how dose the Fjorden stick to the plate, sure the plate is adhesive to what ever you want, but how does the Fjorden stick to the plate? BTW big discounts NOW, Yes I will buy one, thanks for turning me on to this.
I’m ordering this very soon. As an Obscura user, I’m curious as how that app integrates with the Fjorden Grip. I use the portrait option frequently and need spot on focus compatibility.
Great video. Could you could do a follow-up video and expand on the inconsistencies with the app? Was this an isolated case? If you had to do it again would you purchase the Fjorden grip?
The app was free. I have an iPhone 16 arriving tomorrow so was looking through camera apps and this one is now only free with the grip as Leica have bought the company.
Hey David, just discovered your channel a day ago or so. I’m really interested in the Fjorden bundle but then I noticed that ShiftCam (which you also did a review of) has another great bundle on Amazon. In your opinion, which grip did you prefer?
@@David_Addison Thank you for your clear and informative reviews on these two iPhone grips. You have said above that you prefer the ShiftCam. I am a keen amateur photographer who has gradually drifted from several DSLRs over the years to iPhone, probably due to its convenience and great image quality, and am tossing up between these two grips. Price differential (in this case moving from DSLR equipment) is not the most important factor for me. With your background knowledge and experience, I am interested to know what was be the primary reason for your leaning to ShiftCam? I would be pleased to hear your thoughts. Many thanks David Hassell South Australia
I have arthritis in my hands. My Nikon has become too heavy to hold and control so I’m wondering if I can afford to treat myself to the Fjorden grip on my iPhone pro 13 max. If it’s possible, if you are fit, to hold and control the iPhone with one hand then I suspect that I will be able to cope. Thankfully most of the time my right hand still works reasonably well and if the finger movement is simple and light the grip might be the answer to my problem. If I take the plunge I will update my experience.
Great review, thanks! I've been waiting for the 15 Pro Max to pull the trigger on this to take the place of a pocketable travel Zoom. I was hoping for more optical zoom, but by adding a moment tele, you can get out a little further. Is it possible to set the grip up to wake the phone in camera mode? That would be slick.
Hello David, can you elaborate some on the moment app and the Fjorden grip? From your video it seem to be a better option than procam since one does not have extra charges for bracketing for example. How is its integration with the grip vs procam?
David. Useful video, thanks. I'm using the app but can't see any aperture control ... am I missing something? I'd usually set my aperture and then vary my ISO and speed to suit ... can you do this, do you know?
what you are totally forgetting is that it is ONLY for right handed shooters. I can't and never have. That is a problem with the iPhone as well, I hold the phone with my left hand and then use my pointer finger on my right hand to press the release button (either on screen or volume up). You see where this gets pretty complicated with the grip.
All DSLRs and cameras in general are right handed oriented. I'm left handed, I have no issue with this since i've had to use camera's this way from the beginning.
question from a pro: does it has 6x6 black and white option ( best ever app was name6x6 discontinued and unloadable on iphone 14 … so deep professional problem for me ) 2) what is the delay for taking the photo when you press the shutter( should be immédiat or no go for me). most photo iphone 14 app are useless du to 1/8 s delay
But the main problem remains: iPhone photos are a digitally oversharpened pseudo HDR mess that only look good on the small screen (if you Are not zooming in). If You are really into photography buy a last generation iPhone (not pro) and a last generation APS-C mirrorless camera with Sigma 18-50.
I have a full frame canon and can confirm that the quality of the iPhone 15 pro images are excellent, not as good zoomed in but not far off……And that’s not even using the 48mp resolution.
iPhone takes great photos. You can use HEIF or raw. Big limitation is zoom. Let’s see what the 16 brings. Night photography is far easier to get right with an iPhone max pro than a pro camera. What I’d like more than anything is a great snap on telephoto. I’m a wildlife photographer with my good gear and just want to capture the shot.
@@Wordsalad69420 Apple used to have a really useful camera case - this in my opinion comes closest to it. Excellent review David. Thanks Marc Jacobs for the comment on the lens, I think that’s important consideration. I am new to iPhone photography and debating on a beast cage. But it’s to bulky to carry around. This is a nice alternative. Too expensive for my budget. Cheers Vancouver Island Canada 🇨🇦
You just reminded me I cut out the 'accessory box of doom' narrative 😂 yeah, unfortunately it's an accessory box of doom situation. I lean towards the Pro Grip as there's no case required and it 'embraces' it's position as a grip more if that makes sense.
I was looking at this last week. I fit your use case - a Sony Mirrorless full frame body user ditching wide/normal focal lenses for iPhone photography in the 13-70mm range. Not sure it’s worth £200 though - will see how it goes over next few months using the standard phone and software.
Future Dave outtakes - moustache? Great video, price wise… hmm it’s the limitations of the grip with only a few apps, I currently use a polar pro grip and case - it’s a simple Bluetooth shutter button. But I guess with all of these things it’s about having it with you when you take the shot.
I would not go that far, however it’s not a DSLR replacement. DSLR or Mirrorless are more than a more or less expensive Body. You have lots of Lenses to choose from and no app can compensate that. I use both but would not spend that much on a grip. Otherwise good video.

Yes, that's true. I forgot to mention it. You can see the Moment lens insert in the thumbnail.
Which Moment lens mount does the Fjorden support? T-mount or M-mount? Are you able to half-press and feel the bite on the bluetooth shutter?
Just ordered myself one for my summer holiday around Europe. Looking forward to trying it out.
I went with Freewell Sherpa love the simplicity of the system where I can magnetically attach filters.
I've ordered one and looking forward to trying this out. Great review thanks.
You didn’t want to wait for the 16? I’d like to be sure they’ll work together. No doubt Apple changed some things with the 16 besides more telephoto.
How is it mate?

5:14 I believe the shutter speed is changing because of limitations to the iOS camera API.

Hi 11 months on... any views on battery consumption if say one is out shooting street for 3-4 hours?
Am I correct in understanding that it will not work well with the iPhone standard camera app?
Do you prefer this or Shiftcam from your other review?

When’s the next video coming out , it’s been 2 months since you last up loaded any videos
That's a thoughtful review, more than just tech speak.
Can the grip be used with the iPhone native camera app?
So does this work with other iPhones? Since it’s something you attach to the phone and all you need is the app?
so it still uses iPhone sensor ?
Thanks for the review David. I’ve been looking at this for a while now

I am contemplating this device as I find myself using my iPhone more than my Ricoh GR iii
they remove the flash and magic disapear
Why is it still on Pre order for like 4 years?
Looks like the camera interface is slightly different and it appears you are in Auto mode. I think the behavior would be expected.
I wish there is a tripod for it too but still really good design

I don't own this, but i don't think the zoom or any of the other functions would work. Maybe only the shutter button.

Keen to see how you get on. Check back in in a few months!
Actually interested in if you ended up picking this up as I'm in the market for something like this.

Shaving my moustache was bad decision 😞
Will this work with any MagSafe case?
No, there are holes in Fjorden's case that you also attach it with. Sorry, forgot to mention.
Thanks for the review David!
Thanks for watching Dwight!
But do they make it for left handed people?
Honestly, I never consider these things. Good point.
Thanks!
Already a lot of complaints about the poor service of Fjorden. I am hesitating.
