Escape from Innsmouth is impossible to win. I tried it many times. Don't know why it's so hard. The Hidden Depths is more fun with less investigators. The traitor does not apply. I played it with two players and two investigators and it was fun! One of the survivors (or more) is actually a traitor, which you can opt to leave behind in the end. So maybe give it a try without too many players.
@@InspirationalMonkeyMorgan I am not sure 100%. After the fifth attempt I clicked all the way through the end, and I think I was about 3/5 of the way. So a little past half-way. The monsters are just overwhelming and the tasks are all over the board, so I waste so much time walking back and forth. But I don't know how else to do it.
What Paicey said is probably the best way to go if none of the themes really jump out to you. If you count the DLC scenarios though, those might be a good pick up first cause they are cheaper and only require the base. Plus don't need to drive out or wait for the games to be delivered in the mail!
We played the two player variant where you do not deal out the Deep One traitor cards. However this just becomes find the few clues that point to the evil NPC, which makes this a weaker version of the Murder on the Stargazer Majestic. From testing it seems you can just have everyone answer no the app asks in the beginning if you have the Deep One secret role. But the game still acts as if there are traitors, so it seems the app wasn't programmed for a large fully CO-OP group.
@@RollforCrit Totally agree a game designed for coop but tacted a rough traitor mechnic, resulting with humans vs solo, not fun for the grp. Maybe build it into insanity mechnic, eg, go insane and discover hidden memories of being a deep one and have own win cond.
I still need to play your top 2. Looking forward to it. I still disagree with the Innsmouth scenario. We love the original story and it is really well implemented. Even if it has a kind of Time Stories mechanic we loved it.

So if you're playing solo with just two investigators, you will not need to worry about the traitor player, just the traitor NPC. But then its just becomes poorer version of the Murder on the Stargazer Majestic.

Escape From Innsmouth is absolutely difficult as fuck.
