I didn’t find this very informative, a bit all over the place imo. Would have been great to see a comparison of more usual categories: value for money, replayability, game length, set up and tear down time, table space, character levelling up, how puzzly/analytical the game is, whether games are good at different player counts, and so on
What about actual Arkham Horror the boardgame? Out of the three I have MoM 2 and really want Eldritch Horror. My problem is I want it all, all at once and that's just not affordable with all the expansions. I also have Arkham Horror the boardgame which is just as good as Eldritch Horror IMO. How about a Retro Review of Arkham Horror the boardgame?
I just got the Arkham LCG starter box as a present ^__^ Of course I will play it as is and I already played a practice game and it was really tense! But I'm curious did the expansion turn out well?
I played Mansions of Madness over the winter break and I got so mad at it for being so good. I'm already all in on Eldritch and Arkham Horror LCG, I really didn't want to give Fantasy Flight all my money. I like other themes of games too! However, the more I thought about it, the more I thought that while Mansions of Madness and AHLCG scratch different itches, those itches are pretty much right next to each other. I can either explore a house or a town. Not going lie though, I have a 100+ gift card money sitting in my Amazon account, if Mansions of Madness is priced at it's actual price before Dreamlands shows up on Amazon I'll probably get it. I prefer the standees in Eldritch Horror the most. (That wasn't Roland, he hasn't been released yet in Eldritch, but that is the standee I use for him in AHLCG). As a person who doesn't have the time nor money for the painting aspect of the hobby, I detest miniatures. (Detest is a bit strong, they're fine). I would much prefer standees for everything, including monsters. They would always look better than anything I could do and would probably make the game cheaper.
I can`t decide between MoM 2.0 and Imperial Assault. The first one seems to be more interesting and unique (especialy for me - I started reading Lovecraft and adore his stories). But I will probably find opponents for IA easier among my friends and family, and I do like SW myself.. Eldritch Horror I will get either way sooner or later!
Could you *please* explain the gameplay? This might come as a surprise to you, but people who watch game review videos often don't know the game yet - that' might actually be the reason they're watching. So, if you spend most of the time rambling about how the board and cards and miniatures contribute to that gameplay, how much your wife loves it and which one you like most, only mentioning bits and pieces of the gameplay hete and there, they won't know what the heck you are talking about. It feels like a book club discussion of a book you forgot to read.
Zogg from Betelgeuse lolol! I love that description. This is an older video and in my comparison videos I do try to do a better job of showing that. Yeah sorry I went in to this one assuming people knew more than I realized they do about these games. Which is a weirdly crazy oversight but I try to do better now. Thanks again.
To be fair on price points, if you get into Arkham Horror LCG you will eventually want to buy a second core set if you want to play with multiple decks. A single core set does not have enough of certain cards to cover multiple player decks.
I plan on getting MOM2e and Arkham Horror LCG. But... I own Arkham Horror and Dunwich Horror Board Game(2005) and Eldritch Horror looks amazing. These things are pricey... I wonder if it is a waste to get Eldritch Horror and still keep Arkham Horror Board game. I wonder if I could sell it for cheap??
very nice video! :^) i only have Eldritch Horror of these 3 but your review on it definitly nailed it; the flavor, the storytelling on each card, the difficulty level are just outstanding. and now iam thinking about of getting the other 2 hehe ;^) but let me ask; is Mansion of Madness more like a betrayal at house on the hill or does it just look familiar?
Wurschtbieb it's only familiar in setting and look. It plays drastically different. Imagine condensing the story of an EH session into mansion sized. Someone is trying to someone Yog Sothoth or a dark one etc.
Nice review! All great games and I kinda feel the same (crazy!) when trying to choose between them. The only thing that bothered me is there's nothing at all about Elder Sign. I know, it's a TRIPLE threat but, c'mon... ES is a big part of the AH Files and deserved at least a mention there. PS - Yeah, Elder Sign is my TOP1 from the Arkham Horror Files' games ;)
Honestly, I don't like that game. And these three are all easily in my top 5 games of all time. I love all things Lovecraft. But I found Elder Sign to be only frustrating. I guess a lot of people feel that way about Eldritch Horror.
Love your opening and fresh touch in general. I'm also a fan of most of FFG:s thematic Cthulhu Mythos board games, but you've got to get the focus, exposure and sound problems straightened out, otherwise most viewers won't watch the whole video. I battled with the static sparks or some other interference from your microphone that started in the scene where you lie down. Made it really cumbersome to listen.
Studio Motljus yeah that part was quite irritating in post production. Tried to get it out but once I moved my mic it stopped some thankfully. Thanks for the advice though!
I actually want to have a game night at this guys house, he's hilarious. He should do a comedy sketch as jigsaw trying to decide which is his favourite game from the saw movies.
The one thing i do not like about these boards games is that you need to keep buying the expansions and dlcs. Cause the scenario is a one shot experience and the base game is not replayable
I really want to like MofM, but those minuatures... Compared to Imperial Assault are just horrid. Stands are big and clumsy, low detail and poses are stiff in comparison and no amount of paint will change that... Makes me just sad knowing that FF can make better miniatures.
Yep, those bases are awful so I chucked them. The fact the monsters slot into them means it is very easy to rebase the minis so I've brought a bunch of transparent bases of differing sizes from here www.litko.net/products/Clear-Miniature-Bases,-Circular-25mm.html#.WHqhbbZ97aY. They look great now plus I have much more space in the base game box for future expansions. You're right about the mini quality and poses, they're just not up to par with FFGs other stuff. I suspect it is because they wanted to keep the same minis from the first edition as a) a cost saving measure (if you chuck in the first edition 'catch up' packs there are a A LOT of minis for them to resculpt) and b) a concession to owners of the first edition. Still, I've painted them up and while they aren't as good as my Descent/Blood Rage/Space Hulk etc stuff, they look good enough.
The Latest Retro Board Game Show You have to play it. It would be interesting to see how the classic feels to you After the newer reincarnations of Lovecraftian horror. In my opinion Eldritch is not that creepy. Arkham Stands more in comparison with Mansions of madness 2.
Yeah but you could just build strong decks, and then purchase scenario packs, yes? Or would you not have the tools needed? I love this game, but man I've been spending so much on games.
It's like choosing between Warhammer Fantasy Role Play 1st edition and any edition of D&D. With first you have one book, GM's chapter and bestiary. With latter you need to buy three books. Talking about money leeches. I took a look at Legends of the five rings 5th edition beta playtest material. Firts 4 editions used d10 for rolls. But Fantasy Flight Games change that to 6 sided and 12 sided dice with pictures on them. "Hey! Want to play our editionn of L5R? Buy player's handbook, GM's manual, bestiary and at least 2 sets of our custom dice to make it comfortable for you to make any rolls you can dream off." FFG have great products, but many of them are just made with one goal. To reach for your wallet. 3rd edition of Warhammer RPG -FFG edition - was a card game. Rather than have a character sheet where you will write done any important info about your character they made cards for it. "You have a sword? You need asword card. You become troll slayer? Take a troll slayer career card." And so one and so fort. And their own custom dice for it. Just like for current Star Wars. Want to play smuggler? Buy Edge of the empire core book. Jedi? Another book. Rebel? Yet another core rule book. I will stick to Arkham/Eldritch Horror board games. I wonder how much money they make on some of their produckt? Many of them are great but what they do with rpgs is just beyond imagination.
He was ruining those knives in the intro, you don't do that with two knifes, but with a knife to a sharpening steel, and you don't randomly put the very edge of the blade onto it, but rather put the side of the edge to it in order to remove the minor imperfections that affect its sharpness.
I didn’t find this very informative, a bit all over the place imo. Would have been great to see a comparison of more usual categories: value for money, replayability, game length, set up and tear down time, table space, character levelling up, how puzzly/analytical the game is, whether games are good at different player counts, and so on
Eldritch Horror has the most replay value for the core sets!
Yeah because you'll lose 4 out of 5 times.

Elder Sign?
Now that it's the future, and these have expanded, which one do you prefer?
It's now Mansions for sure by about 20%
I have mansions and eldritch.... probably going to get the lcg soon though...
Steve Boeckmann it's such a great game
What about actual Arkham Horror the boardgame? Out of the three I have MoM 2 and really want Eldritch Horror. There are plenty of expansions for AHCG, all great. Pick up a deluxe expansion, you can't go wrong with any of them.
@@leadbones Ok! ^_^

Patrick Goggles lolol! I was like trench coat and hat, close enough. I really do like the standees too though. Very easy to use and nice looking.
great job man.I ordered 3 of them at the same time and I am gonna play them back to back.thank you for your great review
Siavash Samimifard thanks for watching!
5 bagillion dollars later.
A must for Ameritrash and Cthulhu fans (like myself).
I can`t decide between MoM 2.0 and Imperial Assault.

Dmitry Apatin you are absolutely right. So far the one plus of MoM over IA is that the stories can be played solo. But IA is totally two games in one.
Could you *please* explain the gameplay?
This might come as a surprise to you, but people who watch game review videos often don't know the game yet - that' might actually be the reason they're watching. bryan drake makes the best reviews
Spot on review. I love the Arkham Horror LCG. Now I need to go buy Mansions of Madness!
Like and own all three although the Arkham Horror board game is still my favorite. Nice video.
John Dietrich Good choice. ;)
I'm currently trying to finish buying the extra materials for it. The big boxes have doubled in price.
To be fair on price points, if you get into Arkham Horror LCG you will eventually want to buy a second core set if you want to play with multiple decks. A single core set does not have enough of certain cards to cover multiple player decks.

Shane Morgan crud now we have Arkham 3!!!
I sold Arkham long ago. Eldritch does all the same things, just better. These three are the ones to get.
Ha loved the intro....proper creepy
I love how he just runs with whatever pops in his head. No matter how weird it is.
Interesting... That is exactly the thing that annoys me. I think he should have cut those parts
Arkham Horror: LCG is my winner!!!!
I have everything for MoM 2, Eldritch Horror and Elder Sign. I'll have to try Arkham Horror: The Card Game.
Ninoslav Pleša I do love Elder Sign on the iPhone.
Ninoslav Pleša And you should check out Arkham Horror. ;)
I also am weak. I have all 3 plus expansions. All awesome.
Nothing wrong with that.
This is a really good overview of all three games. Great job!
James Sexton thanks for watching James! I love all three of them. I've been jonesing to play Eldritch again even more after shooting this weirdly.
Awesome Bryan, Kinda drawn between the three, Just cant decide. :).
andy craig yeah that’s my issue lol. I do tend to lean towards Mansions now a days though but they are all so great.

Eldritch Horror basically made it extinct.
