Most importantly, wipe area with alcohol before applying numbing cream and wrapping it. Opens the pores up immediately and allows the cream to deeply penetrate. I do this with dr numb and don’t feel anything at all for first 2 hours
Whitchazel is better than alcohol since it doesn't irritate the skin.
I heard that showering beforehand and opening up the pores is also a good way to let numbing cremes seep in. If you just put it on dry skin with no preparation whatsoever (eg the alcohol you mentioned), it will not be as effective.
1selfactualized thanks for the tip!!
Ive used it with no alcohol or shower and just covered and its still good for about 2 hrs
Do you remove the cream before you get the tattoo?
I've never used numbing stuff for mine, but if you plan on using any DO AN ALLERGY TEST BEFOREHAND! If you use something on your skin and then go get tattooed while you're having an allergic reaction, you might make things worse for you. To do an allergy test, put it on the inside of your elbow and fold your arm, then let it soak into your skin. If you are not having a reaction to it AFTER 24 HRS then you should be okay.
good idea. it would really suck to have something like that happen while getting tattooed. could be a one way trip to the hospital
Why the elbow? Just wondering
T. H. you test the inside of your elbow because that's not only where the skin is thin enough to pose as a worst case scenario, but also so you can fold your arm and make it warm there. You can test it anywhere, this is just the "textbook" method.
@@Tfrexs it's the area doctors suggest when you have a lot if allergies to things. Like to test lotion, shampoo, dyes and such
Great idea!! I've never used it either. Only heard it exists recently. Lol.
I got tattooed on my ribs some months ago, the pain was sharp but nothing unbearable. At some point the tattoo artist used Vasocaine and let me tell you, that thing is pure magic! I couldn't feel any pain anymore
Manon Jesus you got ribs tattoo
Vasocaine did work for me as well. I got a rib plus upper and lower ab tatoo. The rib was the freakin worse for me....so very very painful.
My Book2019 how long the numbness last?
Fucking bless the lord who made vasocaine.
I got both of my ribs done and FUCK THAT. Definitely getting numbing cream for next stomach tat
I don't have any tattoos and haven't really thought much about getting a tattoo either, but I really like these videos! It's always a pleasure to hear an expert go into depth about different topics.
Indeed it's very important to let us know that there's no affiliation with these products. Thanks for the time spent.

Exactly lol
@@dijaellis6303 yes I forgot about that already. I was weeeak😂
I use H2Ocean numbing foam and experience no swelling or distortion of the skin. I spray the foam onto my paper towel so I can continuously numb the skin as I tattoo, helps my clients out a lot. It also gets rid of the redness which helps when I need to take a photo at the end of a larger session.
yeah that nothing foam is pretty great. since using this video i've been using that and bactine more often than anything else. i used to use vasocaine a lot, but now i only save it for extreme circumstances since it swells the skin way more
I've had great experiences using H20cean foam as well. I recently started using Tac Science and clients like that too but I don't have the time to put it on an hour and a half before I start, so I've only used it on friends.
Do you also need to wrap up the area w/ H2O way before the tat or just apply and go. Thanks!
Do you have to wait a hour or half hour before the numbing works or can I just spray and start getting tatted?? Does it work immediately??
@@JamesWithee have you tried a spray called mg217 first aid it has 4% lidocaine. I haven't tried it yet, but it might be one of those ones that the skin needs to be open, I'm not sure though, you should check it out. Thanks
Had me at these motha fuckas
Dr Numb helped me a lot when I was 18 . I’m glad to hear about other products
I'm a permanent makeup artist and love numb master for my clients. I apply before breaking skin and apply again after my first pass and let it sit 15 minutes. My clients are comfortable and that makes my job so much easier and their results so much better. Thanks for the info 👍
What is breaking skin
The random cuss words are enjoyable haha
Kinky
Right lol
Right lol
And they always creep up in there 😂😂
used how they should be imo
I use dr numb for my torso stuff here and there...its great, but when it wears off, the pain is definatly magnified....another tip is if ur having a big piece or some filler done, let the artist slap the stencil on while ur numb....reapply the cream on the side hes not working on and cover it with plastic wrap, until hes ready to go on that side....keep it numb for the whole session, bcuz like i said, u can feel every poke X10 if it wears off and ur not done.
Cool and collected ... and then outta nowhere BAMM!!! "These mo' fockas dont even know who I am" 😂😂😂
I like your intros. The way you speak is concise and direct. No gimmicks. Love it.
Thank you for taking the time out to explain this. I have a huge cover up and tapped out at one session so I hAve a second session Sunday. I will take your advice
Dr numb worked fantastic for me when I got a big piece on my stomach. However, the down fall was that it only lasted for about 45 min til I wore off completely. But during those 45 min I honestly couldn't feel a damn thing! It was insane. I just felt a bit of pressure from my artists arm resting on me. A negative to it though as well is that you gotta use a bunch of it for it to work well. I used 2 full tubes to get that 45 min of ease over my entire stomach. And if I remember correctly, the 2 tubes ran me like 60$ or so.
I've also tried the hush cream and it worked OK but wore off even quicker than the Dr numb. They are similar in price , so I'd just go with the Dr numb from now own.
The vasocaine spray does work quite nice too, but as mentioned, you gotta apply it after you already get started and it wears off fast.
So for the ultimate no pain tattoo ( which is crazy to think is possible lol ) I'd recommend a couple tubes of Dr numb and a bottle of vasocaine to spray through the tattoo. Should get ya through anything! Haha.
I'm thinking about doing that for when I get my neck done, which will be in 2 weeks!!!
this sounds spot on. those products work pretty well in combination with each other. that h2ocean nothing glide can even be used as a 3rd factor in this combo. i feel like it could be a good triple threat. the dr. numb helps with the initial pain, the glide maintains throughout the session, and the vasocaine is for periodic relief to give you breaks from the more intense parts of it. i've also used h2ocean nothing foaming soap in place of vasocaine. it works great and doesn't cause the bumpy chicken skin that vasocaine does, although it's slightly weaker. not sure if i mentinoned that in the video. thanks for adding info about your experience
I got both sides of my neck done it’s actually the least painful
The back of my neck didn't hurt at all and it's a fairly large piece. My husband fell asleep while getting his large neck piece that goes down his back 10 inches
Andrew Swaney had my neck done. 2.5 hours ... it fucking hurt badly from the first sec to the last min 😂
It hurt just like my ribs. Pain is weird !
Andrew , was that when you got a stick on tattoo done
I love how real and direct you are about tattoos thank you
What are your tips on finger tattoos? How to preserve it and re-touching...
Whats your advice on using topical liquids to heal tattoos? Neosporin, liquid bandage, nexum products...
I used a product called super numb that worked for the first 2 hours of my last tattoo.
I only have one tattoo currently, though I have at least two more planned for the future, but I had used a numbing cream before I went in for my appointment and I'm not gonna lie that was probably the only way I could sit through the whole session. I have a very low pain tolerance, and the stuff only worked through half of the session, but it still helped me so much.
What would u recommend for a small tattoo I just wanna heart on the side of my boob and I’m also a low pain tolerance kinda person
This is very true regarding the dr.numb. I tested it and it made my skin super numb for HOURS but then when I replicated the process for my tattoo in my arm ditch, it was numb up until he started tattooing and it was as if the adrenaline canceled out the lidocaine and it hurt so bad I almost think worse than if I went in with nothing. I sat for it but man it was a big disappointment 😂
Thank you so much for this! I am convinced this is a sign that I should go forward with a tattoo.
Did you get it?
Dr numb didn’t work for me at all , TKTX Cream is good before tattooing last 2-4 hours . Until skin is broken down to far that’s when I feel pain .
Getting a tattoo on my hand but it's detailed work and it hurts as fuck. We had to have a break, so for second session, I have to use TKTX cream. Just left 2 hrs work in my hand now, do you think that it'll finish easily with TKTX Cream?
only 5% lidocaine isnt gonna do SHIT
@@ToriahDanielle You are wrong, kid. TKTX worked great for me. Very detailed tattoo in my hand and numb 3-4 hrs, no pain at all.
@@DagoninKingsport I want to get my late cousin name tatted on my right arm on February 16, I can take a needle at the doctors lol does that count?
@@DagoninKingsport my other forearm. This is my first time & I just want to know how it feels? I don't need to use any cream, I can sit there & endure it for awhile
Wish I knew about this when I got a full back done. Cuz 4 8 hour sessions was BRUTAL!
There is one product that I doubt any tattoo artist will know of but it’s gigi numbing spray. They also have one that’s more of a wipe on liquid but I can’t remember the name of it. What makes it good is that this is designed to be used under wax so what you do is you wipe it on, let it sit for maybe ten or fifteen minutes and then you wax and it continues to work. Seriously you could not get this shit to stop if you wanted to. Wash it, scrub it, wax it, whatever. It will work really well for about 30-45 minutes
Megan Lee interesting.. I wonder if the ingredients are safe for tattooing. With waxing the skin doesn't get broken, right? I'll have to check it out online
while the skin will get nowhere near as broken as when tattooed it does get broken (which is why waxing certain areas leads to a higher risk of catching STDs
Oh and shower and shave the spot before applying creme so you have open pours and it gets in your skin! Really helps the numbing affect! I’ve tried without shaving and not showering and it didn’t even work! *open them pours before applying
I go to my Doctors (I am in the UK) & ask for a prescription for stronger strength topical numbing cream & tell them I am going for a blood test (I am "allergic" to hypodermic needles but strangely enough, not tattoo needles!). I always ask them to write the prescription for several tubes of the cream. I also tell the artist in advance that I will be putting the cream on, but usually by the time I get to the studio, the cream has absorbed into the skin deep enough to have already numbed the area before I walk through the door (is effective after 30-35 minutes of application & covering up for around 2-3 hours). After I have been under the machine for 2-3 hours, I don't feel the pain anyway as the body has got used to the needles breaking the skin. Thankfully I get free prescriptions so saves me money (although only use it on the most painful areas such as ribs, inner/outer elbow, top of foot, etc).
How long do you keep the plastic on before taking it off?
@@user-dx9hz9ou4x at least an hour but can work ok after 35-45 minutes. I have in the past gone to the studio without the cream applied, and got the tattooist to shave & wipe down the area before application, then applied the cream, covered with clingfilm (saran wrap), waited for the tattooist to get the stencil ready and the rest of their area (& have a smoke before starting) which usually takes them 45mins-1hour anyway. The cream has then had effect on the skin, and they wipe it down, apply the stencil & away they go without feeling any pain at all for upto around 3 hours. The shaving of the skin seems to open the pores up a bit more and the cream soaks in a little better (especially if they use warm/hot water to do the shave - no point in them using green soap/etc for that as going to be wiping down again to clean the area of any remnant cream before they apply the stencil again). Wiping the area before doing anything does not stop the cream from working as if left long enough it will have had the effect by soaking in to the skin as if used for needle insertion by a nurse/Doctor, they will wipe the areas anyway with an alcohol based cleaner any way before inserting the needle/canula.
Thank you for this vid! I have my tatt appointment scheduled for next week, it’s a pretty big piece.
This will be my fourth, the first 3 were so painful for me...
Great job, Keep it up!
Dude, how was it, does it works as planed? ty for the answer
What about Ink Scribd?
i have one. i used emla. what i did was i put some on. then wrapped it in plastic wrap. waited an hour. put it on again wrapped it up waited again. i did not feel it at all.also i had surgery and they put emla on me a big amount on both hands for iv's because i have bad luck. they didn't take one off. about 3 hours later i took it off i was so numb. so yes it works great
The Steph and Steve Show where do you recommend buying that product
Jordan Hartley literally any pharmacy I just picked mine up today!
Hi, you mean you apply the numb cream and cover with wrap for 1 hour. Then u wash it off, reapply again and cover with wrap again for another 1 hour, total 2 hours? And zero pain? How long it last after that... Isn't it shorten the time
I'm only watching this coz I need to epilate my legs and I want to numb them lol
Bactine and A&D, those are Grannie and still are top on his list.

Can you do a video about how to take care of a tat after it's done? I might be getting one.... and I think what your videos are about is really educational and nice. So maybe you can make one for everyone? Aftercare of a tat?
the aftercare series is definitely coming. it'll prolly be a while before i film it though as it will be a very important video that needs to be well thought out
Yes. Okay. Hopefully it will be within the next 2 months?
I would like to see that too. Great idea. Your artist should go over that with you though

Did the video ever get done? I have a horrible time healing and I wonder if it’s something I’m doing wrong or something my tattoo artist is doing.

Good informative video, I've subscribed because it is quality inside Info that your videos put out. On that note..... I may be old school but I believe the pain is part of the experience! To endure the hours of being tattooed and to reach the end is fucking awesome every time. I know pain is DIFFERENT from person to person. But I've always thought going in Sober and not numbing added to the overall experience.
So as a tattoo artist, what would you say is the best product you’d want your client to use? I’m nervous something would screw up my tattoo.
thanks sir, watching this video helps me a lot.
I was on iv lidocaine after hernia surgery and it made me hallucinate. I was seeing crazy faces and even album covers appear out of nowhere. This was a dose way above what is in a cream or spray. Just wanted to mention another side effect of the drug.
This happened to me but Intervenous Benadryl!! I had a migraine that wouldn’t go away for four days so I ended up getting treatment for it and they gave me this one medication for nausea and this other one for Benadryl and man I looked like I was on some shit baha
@@meganborchart23 I hope it helped you overall. After a few days of tripping balls I told my nurses what was happening and I was like I've been tripping off this lidocaine for the last few days but my LSD days are over lol. If you could lower it a bit I'd appreciate it. They did and I continued my healing process.
@@SuperStrik9 baha so initially the Benadryl made me feel really pukey so then she diluted it more and pushed more of the antinausea. Then 25 minutes in is when I started feeling a little loopy baha. When I do a 9hr+ session I’ll use Soov spray around 4-5 hours into it, helps when doing multiple colours over and over again. Helps out really well
I have to subscribe to your channel because how well spoken you are and detail and concise information u provided.
Thank you for sharing 😊 I was considering trying a numbing cream my next big session I find 4-5 hours in things really start to hurt.. I will just deal with the pain I think as I wouldn't want to risk messing the awesome work done on me
H20 nothing glide, Thank you so much!
I don't use any pain relief cream before a tattoo....it is ink therapy for me. I focus on my breathing, get lost in my mind humming, music, meditation, and I eventually will fall asleep. But the one area I would have used this stuff is my lower back --- panty line area where your butt starts ---- that was tougher than my spine, ribs, and foot (I have a tree and it goes underneath my panties so about a quarter of my butt --- worst area ever --- I woke up for that area 😳😖😁).
Hey I would love if you did a review on tattoo numbing cream co. I've seen so many good things about and you can reapply it during as well. But I would like to see more reviews from artist's.

I had zero success with H20 Nothing but I love Hush. I usually get 2 solid hours of total numbness.
With the Hush when should I apply it?
@@tinalashay2498 I usually do about an hour and a half beforehand. Wrap real tight with Saran wrap until you're ready to tattoo.
@@marcussingleton6190 ok thank you so much for ur help
@@tinalashay2498 no problem and I'll give you one more tip. Lay it on thick. don't rub it into the skin. You should have a substantial layer just sitting on top of the skin before you wrap it. For example when I got my sleeve lined out I used half of a 4 oz bottle. A towel or a washcloth and some soap to scrub it off before your artist starts tattooing. It leaves a thick residue that can clog the machine.
1:03 and I love your attitude 🤣 I just got my whole back outlined and that shit hurts.
You don’t talk with your hands. Interesting. This is an excellent video. Thank you.
You probably mentioned this in another video, but if you are getting a multi-hour tattoo and you need to have a consultation with the artist days (weeks) beforehand, and discuss all of these issues. Also different parts of the body are more sensitive than others, my foot tattoo only hurt when it went over the ligament in my foot. Otherwise the pain was very tolerable.
Oonagh72 Yes he covered this in a video about pain during tattoos.
Pain is a part of the tattoo experience, I don't like pain but I can take it, numbing products are useful for people with very low pain tolerance, but for the average person just take the pain, it'll be better, no chance of allergic reaction, no extra swallowing, no risk of tattoo deformities, it's just better, I have my right shoulder tattooed and I'm halfway through my left arm and chest full sleeve, it hurts but it's worth it, I have nothing against this products I just don't think you should rely on them too much, the healing process is as painful as doing the tattoo or close, and it's really not good to use numb products all the time.
Pedro Thevenard I have a lot of tattoos and never used numbing cream. Just take the pain like you said. Ppl are wimps now a days. And I’m a female
@@vivienebrockington6342 lol good for you... if thats the case why are you watching the video. everyone takes pain differently. not everyone wants to sit through a 9 scale pain for their whole tattoo weirdo

Man, I’ve never had any of my numbed and never heard of numbing products... I’ve done five tattoos over a few decades I’ve got two tattoos left that I need to do before I am done and fortunately they are small enough to need pain relief during the tattooing process.
5% lidocaine is not nearly enough, I need something above 10% but it’s not really useful for me. I need nerve pain relief and lidocaine burns like hell and I don’t think I can get a potency or lidocaine that is useful to be numb without it being prescription strength.
If I am actually worried about pain, I generally take some NSAIDs before and being distracted while it’s going on is probably the easiest thing for me - I have an RX for a light dose of valium and I find that taking something that doesn’t thin my blood and I don’t go for pain relief as much as just being relaxed.
Having muscles that aren’t tense against the pain and just relaxed with a mild amount of things onboard to handle for swelling, but don’t take anything that thins your blood (in my state THC is legal, so instead of the terrible idea of drinking before hand and thinning blood, a mild amount cannabis).
The last product seems to be very interesting to me, I love how thorough that it’s low lidocaine and a wax that lubricates and numbs. I wouldn’t be bothered by that even if it burns, it seems to be workable with how I already prep for tattoos. I appreciate the tips if I decided to use this I’d buy my own and discuss it with an artist who is skilled around the SF area that is talented enough to get around the “chicken skin” and willing to use it.
I have a minor military medical background that I use to pregame my tattoo pain requirements so I can follow what ever artists’ rules and wishes I encounter; of course avoiding blood thinning is my top priority.
I love Vasocaine and have been searching everywhere. Completely sold out so my backup is Bactine (crossing fingers it'll be okay for clients).
Back in my day we didn’t have Doctors named Numb and we got our tattoos with coil machines. ;)
💯💯💯
I’m just watching this to find a way to thread my eyebrows without crying my eyes out
Im a guy who tapped out of a full back piece when it reach my lower back. Went back a month later, less than 3 hrs tapped out again. Lol. Not proud. But my lower back is just fuck full of nerves and my legs would start kicking and jerking when the work reached my lower back. Artist told me next time to buy ktkx gel. An hour before and wrapped it tight. Went through the entire lower back like a fucking champ! Although there will still be parts of your skin where it will still hurt, i would say 97% of my lower back was absolutely dead and i didnt feel a thing. Also it remained numb for about 2 and a half hrs. After that it started to sting but was still very bearable.
Emla cream is the best numb cream out on the market. Don’t feel a thing. Not even pressure
Detailed, concise and professional
Might be a stupid question but Can I put all of the numbing gels on??
There's no point in using every single one of them. They all have a certain percentage of lidocaine and it doesn't add up cumulatively

i understand why people use numbing products and deff a good video if i ever feel the need for it but some spots that were a solid 7-8/10 for me are some of my favorite tattoos the pain and reward after effect is one of my favorite parts of the experience. From sitting in a chair saying to yourself why am i paying so much to have someone do this to me, to Oh yeah that’s why! Do what works for you and consult your artist.
I used the hush tattoo spray for my first rib piece and I’d say I didn’t feel a thing... tho I’m not sure if it was cuz of the actual numbing or I just have a high pain tolerance
Let’s say you get a tattoo at 1 or 2 in the afternoon
Then dink alcohol at like 6 or 7 that same night will the alcohol affect the ink sets into the skin and heals
you recommend any of these for piercings? I’m getting my nipples redone for the 3rd time and i have a feeling my scar tissue is gonna be crazy because the first time it didn’t hurt at all, the second my eyes watered & i definitely felt it and i want them again now but I knowwww it’s gonna hurt

Your awesome!! Thank u for a wonderful & informational review on these products & how they work!!
Does a tat hurt more if you're skinny?
No. People with some fat under the skin have the same amount of nerve endings that a thin person does. What does hurt more are the areas with little padding between the skin and bones like shoulders, ankles, feet, hands, elbows, and ribs. Also back of the arms, inner thighs, neck, ribs are super tender places.
What's TATTOO NUMBING😂🤣...first time I heard of them, I thought the person was yanking my chain.

I never needed a numbing agent. Usually after the first 10 minutes of needle time, the endorphins have kicked in and it’s smooth sailing. Just remember to breathe through the tender spots. If you hold your breath the pain is worse.
I didn’t understand really so basically there’s no cream or none of them really work 100% they all numb a little bit? And no matter what you still going to feel pain 😳🥺😟 I need one that works before the tattoo cause the chest area fuck is so painful I didn’t 7 years ago and I have re touched it cause of how bad it hurt :( any can you do some that you can used before the tattoo like before you open the skin?
