Van Halen - Mean Street (Live Video)

- This version was recorded for Spanish TV, "Mean Street"" was the second single from "Fair Warning".
Reframed and adjusted the aspect ratio, touched up the video, added a little bit of sharpening as well as adding enhanced audio.
Hope you enjoy!
This song doesn't get the credit it deserves, RIP, Eddie, the rock world misses you.
Mean Street is one of the most popular and powerful tunes. It definitely gets the credit it deserves.
RIP EDDIE ... YOU AND VAN HALEN GAVE ME MANY GREAT MEMORIES GROWING UP .... THE GOAT !!!!
GUITAR GOD. EDWARD VAN HALEN
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
REST IN PEACE BROTHER.

F'king this one hits hard. Another chunk of youth & heart gone 😓😭 He was one of greats & the best 🎸🔥 RIP Eddie Van Halen 🖤🥀🎵🎸
Yes, tough loss.
This time brother big time you hit the nail on the head my friend f******* hits hard
Yeah well put this one hits real hard
Truth.....grew up starting w VH1.Been bummed since i heard.Watching vids all week.....sad.
Another chunk of youth and heart gone I really feel that statement well put thank you for that
Never mind his playing, Eddie had to be one of the coolest live performers ever. His playing, his moves, his positive vibes. He had it all.
This video was actually the band playing to the recorded studio version. I'm surprised they did this, because like you said he was a good live performer.
@Darren DeMarco That's wild. I never knew that? When did that happen?
@Darren DeMarco Ah ok. Fair warning is my favorite album too.
Eddie's moves? Great guitarist no doubt, but who could take their eyes up "Jumping" Diamond Dave?
@@DaryMatera Well, he was a showman's showman, but I have a soft spot for guitarist, being a crappy one myself.
Kids today have no idea how lucky we were to grow up listening to Van Halen.
This is Van Halen at their pinnacle. This is Van Halen!
No Doubt, I have seen them many times, with Dave was the best!
Yes, it certainly is.
RIP Eddie you'll be forever missed, thanks for the great music memories.
That guitar intro with that little dive bomb at the end still gives me chills. A killer opening track to an underrated album. Still miss you Eddie.
=VH= 🤘🏻🎶🎵🎸
2:18 Great😊❤
And drums didn't plug in. In These days. Microphone up
And plus you can tell that at the end they wasn't playing .
My favorite Van Halen album. Every sing is good.
I love Sammy but he could never write a vocal melody like this. Sammy was too pop and Dave was straight up Blues/Rock
Best guitarist of ALL TIME. He produced the greatest "riffs" of any guitarist. Made you say, "How does he do that?"
Sadly there never be another era of rock and roll like 60s and 80s. RIP Eddie!! Graduated in 87 and I'm so glad I had a lasting impression on my kids. They acknowledge and appreciate music from this era. My ears still ringing from blasting this full volume
Most likely will never happen again, years of playing out before going to the studio.
Every generation says this. Tons of Van Halen like bands out there rocking it. Billboard has many different charts, including heavy metal, etc. Wolfgang Van Halen's first solo album was Number 1 on one of those charts recently. Without a single radio hit.
I seen them in 1978 with black sabbath , Portland Oregon & at the jantzen Beach arena
What about the 70s
Well said 😢
Van Halen rocks harder even when they're faking it than most bands today.
I'm a VH fan, from the beginning. They were special. I was saddened to see DLR go. Back then, no one could hold a candle to them. They were fresh. They were rockin. As far as I'm concerned... they're still relevant. There is no other.
We can let this slide because we all know that he did even better than this when he played live concerts. He proved himself many times over. This is obviously just to promote the LP at the time.😁
I love Sammy but he could never write a vocal melody like this. Sammy was too pop and Dave was straight up Blues/Rock
@@danielbrown1724 Sammy was a great classic rocker in montrose, and solo, but he had to function around van Helen's style which was formed David Lee Roth's style. David Lee and Eddie were straight cool hippies that once got high together. And, that's how they wrote music.
@@guitarttimman Exactly. But, sometimes I wonder if bands like VH were enthusiastic at all about lip-syncing. Ya know... faking it. Feel like Eddie would have been eye-rollin the idea. I guess if the price was right... they would have played with a ukulele and a bongo.
I remember when this album came out,
Mean Street blew me away!!
Fair warning
This is hard to believe. He was one of a kind. Tops in my book.
..tops.🎩
Yes
He was the goat!

With full respect to Van Hager, this was Van Halen at their best...raw sound combined with pop-like song writing...doesn’t get any better
Tell THAT to all the assholes that think the shitty noise being passed off is music today. They don't have the first fucking clue what real music is!
Can you imagine how much better they would be with CC DeVille on guitar?
@@tyronejefforeillyramirez7961 No one would've ever heard of them. CC DeVille and Eddie Van Halen were worlds apart in their style of playing and musicianship. Eddie was CC's inspiration. It was Eddie's guitar licks that put this band on the map!
@@solarismoon3046 was a total joke. I think CC is one of the worst.
What???? CC couldn't hold a candle to Eddie Van Halen. Go attend an NA meeting. Wow.
The greatest American rock band in their absolute prime. Fuck, they were amazing.
That talent came came at a tremendous price. Be careful what you wish for and who your asking.
@@davestreet7114 I don't really understand how your comment applies to early VH. Unless I'm missing something, they weren't sacrificing animals to demons or drinking blood for fame. Their success was talent in combination with busting their asses in clubs and refining their craft for YEARS. VanHalen busted their asses and put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into their success, Beyond that, you lost me.
We were all so blessed with this band!
My favorite Van Halen song off of my favorite Van Halen album.
Let’s not see this as a loss but as the profound gift he was to all of us.
So so so grateful!
Play on, Eddie...
There are great guitarists, but there will never be another Eddie Van Halen
One of the best VH songs!
A little trivia... Eddie Van Halen said "Fair Warning" was his favorite album.
Mine as well!!!
Same
Mine too
Same! Too many underrated cuts on this album
Dirty Movies!
One of the best 4 piece bands California ever released on the world!
The Best.
Most the other like Metallica came to be because they hated cali
@@reptar5124, that could be part of it for sure.
@@reptar5124 Ya, I liked that Van Halen embraced being from Cali..and I'm NOT even from there.
@@thismothafuckasaid7304 yeah I agree. David Lee Roth was on Rogan speaking east LA cholo talk. Very rooted and gave them the street wise attitude. It was before glam metal and I understand why ppl like Metallica rebelled against it and Dave Mustain said Glam stands for Gay L A Metal. The bands like Poison and Cinderella became annoying. Motley Crue and Guns and Roses even though not glam had elements of that glam era bc it was so dumb big. Thrash was a big finger to that and Cobain even more so. But Van Halen was the 1st and best the rest are wannabes
This is always been a great song. Never got much radio play when I was younger... I think that was good because it wasn’t overplayed. But it’s one of my favorites. RIP Eddie. 💔❤️😇🎸
This is outstanding. I loved them with crazy Dave. Sure miss Eddie. But he's gone but never ever forgotten.
Hard to believe.
Sometimes feels like a lie.
King Edward cannot die! His spirit and one of a kind talent lives on through his incredible music! You truly are the King!!!
RIP Eddie ...saw you on this Tour Cincy '81. BEST ALBUM!
I saw the same tour Chicago '81 18 years old and stoned to the bone!! RIP Edward
Definitely best album I agree
@@MrMajikman1, musta put a new crease in your brain!
This is one of the greatest Van Halen albums ever. Long Live VAN HALEN, Long live LIVE music, and the innovation of hip/punk/rock instrument based music. Band is so tight here, I know it’s a televised recording so they are syncing or double tracking but this was when the band was at its early-mid80s prime, Love to all the fans and his family and friends and band
-RIP Eddie Van Halen
Micheal Anthony just slapping that bass with precision and power. The guy is one hell of a player. RIP Eddie🤟🎶😎
Lol how can you even make the comment they're so tight when the instruments aren't even plugged in 😂😂
This was a great album, but not in their top 3.
EVH inspired me to play music. 316 was the first song I learned on guitar. His influence and knowing his dad was a Jazz musician lead me down the rabbit hole to discover Jazz, R&B, Funk, and appreciate Country(finish what you started). RIP 🙏. I thank God for the gift to humanity your life was.
Let me set the stage. High school. Party. It’s goin ok. Suddenly. Van halen mean streets comes on. Party suddenly goes into a frenzy. A energy enters the room. And it’s electric. Bombastic. Boys. Thank you. You gave us so many endless hours of joy. Pure pleasure.
My personal favorite Van Halen tune R.I.P. mister Van Halen.
Mine as well , it's flawless and just so kick ass in every way imaginable .
With you on that man 👍
Panama?
Awww you dont have to call me Mr. Fuckface will do just fine.🤧
Gas, grass or ass. What was I talkin about??😅😅😅
RIP EDDIE, Thanks for the memories! You were the best and most explosive guitarist ever, in my humble opinion! You were truly the best of the best!! RIP EDDIE......................
True genius, no fakes, just real!
I still can't stop crying. I still can't. Every time I hear Van Halen see a video on MTV MT was MTV was the bomb back in the day one August 1981 MTV debuted oh my god they didn't want Van Halen on there. I remember the first video on MTV from Van Halen. Oh my God it was awesome Eddie man. He's so mesmerizing. I've seen him so many times. Live in concert. I live in South Florida. Big 105.9 is my station. Oh my god I I still can't believe he's gone. It hurts. It hurts. I'm 57 years old. I have Van Halen all over my car. I don't know what to say. It's just too much to bear. It is when I heard he passed away from cancer from smoking. Oh my god 65 years old. He was the best in the world. Well next to Jimmy Hendrix and others but there's never going to be another any Eddie but Wolfgang Van Halen is coming to my area. I wonder how good he is. I don't know. He's going to revolution in fort Lauderdale Florida coming up. Can't wait! I miss Eddie so much. So does the rest of the world. You can't take this. You can't take your eyes off of him. Unbelievable and he's always smiling that that's so cool. The biggest fan in the world next to ACDC and Metallica. Anyways, I guess I said a novel. Sorry guys I I get chills and goosebumps and I just start crying can't help it rest in peace brother Eddie you're playing for God now
When I heard Van Halen for the first time, I was blown away from the guitar sounds..!! Unbelievable sounds!! My favorite Guitar Player. RIP.
Dam...RIP Eddie Van Halen. Thanks for the many memories with your awesome guitar riffs. Rock and Roll heaven gained another angel. Happy trails till we meet again.
The best mother fr guitarist ever.rest in peace.thanks for all the memories.🙏
Just the best and most innovative guitarist ever known to mankind.....nobody will ever have the impact he did.
All the glam and show aside,
The music still holds up!🤘🏻
Lol this is just a video played over the studio recording it's not live.
On a TV show, lip syncing; no surprise.

One of my favorite tunes from VH but,...
I can't help but see Dr. Rockzo whenever I see Diamond Dave
and just start cracking up...
OMG!! I never knew this existed! 1981! Love this song. Eddie, RIP, played incredible mind blowing guitar on this and the entire album. This video takes me back. I was 13. It wasn't their fault the video was so incredibly cheesy. They were still the most awesome band on the planet. My cousin was the first one to show me this VH album. And again, as Eddie always did, I heard the intro to Mean Street and I was completely mind blown. I've always loved how he ended the intro with that fade of feedback with the reverb. Eddie was awesome. He lives on in the music and in our hearts. RIP King Edward.
Thats not reverb, thats chorus and a phaser.
When they ruled the world. Classic Van Halen was/is unstoppable.
I share same birthday as Diamond Dave. He has 14 years on me. What a showman and what can you say about Eddie and the other guys. Old school from 1981!

Fair Warning...my favorite album of the real Van Halen.
This is undoubtedly and absolutely the most ripping piece of rock ever recorded. Freaking sexy swagger...knock your damn socks off...light your smoke and kick your ass. Holy damn it boogies!
One of the best rock and roll videos of all time period. EVH is the greatest guitarist of all time. RIP Edward.
My favorite from these guys. The intro is just insane.
Van Halen The most ultimate Rock Band of all time R.I.P EVH
So many greats but this is definitely one of the greatest
The Wireless technology in 1981 was amazing.

And no such thing as a bad VH song.
Period. God bless EVH's memory.
The king is dead. Long live the king.
Great list also Aint Talkin bout Love
one of the best songs from Van Halen RIP Eddy
Eddie was such a great guitarist he could play rhythm and lead at the same time in the outro.
No he couldn't. That's an overdub.
He was the Jimi Hendrix of my generation I'm 60 years old seen them in 1978 at Winterland in San Francisco for the first time🎸🎤👍
This song just jams. Love the sound of Alex's snare. Thanks for posting this vid.
My favorite song by Van Halen!
One of my fav VH tunes, so bluesy, funky, awesome beat and riffs

RIP Eddie. Wonder how many times I hit rewind on my cassette player to this song.
At least 152 times 😜
Grew up listening to these guys and they always put a smile on my face ! Eddie you were the best .
That's a Jim Dandy! When their debut came out in 1978 I was 19 years old and would carry that album (which I still own) around in my car to parties and tell everyone, "you gotta hear this!" That album really turned rock-n-roll on its ear!
Agreed, and I'm 59. In Jr H/S that's ALL you heard in the hallways on boomboxes between classes. Saw them in '79 in a small venue in Boulder CO, and they RAWKED!
@@kx8960 I bet that was a good show! My first time was at the Texxas Jam in '78 along with 100K other maniacs in the Cotton Bowl! They should have called it the Hotter'n Hell Jam! Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, Eddie Money, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Head East, Journey, Heart. VH played at like 11 a.m. and it was a looong day! Cheech and Chong was the closer!! Oh, and tickets were $12.50 and we thought that was exorbitant!
@@madmax8949 Nice! I still have my VH hat from the show, it's a tad worn now as you'd expect. I paid $20 for the US Festival ticket (have the stub). Have a t-shirt from it in mint condition, wonder what it's worth... Oh, and way back in '81 my friends mom sold me her genuine Woodstock program (she went and there were 2 printings, one from the actual concert, and one done after, I have the real/first one). Cool bit of memorabilia. It's not in mint condition, it's obvious it got at least a little wet, but considering, it's still in great shape...and I've looked in all the vintage record/poster and book stores and have never seen another in the flesh. Rock on!
Heaviest and greatest groove ever created in rock. End of discussion.
Breaks my heart! Such an amazingly talented man. One of my all time favorites! Thanks Eddie for the awesome memories you left us with. God got another angel 😇 and left a whole in our hearts.
So Freakin' GOOD! What a groove
One of the nasiest Grooves ever laid down/Hunted turns into Hunter/Dance Baby/Fair Warning
Don't forget you get some leg tonight for sure
Come on Dave! Give me a break! Hey, hey, hey! One break coming up!
Right just vicious...eds funky groove...the damn pissed off tone...and Ol diamond Daves perfect street fighting ghetto flow...
"Fair warning, Lord, strike that poor boy down!" is one of the greatest examples of Roth saying the right thing to match the mood of the music. I enjoy some Van Hager songs too, but it seems that Sammy only had "baby, baby" or "hey" for fill vocals.
@@michaelsievers8476 Great band when they were on. Some of those coked out shows were sad given their talent.
Some of Alex's best drumming on this LP
RIP EVH!!!!!!!!!!

This has got to be one of the top 10 songs ever made
Underrated album .... very progressive 👌
Progessivelly Progressive; if ya wanna get Progressive about it.🧐🧐
Love me some Van Hagar but THIS is Van Halen.
Van Halen sang f*ck songs and Van Hagar sang love songs
Profound statement
👍 Even years later, when Sammy was in the band and they let David come in again for however many songs, they came up with Me Wise Magic! Harder than ANY VanHagar tune!
I can’t stand DLR! Liked Sammy better! RIP Eddie!
Two different bands as far as I’m concerned.
Both rocked, but it doesn’t get any better than this!
Always loved this tune... IT ROCKS!!!
the best guitarist in history playing the best rock guitar song of all time... r.i.p. brother.
Besides Larry Carlton and 37 else and the new one mancuso
There are 35 else in other style than just this
Great song, but nah, Satriani's better, seen them both, in fact, seen almost ALL of the known guitar players over 4+ decades of seeing live shows.
There would be no satriani without ed. Ive known joe since 1988. I love his music and his style but he and vai are only doing what ed’s already done… he will tell u his self that ed was the one who started the whole aggressive guitar era. Everybody knows ed is the greatest guitarist of the 19th century.
@@salski70 There would be no Eddie without Jeff Beck and especially Jimmy Page. Having seen both Eddie and Joe several times, Joe's got technical skills Eddie doesn't. Besides, Eddie didn't "come before Joe", Joe is only a year younger. They played in the same era, Joe just didn't get FAMOUS as soon as Eddie did.
Such a great song!!!🤘🏻
Best album, Mean Street the Best Song. Fair Warning Along with Diver Down made VH fame in the 80´s
Thank you, this is fantastic to see. One of my favorite VH songs from my favorite VH album. I don't see much from this era in the bands life.
Sadly. My favorite album. I did see them live during this tour.
Eddie king of "tapping" my heart throb for the 80s my entire bedroom was plastered with him... I got your M&Ms my man ....
...
Saw VH in 1982 and it was the best live show I have ever seen.
This brings back fond memories, one of the first eight tracks I ever bought for cruising in my 67 Chevelle in 81 was Mean street!, this and a few others were the sound track to underage bar hopping and other great times!, shit, life was so simple back then!
And they performed this song without a single instrument plugged in,.....amazing.
wut??
Right - most people don't even notice this in live shows. Watch The Kinks "Lola" live where none of their guitars are plugged in and the song somehow sounds exactly the same as the album. Go figure.......
That's because they dubbed the music over a "performance."
Yeah, love the song but hard to watch the video to lip sync
I love how Dave’s mic has a wire and he’s still lip syncing anyway
So cool!!! Classic Van Halen!!!
Rest in Peace Mr. Edward Van Halen. You are forever in my memory.
Well, one silver lining is that Eddie passed away at a time when many of us needed to be reintroduced to this band of goofy, outrageous, mischievous, partying rascals. Personally, I needed a boost of out-and-out fun. So sad that he's passed, but it really did come at a time when people needed this burst of Van Halen.
Rest in peace, Eddie. You will always be a god among guitarists.
You know, your right. I feel really lucky to have grown up in that era .hope the kids today can find something to make them feel the same
@@blainebattams4648 I think often nowadays of just how lucky we really were. My son is 19, and I feel like his social world sucks compared to what I had. All the rock concerts all the time, for one thing. Talk about therapy and sense of community and just goddamn all-out fun; that's sorely missing for many young people today. But hey, they find ways to have fun; it's just a little harder than it was for us, I think haha.
this is Van Halen BABY!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP Eddie!!!!!
This has to be in my opinion, the best VanHalen song of all time! LOVE MY VH.
Screaming guitar and commanding vocals they were the kings
Bands that enjoy what theyre up there doing, are the best bands of them all
How did I never see this video? One of Ed's finest guitar parts.

When VH debuted during the disco horror it's hard to explain the effect it had on us rockers. While Boston was kicking it up most of our rock heroes were getting burned out. Uncle Ted was carrying the weight for true rockers and then VH came. TGFVH. I guess the closest modern comparison would be Nirvana but they didn't have Eddie. Thanks, Eddie for giving us true pleasure as kids and into adulthood.
I get what you're saying, and there's no bigger VH fan than me, but don't tell me you didn't like the soundtrack from Saturday Night Fever.
The absolute BEST. The Hagar fans don't get it. Who cares who can sing at a higher register, blah blah. DLR was a complete original, with both scream and swagger , When it comes to Rock And Roll, this is the definition of Cool Attitude, period. Rock On !
