Looks great, but how damaging is this? Is there a way to uncomb it without damaging?

You can massage it out with your fingers and gently finger comb and then use a wide-tooth comb.

If I like to curl my hair is it best to backcomb first?

You can do it before or after. If you don't want to mess up your curls too much, you may want to do it first.
