I am not a fan of certain growls, but with Wintersun, the growls are not overdone to sound over aggressive. I like clean growls that are not dominant for the entire song. These men can sing, and man, can they play the instruments that require so much technique. Really enjoyed this reaction.

Great review and reaction. Keeping it in direction next should be ”Land of snow and sorrow” and then ”Loneliness” with lyrics. You can seperate your music life in two phases. Life before and after Wintersun. You always return to listen.
Wintersun is all Jari Mäenpää, the singer. He plays most of the instruments etc.
Next their song Loneliness. It really shows Jari's vocals.
Anyone wanting to hear the guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari play heavy classics? Impressive!

Thanks for sharing another great reaction. Love that guitar intro, so powerful when the drums come in, building up and up with the great bass line and heavier guitars, into the valley, then to the mountain top with Jari's scream. And of course, Kai killing it with double kicks and blast beats. And not to be forgotten, deep, emotional lyrics about despairing for a lost love as your life fades away. And Jari is working on a new album, actually based on their fakebook, five albums! Supposedly, Time II is 90% complete. Stay safe, God bless, and keep rocking.🤘🤘🤘

Hi Crissy, don't quote me on this but as far as I can tell Jari is singing into a Shure SM7B. Kai back at playing 4/4 over triplets & 6/8, which I tried but failed miserably at (don't have double kick bass, haha). To me this is an almost perfect song, though I do feel that Mouseman has a point abt vocals/keys.
As other commenters have said already, Jari plays many instruments. If he'd also join Nightwish, we could have it all: him and Emppu doing some of these crazy good countermelodies on guitars (if he picks up that instrument again) and Jari belting/growling it out with Floor to regain the full metal vocal blast they had with the unsurpassed Marko/Floor blend. Kai joined Nightwish in 2014, made permanent in 2019. Jukka Koskinen joined them after Marko left in 2021, made permanent 2 months ago. Crissy is right, Sami Vanska was 1st Nightwish bassist before Marko.

I don´t know if it has been mentioned already but i say it anyway, That Jari, the lead singer when being in the mandatory Finnish Army, contracted tuberculosis and lost 1/4 of his lungs, but dispite that has a powerful voice. By the way, the song " Loneliness " has lyrics.

You need to get used to the idea that it is quite common in Europe for musicians to work with other bands and artists while remaining in their own band. Kai has been in both Wintersun and Nightwish at the same time, though Wintersun had to get another drummer for live shows if it clashed with Nightwish tours. I am not sure if Kai has officially left Wintersun even now. Jukka is in both bands as well. The singer and creator of Wintersun is Jari Mäenpää. Jari is pronounced YA-ree, with a rolled 'r' but that's pretty tricky. Jari seems to play a lot of the instruments when recording and calls on the others when needed. I think he enjoys working alone on his projects.

Great song, beautiful guitarsolo or duet, fantastic singer. But it is a lot to digest in once, very complicated indeed. Metal art I say. Still have the great 'Jinjer' to go, a lot simpler arangements, no synths but very virtuoso. From raw straight in the face to easy listening. It will surprise you at least.

Ok, so if my request for Eluveitie is already in the pipeline. Might I suggest something very different. Something fun and silly but still badass. Try Alestorm-Drink or Nancy the Tavern wench. Alestorm is a scottish Pirate metal band. i love the brilliant musicianship of a Nightwish, Epica, Wintersun but sometimes sometimes fun party metal has its place.

Kai the drummer joined 2015 think the bass player has been with them over a year and he's really good but so far he isn't singing I think he can but tuomas hasn't utilized him yet but he could, Troy has been singing with floor and he's got a good voice but it's really not metal enough I miss marco anyway remember this a recording studio these guys are really good musicians God bless

@2ndhand Since you are going Finnish, might want to check out Wolfheart: "Aeon of Cold", "Zero Gravity", "Boneyard", "World on Fire", "The Flood". It's a bit more aggressive than you're used to, perhaps, but nonetheless it's effin' CRAZILY well written death metal.
