- “Beyond the Hill” is a short 2D animation film which was produced within 50 weeks. Written & directed by Giulia Cervato and produced by Emmanouil Zervoudakis.
The story takes place during the pandemic and shows the grief of a young girl losing her grandad while something unexpected comes into her life which brings hope.

Recently on October, my grandpa passed away, just a few weeks before my 19th birthday. Last week, my Grandma had to be taken to the hospital.
This short hit extremely close to home in more than one way.
When Grandpa passed away, I had this feeling that time and progress just immediately stopped. I was even feeling emptiness in my lunch breaks at community college. But I learned that life always goes on after death, life goes on and there’s always hope waiting for us.

This short reminds of one of my favorite video games,fair warning it will make you cry. It's called Ending extinction is forever, you play as mother fox trying to care for her kits at the end of the world and try to figure out what has happened to humanity. The theme is all about new life in the middle of death.
I’ve recently played it. It was pretty good! The most important part (and the one that hits the hardest) is the story of the relationship between the mother and her kits. The gameplay isn’t bad and the graphics were nice too. While the environmentalist message feels a little bit on the nose, I don’t think they did a bad job with it either. Perhaps it was a little too short, but it’s definitely worth it.
That is really good I have not played is iv seen the whole thing though
Bro I was just thinking of the same game when I saw the ending to this short. It still makes me sad internally to this day.
you know what? this is the best thing i ever watched about the pandemic.
Ignited a fond memory. Many years ago my 3 mo. old son died of SIDS. One year later I found myself alone in a foreign country surrounded by several million strangers. I needed help, emotionally and God sent me a minor miracle of major impact that helped me keep it together until returning to my wife and son. Two years later a daughter and then a few years more another son were added to our family. We all have trials and tragedies we must face but, life moves forward and we decide to make it positive or not. Now, 35 years later we still remember and honor the lost little one while celebrating the spouses of our children and our grandchildren.

I was also not allowed to see my grandma before she died, this hit really close to home.
Love the animation, at first I had no idea these were 3D models! Awesome designs and linework. The lighting and background design is also outstanding, especially for the last shot at the end with the family
One of the few shorts to make me sob, not because I lost my grandpa, but because I lost my cat recently, who was my best friend after she was slowly dying from congestive heart failure- I felt like I couldn’t do anything but watch her suffer, until the failure inevitably overtook the medicine and she had to be put down.
I was and am still very distraught, she and I went through a lot together, I miss her man…
this was such an amazing short film, i almost cried, so cool!!
the animation is so beautiful you can hear the slow music and see the dark deary colors they portray her sadness and loss perfectly and when you see when the fox appears the music starts to increase its pace and the colors start to become more livelier and lighter and at the end the sunrise symbolizes a new beginning. i absolutely love the music and art style.

Well... before the death of my cousin from another country her last words she told were she'll be back as a butterfly....After her funeral i needed some alone time at her grave....it has pass two hours and then i saw a big beautiful blue butterfly landing into my hand and then i understood that she's always going to be there for me even she's at peace 🕊️

O wow only 0.35 seconds into the video and I'm already crying like a river 😭. Must be a new record. I lost my granny the first year of co... luckily she was allowed to be at home with family(she didn't have co.. just her time) I'm so sorry for all the people that couldn't say goodbye. I light a candle for her if I miss her to much.

This is extremely good because it is made in an era where most entertainment is 'wizards, warriors, monsters & etc kill & destroy each other & everything'. It reminds me when my Dad passed away over 7 years ago. Looking at, being around & using his stuff is a weird, sad but strangely comforting feeling.

When my grandmother died from cancer, I was the one to close her eyes. When the undertakers took her away that evening I heard the lone flapping noises and telltale honk of a goose. It was odd since geese usually fly with their flock and they never fly past the house. I think it was my grandmother saying goodbye.
