- Today in Kuala Lumpur I went to Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice restaurant. This amazing restaurant has been serving claypot chicken rice since 1985 and they are still cooking it on coals.
Have you tried Claypot Chicken Rice?

Dear Donovan Clayton, it is with the utmost delight that I have witnessed your distinguished self embarking upon a culinary foray, partaking in the venerable tradition of Claypot Chicken Rice in the hallowed precincts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 🇲🇾 The symphonic amalgamation of flavors and textures in this epicurean opus is nothing short of a gustatory marvel, a connoisseur's delight, one might venture to declare. Pray, allow me to surmise that your epicurean expedition was nothing less than an apotheosis of culinary refinement!
😆😆 thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it I couldn’t have put it better myself
😋
Umbra is type of fruit, also called ambarella or kedondong in malay. The brown thing is a preserved plum, together they make a sweet and salty drink, it's very popular, cool and refreshing.
Never had it before but it was tasty 😃 thanks for sharing 👍🏾
We don't eat it directly from the claypot. That's why they've given you a plate. You didn't mix up the rice in the claypot to let the sauce coat all of the rice. If you want, add in that piece of salted fish and mix it in together with the rice. The salted fish is in a separate container, because some people like it with their rice and some don't. You then scoop up a portion onto the plate and eat from the plate. When you've finished with what's on your plate, go for a refill from the claypot.
Thanks 😃👍🏾
That's salted fish in the small metal tin, they put it separately so you can choose ot mix it in or not as you like. You don't eat it by itself, because well it's salty as heck. It's for added flavour and umami. Kinda like adding malt vinegar to chips for taste, some like it and some don't!
Yeah it has a very rich flavour 😁
You REALLY need to do some research on the food you're having.. ie how to enjoy it properly.. Noticed that you like to wing it but a simple google search on how to eat it will enhance your gastronomic experience
What did I miss 😄
Oh...! I'd like to try claypot chicken someday. I look forward to you next video, I can't wait!
It’s delicious 😃
Mmmm.. claypot chicken rice.. freshly cooked on charcoal. One of the best and underrated Malaysian foods to be had. 👍🏻
Very sedap that chicken is so tender 😃
Yeah.. the bacon thingy is called Chinese sausage and the fishy addon should actually be salted fish paste.. next Malaysian Chinese cuisine you should try next is Laksa or Curry Mee, Beef noodles and if you get the chance for another visit back at Jalan Alor.. there are countless restaurants which you can order famous Malaysian Chinese dishes such as salted egg chicken, butter chicken, butter prawns/shrimps and whole variety of soups thats served with rice. Can't wait for your next food adventure.
ohno, u have to mixed up everything in the bowl before eating..
😃👍🏾
Happy u enjoyed the claypot chic rice.. we have many more rice! Haha… Malaysia is all about Rice… I recommend you to go to Kuala Selangor or Klang for seafood and ikan bakar…
Thanks it was amazing 😃👍🏾
KL have 5 area popular for food , Kampong Baru , Pudu , chow kit , bukit bintang n brickfield
What your favourite area? I like Kampung Baru ❤️
@@_donovanclayton local people consider whom cook the best regardless area
Many have advised him to seek advice from locals on how to eat and enjoy local dishes but he ignores them and continue to do things his way, somewhat arrogant but that is how he gathers follower, making every meal a challenge, not only finding food such as roti canai and hokkien mee but also eating the food.
😂 thanks for watching
The plate is given for you to eat on as some people prefer to do it that way. This way the rice will cool down so it’s more comfortable to eat.
😃👍🏾
Bro, if you are still in Malaysia, you must try Maggie goreng mamak. Just go to any decent looking mamak restaurant, and order Maggie goreng mamak with fried chicken and telur mata (fried egg), ask them to provide some limau (lime) and chili sauce too at your table. You will not regret this. For me, Maggie goreng mamak should be our signature national dish too.
Bro I left Malaysia I’ll be back soon and I will definitely give it a go 😃👍🏾 thanks for sharing
@@_donovanclayton you're welcome, it's Maggi actually not Maggie. However, different mamak restaurants have different tastes, it depends on the chef. I hope you get the good one on the first try.
I noticed in your vlogs that you're not well informed about how to serve your food before eating them. You really need to learn to ask the food servers there on how to eat this claypot chicken rice with fermemted salted fish. You need to mix everything thoroughly before serving it. That's the correct way to fully enjoy this dish!😅
I didn’t know it was gonna come with fermented fish that’s not what i asked for 😄
@_donovanclayton It's this expensive little piece of fish that actually makes or breaks this claypot chicken rice. Those who are into this dish will swear by it. Lol😋 Enjoy!
Are you still in kl? No new video..
I’m in Turkey 😃 I’ll be back soon ❤️
@@_donovanclayton have a nice trip
that is a nice food. No milk needed because it is not spicy. That small metal with something in there I think it is salted fish. What is the next foodie you aiming for/
I fly to Turkey next 😃 but I’ll be back soon 🇲🇾❤️
@@_donovanclayton Oh. I was enjoying your malaysian food review. So going to Turkey? When you returning back to Malaysia.
@@handsomemann1 I don’t know yet but I’m looking forward visiting other places in Malaysia 😃

There are many claypot foods in restaurants or food courts in the Mall but this one is quite traditional
Very traditional I loved it 😃
the small white piece is the salted fish lol
Wow that smells strong and taste like cheese 😄
