so nice, this one is really old! Just 2 days ago I was cleaning my Primus 70, after decades of being stored in my container... I`ve been using Primus stoves since childhood (boat and fisherman`s cabin) and I love that brass! (fine swedish craftmanship, like my knives and axes) You lucky, what a find! greetings from wild, wet, windy and wonderful Western Patagonia
Looks like a Svea 123/Optimus 80. Except they don’t have a handle. Received my first for Christmas ‘74. Used it camping and when I went to field in the Army. Finally had to retire it and buy a new one, because they changed the design slightly and could not buy a repaired kit for the old one. Made a lot of coffee and hot water for other beverages, heating rations and cleaning up. I still have both ,both work. Lot of good memories when I look at them.
I TURNED MINE INTO A PARRAFIN LAMP WITH WICK THRU THE HOLE...AFTER alot of tries it just burned like crap and was flaming up fireballs even if i changed the wick for a brand new one....no im not a fan, il stick to pressurized ones. Lost 2 days trying to get it to work.
Still waiting for part 2 where you give it a burns test, don't forget to make sure the tiny hole in the cap is not blocked, there is usually a lead washer inside the cap, so that if it gets over heated it will release the pressure out. You could try a svea 123 jet or a Jewel stove maybe an 8R think the first is worth trying.
Hi Mark, I'm thinking you would put a small amount of petrol in the little bowl and light it, as it heats up it would draw the petrol up to ignite the burner. Hope you find this helpful.
Hilary Sutton used fuel or alcohol paste in the cup. In cold weather there is a mini-pump that screws into the fill hole to pre-pressurize the tank. Have used down to -35 degrees in the field. God loves hot beverages when it gets that cold! Remember to keep the alcohol paste inside your shirt when it gets cold.

Thomas Knight what regiment were you in?
If u want to buy this so contact me i have also this and want to sell
I have also found 1939 primus 71, in similar conditions. Can't wait to restore.
That's rare. Made about 1928. The more common petrol stoves (71) have a key-operated valve, and an overpressure relief valve in the cap.

You put meths in the pre burner to heat the vaporizer, the fuel to use is paraffin, NOT petrol, lots of spares available on ebay.
Tidy
