1948 Tonka Toy Transport Semi Truck and Trailer Restoration COE Cab Over Engine 4K

- I purchased this 1948 Tonka Toy Transport Semi Truck and Trailer on eBay February of 2022 for a total of $127.12 after shipping. I was pleasantly surprised to find this 1948 Semi COE cab was the early model, the chassis did not have the center cut out like they did in late 1948, instead it had a welded in axle mount on the bottom. When I received this truck it was complete minus the tandem rear axle was missing. It appears that someone has repainted this one a couple times. After sandblasting I ended up having a rust hole in the cab and frame which had to be welded and smoothed out. This was the first truck that I've ever attempted to remake the tires on using rubber urethane casting into a nylon mold. For my first attempt I'm extremely happy with how they came out, however to avoid bubbles next time I will be using a pressure pot instead of a vacuum chamber. I made a few mistakes on this one, and if you look closely you'll be able to see. When doing the two tone roof, I messed up a little bit of the powder and had to use some touch up paint. With everything considered, I was extremely happy with the outcome of this restoration! Thank you for watching!
Had to reupload due to 4k processing issues.

Good morning everyone!!! This is a reupload from the video posted Sunday morning. The original had an issue processing the 4K version. I had to reupload this to fix the issue. Thank you for everyone's support!
Not a problem. Thank you so much for all the great videos. 💜
Verte trabajar es un lujo a la vista 👍👍
No problem, just happy 😁 to see a new video.
I hope you do the tank soon, that looked cool
any on train to restore?
I didn't know Tonka existed in '48.
...Remarkably involved, laborious, and expert. Magnifico!
Sandblasting and power washing. Two things I never tire of watching.
Does anyone watches this videos to fall asleep because they are so calming
Yep!!!! Put them on to go to bed LOL
No music, it's magic! And tha cat...❤
59:37 Your cat is obviously very well taken care of. Just look at her eyes - bright and shiny. She's not afraid to be touched and scratched at all. Good work on her too!
The rain makes it more asmr!
You are amazing how you bring the past to life again!!!!!! Sandy
My regards. Edit a 1 hour video so that the time flies by. It must have talent.
I'm so glad to see your Quality Assurance inspector is still working hard. 😆 Those tires!!! What more can I say... just blown away again. Thank you so much for being you!
I am very pleased with any thing, where there is not a single gram of plastic. Such things are eternal.
Great restoration. Please do the tank next. Would love to see your sheep driving that!
I agree. We had many old tonkas growing up but I have never seen that tank combination thing!
yes ... my thoughts exactly
As I said in the previous video, this truck had so many layers of paint that made the sandblasting specially enjoyable. Congrats for another great restoration!
Again, another great job approved by inspector kitty.
ESPECTACULAR TRABAJO ESOS SI ERAN JUGUETES ME TRANSPORTO A MI INFANCIA GRACIAS POR COMPARTIR SALUDOS DESDE COLOMBIA
Love love your restorations. Love your kitty bitty. But I miss the SHEEP! There's this huge trailer that could certain fit about 50 of them. It's your fault for making us love them, and everything else, as much as we do. Baa Baa Baaa!
The dark patches left behind after sand blasting is residual rust that was left behind. My OCD starts freaking out and I have to stop the video when he starts painting over it! 😂😂😂
Let's see......
Metal Smith, Body man, painter, CNC machinist, designer, mold maker, and dont forget Artist!!
I'm so inadequate 🤣
AMAZING GREAT JOB 👍💯 THOSE TOY TRUCKS HAD CLASS AND STYLE ALWAYS LOVE TONKA SINCE BEING A KID THEY WERE THE BEST✌️
The rain made it so much more wonderful to watch and listen!
I have grandsons that watch your channel totally fascinated...little hint: lube your hinge pins and clamp in an electric drill...you can spin them in or out...(slightly point the end of the pin...it will self-seek the next hinge joint...)
I just love watching the process and machinery to restore those toys many of which I played with and had as a child 🙃 born in 56'.
Making the tires was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
I did giggle a little hen you persisted trying to get the lever for the rear doors out in just the one direction. 😉
As usual, you knocked this out of the park and it was kinda nice to see that even pros sometimes struggle with silly little things. I did note that you figured out the easier way during reassembly. 😁
Awesome job!!! I just noticed the large train in the pile, that’s going to be amazing!!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your work is perfect, congratulations!
I grew up in Romania in the 1980s with tin toys of a similar design, although not nearly as cool, and I loved them. Great fun watching your videos.

Good night my friends
you did a great job restoring the semi trailer truck.
I have to say that you put a lot of dedication to the restoration of your toys
The sandblasting looks so relaxing. I could do it all day.
Oh, a new junkyard. I like it. 👍
The rims and tires are gorgeous 😍
I think this might be my favorite of your restorations!
Great Job!! It looks like new.
Sir, You are a master! When I need to relax, I watch one of your restorations. Thank you!
Love when the quality control approves your work at the end 💯🎉
Very cool restoration.....all of those tools and experience...cool
Excellent restoration!!.. looks better than she did when she left the Tonka Factory!!.. All ready to get back on the road!!
47:00 I knew he was manufacturing his own tires.☝😏
You are the best in restoring old toys I watch you every day even got wife and friends to subscribe.. David waters from fountain inn s.c. Keep up the good work brother
This was a hefty restoration involving all and the kitchen zink. Well done !!
Wow that's incredible.
What an amazing restoration, it turn out beautiful. Better than when it was first made. Loved all the sandblasting and powder coating you showed. The attention to the fine details make you the best restoration artist on UA-cam.
Yes goodnight

I'm diggin the JB weld body filler trick. I'm an actual semi truck mechanic and have used it to fix dash boards and panels and such. Would work on old fiberglass fenders with minor rock chips 🤔
This is better craftsmanship than the factory! You are a true artisan, sir!
Absolutely brilliant job friend, see you have got all the right gear to do it with also, have a nice day friend, Brian UK !!! .👍👍👍😀😃
Great job
You've got the COOLEST stuff!
FANTASTIC !! LOVE IT !!
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
Good morning from Virginia
Good morning! I had to reupload this one to get my 4k to process. should be better today.
I was wondering. But then agian wife says I am getting more forgetful lately.
Gorgeous
That sub recommendation on the blaster door.... pure class. The rest of youtube could learn from minds like yours. Great work keep it up.
The resto looks so amazing Chip it has to be seen in 4k. Totally understand the re-upload is a must. This Tonka turned out Mint buddy, well done! Added this to our favourite restorer video playlist. Thanks for sharing, Lee at Resto Dudes
Let's place Chip. At the TOP of the List (-:
Far and above any skill I have. That being said, I had a truck like this when I was a kid (several decades ago) and one thing you may have overlooked due to the missing parts are the raised bumps that hold the stand in the up position. A light amount of force upward to click in.
Amazing as always! I don't know what is cooler, the awesome transformations you do or all of the high tech awesome tools and machines you have! Crappy tires? No problem 👍 just gonna make new ones from scratch! Very cool, Chip!
Ooh ooh, the tank hauler!
Don't know how I missed this one, but really glad I found it. I have missed seeing your videos. This one had some tight fits.
Amazing transformation! Thanks for posting.
This is my therapy channel no talking just chill and be amazed
still LOVE sandblasting the most
I sure wasn't expecting molded rubber tires. Very cool.
Watched this video yesterday. You never cease to amaze me with your skills. Nicely done!
Thanks again! It had an issue with processing the 4K version of the video. I had to reupload to take care of it. Thank you soo much for watching!
@@ChipChannelRestorations I noticed that. I was thinking to myself, Chip Channel has really improved the video quality recently. Going to 4K60p lol
Hello, I really love what you're doing, bringing these toys back to life, frankly, it's great. See you soon 👍💪
This restoration is amazing it brings back memories of my childhood playing with tonka toys. I have been enjoying your channel and its content. 😀❤
😮АЛИБИ 🇰🇿
Watching out how I covered the roof of my car with amazing vinyl wrap - you'll love it!
59:10 Quality inspector.
Beau boulot ! Great job ! Paris, France.
Damn Chip,... You've really out-done yourself on this one.
It's absolutely beautiful.
Amazing job!!
another great resto!!!
Beautiful. Extremely relaxing to watch a master at work.
A Great great work, thank you for share.
We want more of your awesome tools included in future videos, please? This is my fav video of yours so far!
So nice and the kitty at the end was the icing on the cake. 🥰 Also, let’s not forget the poor sheep who succumbed to the giant cat attack. R.I.P. 😑
Watching the amount of rusty vehicles at the start of each of your videos it seems unlikely to me your channel will soon run out of new restoration projects.
Ooooooo,my God!!!!!!It’s beautiful job!!!Golden 🙌 hands!!!!Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!👍🙏👏
You never cease to amaze me with your ingenuity and talent, fantastic job
Thank you!!

These red trucks are very special, for important occasions. Like Coca-Cola trucks for example. When it comes to Christmas or in the summer, we see Coca-Cola trucks. Because as we all know that Coca-Cola is a Christmas product.
I'd recommend pressure casting your resin/rtv rubber parts as opposed to vacuum casting as the pressure compresses the air bubbles and makes them mostly invisible. Also, Smooth-On has a rubber that was developed for BF Goodrich for use in creating prototype tires that they would actually put on cars and test. I believe it was called Sooth Cast 12, but I think they changed the I.D. number.
I think that is one of the best job that you have done Very Nice Work 👌
Amazing. The tires alone was awesome. Not to mention the metal work.
That sand blaster thing looks like a lot of fun, I love watching it!
Loved it on Sunday...love it even more now! Well done, young man.... well done indeed!
Good collection 👍
Amazing Work
The tire making is cool
Awesome video Chip
This has become a magnlficent restoration. The making of missing or worn parts and the attention to detail shows that a skilled craftsman is working heren.
I enjoy seeing at work every time!
