  • The KOKONI EC1 is the smallest printer I have ever used, but it impressed me with getting it up and running in less than 2 minutes after unboxing. In this video I dig into the entirely app-driven 3d printing experience with this tiny printer. But while the printer may be tiny, it could pack a big punch. This could very well be a perfect holiday gift for children and beginners interested in 3D printing.

My son got this from his bio last year. I can’t even get it to work and I’ve tried to call them but the number on the unit I got didn’t work. I can connect it and everything start a print but it won’t actually print

By choosing this color of plastic ("natural") you chose not to show the quality of prints. Green one doesn't look OK with all the stripes.

I am pretty sure I would not have accepted this printer for a review.
It's price is through the roof compared to real functional 3d-printers and the filament price follows that principal.
For kids that will print a lot, the company made a goldmine.... For themself.
Feels like the XYZPrinting line of printers. A lot of money for a so called -out of the box experience-

It very much is like XYZPrinting, without the rfid chips in the cartridges. XYZPrinting eventually opened it up with their Pro lines, but by then it was too late.
I was very conflicted at first, but I think the app and first print experience is something that other manufacturers could learn from, and was worth sharing.
The way I think about it, for every kid that is printing enough to go through a few filament cartridges, how many more kids are there with a broken Ender 3 on the shelf, with a Cura install full of broken profiles with settings messed up? A premium on an entry level printer that let's certain non-technical people successful print could be justified. Until printers are all as user friendly as a household microwave, we will always have this split between technical and non-technical users.

Did Kokoni pay you for this video?

Like all of my reviews, they did not pay me for the review. But they did provide the printer for me to review.

Why is a printer that looks exactly the same for sale on the big A site without Kokoni name on it? Is this a white label product they bought rights to brand so they could pretend they had a product prior to the disastrous kickstarter campaign?

That is a very interesting observation. I do see the same, with a brand of XinDongWang selling a non-whitelabeled version of it. In the description it mentions using the KOKONI app and all the wifi setup is Kokoni. So quite possibly it is the other way around, with Kokoni also selling non branded units to other brands?
I am certainly no expert in Chinese corporations and subsidiaries. I would love to know the answer though.
