one minute you took me to an idyllic conservatory overlooking the Ashby and next we're 100 years after the apocalypse - now that's what I call a journey
I was going through a stressful day at the office and saw your latest video pop up. Thought... what a nice way to enjoy a 15 min break and received a POV view of relaxation. Well Done and Thank You!
Wonderful. You know if you keep spoiling us with v'log that both entertains us and relaxes us we're going to expect it all the time. I'm so jealous of whoever owns that house on the canal bend. weeping willows hanging down, smooth canal, water views, and a lovely home too. This is the second time I recall you followed a canal to it's end and both were worth the trip, in my opinion. Thank You for sharing.
I can't tell how much I enjoy these trips I'd never be able to experience without these wonderful journeys and such a warm and engaging moderator. My thanks and very best wishes.
Hi David, Excellent footage of the Ashby canal, lovely coverage as always. Before the local 'backlash' begins, and I'm sure I fall foul of this when I am not local to certain areas, the village in Leicestershire on the Ashby canal you visited in this vlog, namely Shackerstone, is pronounced by the locals as 'Sha - ker - stun'. Talking colloquialisms, if you forget something when you go out in Leicestershire, and need to return home to retrieve it you will hear the phrase, 'slatternipumferit' (obvious when you know that everything said in Leicester by the 'Chissits' is compressed - 'I shall have to nip home for it')... the joys of cruising and meeting folk.
I love these vlogs looking at the full screen it’s just as though I’m sitting on the bow. Fantastic. Mind you I did get a bit nervous when you speeded up, ha ha. Best wishes William
Hi David. The Ashby was our first venture out after we'd moved aboard, and although I love to "big up" our home canal (the cov), as you and many others have documented the cov is so heavily urban in places we kind of adopted the Ashby as our home stretch. Beautiful canal, wonderful cruising. We just love the place.
Please know how much your visits/journeys mean to me! I would love to join you during your visits, but realize it is impossible. I am so very thankful to be allowed to follow you during these adventures. You are so important to us during this times of isolation. You are such a blessing to me (Becky) and my family. To the moon and back!! Please keep these beautiful messages coming!
Wonderful on a stressful day. Please consider posting a "slow TV" version of the whole trip. I like to have them playing as I write in the morning. Cheers
I've considered that but three hours of 4K footage would render out to a 55GB file which would take literally hours to render and hours to upload. Unfortunately also there was some nasty buzzing on the sound at certain points (something resonating at certain engine revs) which rather spoils the recording too.
Finding myself in quarantine, I sought out something to help me pass the days until I can start working (from home) again. Your channel is dangerous, only because the number of times I've seriously considered moving to the UK and buying a narrowboat myself has increased. Thanks for making my isolation less lonely!
What a lovely piece of canal popped up right before I had lunch so I watched it during lunch and was able to even relax and chill and de-stress a little bit before going back to work thank you
Who on EARTH are these four people that gave this video a thumbs down!? Really? Really. Completely enjoyable, you’ve excelled yet again. The Ashby looks like a real treasure.
Honestly, I can imagine this as a lifetime mantra- "take the turns slowly and toot your horn on the very bad ones" Tis very good advice in all walks of life....
'the darling buds of May' As I am sure you know David. The white flowers on the trees are may flowers on the blackthorn trees/bushes. They bud during May, and burst into flower the first week in June, signaling the start of summer. Lovely vlog as usual, thanks.
Beautiful scenery, and getting the respect it deserved with no need for commentary; the imagery spoke for itself. I see why people have raved about this section of the canals.
With so many people living in towns and cities these days one forgets just how much beautiful open countryside there actually is on the little island of the UK. Can understand why you live on the boat :)
I have often wondered if England had any true wilderness left, but your videos have shown that there is a lot of the most beautiful countryside left anywhere, thanks to you and your videos. I don't know if the northern Scottish highlands count as wilderness. I could be thoroughly happy spending the rest of my life viewing that countryside. Thank you.
I've just discovered this channel and it's my new favorite channel - time to binge! I don't even live in the UK - I live in Pennsylvania, but I would love to be able to go cruising on some of the UK canals if I ever get to visit there. Thank you for sharing your life on the canal boat, it's a relaxing thing I like to watch now before bed.
Very nice video David. So that is what it is like when cruising the canals and not doing a vlog... nice and quiet. I kind of like just enjoying the view, but I do miss your commentary about the history of the canal you are on. Good luck in the future. 👍
Its quite strange i could never live on a narrowboat with my gammy leg but really love these vlogs been binge catching up since your start . Thanks for getting me out of the house for a wee while. xx
You should go and visit the battlefield at Bosworth. Fascinating place, important parts in the battle are well marked with explanation signs. Lovely piece of canal.
6:24 I love how a toot from the horn basically mean, "I can't see where I'm going or what's ahead but I'm going anyway" lol made me laugh to think about it those dramatic terms
David, thanks so much for numbering your vlogs. When I find a vlogger I really enjoy I watch the newest few vlogs, then I go to the oldest and binge watch from the first one. (Plus I try to watch all the adverts if I can). It makes it so much easier to follow when they are numbered. You do a great job.
absolutely beautiful. i have been watching for a few weeks. being inside me flat because of the virus. i enjoy these immensely. as long as i live i will remember that i was locked in watching Cruising the Cut. in years to come they will ask where where you. i will say i was in the UK on the cut. i raised my resolution to the max and that is where the stunning images come from
Very nice stereo blackbird sounds (and others) during the woody bit - if it wasn't dark outside now, I'd have thought it was coming through my window - good audio sir :o)
I love all of you VLOGS -- discovered them about two weeks ago and have now gone through all of them. I can't comment or like/dislike though as I watch them on my ROKU and that feature is not there. You said in one of the recent ones that you changed your mind about buying a new boat. I'm so happy to hear that. I thought you were crazy to get rid of the boat you have. You've put so much money into new parts, so much work cleaning the places we can't see and removing rust. Why buy another used boat and have to go through all of that again. If you do buy a new one one day it should be just that -- a brand new one! One question I have is when you use the word "pound" apparently referring to water. What does "pound" mean in this usage? Is it what we in the U. S. call a "pond."? Finally, I watched your Vandemonium VLOGS also -- I can't believe I could actually sit and watch you work on the van. I was totally surprised. I loved it and am amazed at the wonderful work you do -- so meticulously.
I haven't decided not to, I've just put it off for the moment as I don't have the money to get the boat I want and I wanted to go cruising. A pound in this context is just a large body of water between two locks.
Thank you so much for sharing, it made a dull evening into something quite interesting ( those are the words you would use) It’s got 59 unlikes!!!!! What the heck is to unlike ? I almost want to track them all down and ask,,,,, “ What’s to dislike “ 👍😄📐🔨
One of your most beautiful cruises. We were in your part of the world at this time last year. Just gorgeous. Thanks for your great videos. We watch them all!
I watch your videos because of the nature you show, quit speeding thru, were not bored its lovely :) by the way I'm in California, I watch these on my large screen tv, its gorgeous, thank you, very well done.
Lovely video, but , part of the cursing experience is the sound of the engine and sounds in general. The camera in the bow is right ON. My suggestion is for a camera in the pilots station on a tall mast, easy enough to put the Audio from it into the video. I think it would be super.
A tall mast would get ripped off every time I go under a bridge so not practical. The handheld camera at the back picks up the engine noise, the one at the front us true to how it sounds there.
This video is so incredibly peaceful that I'm starting to think all kinds of hippie shit about becoming one with the canals and the reeds and the waterfowl in the afterlife, amen
Marvellous video. It surely is a gorgeous canal, just moor the boat, sit on the deck, sipping a nice mug of tea, and listen to nature. Think you might hear the grass grow. Pure top class bliss.
Channels like yours (in my opinion) is what UA-cam is all about, such a pleasure to watch, always look forward to your notification pop-up.
Yep! I love the way we get to be there, cruising the cut. Might be fun to hear from old timers; their tales.
one minute you took me to an idyllic conservatory overlooking the Ashby and next we're 100 years after the apocalypse - now that's what I call a journey
Ah, but he didn't take you to Mordor, which is where Minimalist went at the end of the Asby... it really has something for everyone
Never tire of your vlogs and eloquent & witty commentary 👍👍👍👍👍
Your vlog has become my safe place and guilty pleasure during these trying times... so relaxing, so much beauty... please continue...
I was going through a stressful day at the office and saw your latest video pop up. Thought... what a nice way to enjoy a 15 min break and received a POV view of relaxation. Well Done and Thank You!
What a nice and quiet cruise. Thanks for inviting us along! Until next time, and it is good to see you back on the cut.
Wonderful. You know if you keep spoiling us with v'log that both entertains us and relaxes us we're going to expect it all the time. I'm so jealous of whoever owns that house on the canal bend. weeping willows hanging down, smooth canal, water views, and a lovely home too. This is good blood pressure reducing stuff David, thanks for bringing to us.
Not many videos warrant full screen viewing, but yours almost always do. This one is no exception.
I agree, my roommate is playing Destiny, So I'll have to to that after he goes to sleep . love the Vid's Full Screen !!!
I walk the Ashby canal most evenings around the shenton area with my dog love it
!
the goslings don't yet have a Canadian accent ;)
Love your voice-over videos. I know they are a lot more work, but they are worth it. At least to me. Thank you.
I can't tell how much I enjoy these trips I'd never be able to experience without these wonderful journeys and such a warm and engaging moderator. My thanks and very best wishes.
Glad you like them!
Serenity, beautiful willow, a swan and no crowds; this was a lovely cruise, thank you for the chuckle!
The bird notes are so relaxing - wake me up before you leave.
I kept looking for Rat and Mole having a picnic on the bank under that willow.
"Mucking about in boats."
Aww ^_^

Beautiful cruise. Thank you. With your channel I always click the Like button before I even begin watching.
This looks like the most beautiful stretch of canal you've ever filmed, David. I'd love to do an up and back on the Ashby!
Your interpretation of the thought process of a swan was top notch.
I love these vlogs looking at the full screen it’s just as though I’m sitting on the bow. Fantastic. Mind you I did get a bit nervous when you speeded up, ha ha. Best wishes William
7:20 "ah new recruits to the mounties" absolutely killed me thanks
Thanks for letting me cruise the Ashby from the comfort of my armchair!
Absolutely beautiful stretch of canal! Outstanding vlog as usual.

simply do it i pray for it
The Ashby IS remarkably beautiful, and in your VLOGS, serene and soothing and captivating. Thanks for the tour-guiding!
Thank you from the U.S., Washington State. I absolutely love your videos. Great voice, also!
Honestly, I can imagine this as a lifetime mantra-
"take the turns slowly and toot your horn on the very bad ones"
Tis very good advice in all walks of life....
good evening, good weather, beautiful views, quiet on the canal, very good trip, you are filled, vlog of great beauty
I’m sooo envious of you being able to take your time on the canals and really show us all the beauty of G.B. along the canals .
'the darling buds of May' As I am sure you know David. The white flowers on the trees are may flowers on the blackthorn trees/bushes. They bud during May, and burst into flower the first week in June, signaling the start of summer. Lovely vlog as usual, thanks.
Love your vlogs. So down to earth. Beautiful.
Enjoying going through the backlog of your vlogs leisurely, two vlogs a day! One early morning and the other at end of day.
Thank you!
Gorgeous scenery, so peaceful. Great viewing Dave! 👍🏼😎
Another great vlog. I look forward to these every day. Your Vlogs are simultaneously inspiring and relaxing. Thank you, again.
Beautiful scenery, and getting the respect it deserved with no need for commentary; the imagery spoke for itself. I see why people have raved about this section of the canals.
Absolutely beautiful. I aagree, one of the best canals on the system. A wonderful video - thank you very much David for taking me along.
Hi David just to let you know that I very much appreciate your vlogs. The photograghy is excellent
I LOVE Brits. Blessings from Wisconsin, and thank you for teaching me English!! I rejoice that I did not grow up speaking any other.
Why you have 30 dislikes I have absolutely no idea! What a beautiful part of the country, thanks for taking us with you.
I noticed the same thing. Always about 30
WOW! that was peaceful. I almost fell asleep.
With so many people living in towns and cities these days one forgets just how much beautiful open countryside there actually is on the little island of the UK. Can understand why you live on the boat :)
I think this might be my favorite part of the canal. Beautiful views and no locks!
Thank you David. So relaxing to watch and your commentary is excellent. Keep em coming.
Some of the fields especially the ones with animals❤️ but that one stretch @9:10 beautiful trees and a bird party! Man I cant wait! ❤️ 🏴
As a Canadian, loved your Canadian geese
comment.
Figured you would've pointed out that they're Canada geese, not Canadian geese. But then, Canadians are ever so polite!
That really is a beautiful stretch! And as usual you have the grace to allow us to hear the beauty as well❣️
I have often wondered if England had any true wilderness left, but your videos have shown that there is a lot of the most beautiful countryside left anywhere, thanks to you and your videos. I don't know if the northern Scottish highlands count as wilderness. I could be thoroughly happy spending the rest of my life viewing that countryside. Thank you.
This was a very pleasant journey.
Thanks for taking us along.
Getting used to your glasses and presentation now - full of detail as one would expect from a top journalist!Well done,Thank you very much.
Very nice video David. So that is what it is like when cruising the canals and not doing a vlog... nice and quiet. I kind of like just enjoying the view, but I do miss your commentary about the history of the canal you are on. Good luck in the future. 👍
What a lovely ride David. Just the right amount of cruising & 5 x speed. I'm all relaxed now thank you,
Chris from Missouri
That's cool so am I.. but I am not retired. . Cheers!
Absolutely beautiful, love your comments.
So beautiful it looked surreal. The water was like glass.
Marvellous!
I didn't see the ducks in the tunnel though....
Fair play, David. That does look gorgeous.
absolutely sensational views!
Such a beautiful canal, thank you for another outstanding VLOG.
A video of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Thank you I spent a few days with cousins on their narrow boat - sheer bliss.
6:24 I love how a toot from the horn basically mean, "I can't see where I'm going or what's ahead but I'm going anyway" lol made me laugh to think about it those dramatic terms

..and I'm listening with earbuds in, stereo birdsong and gorgeous images...perfect 😃
I had to stop and check myself!
The vlog was so peaceful, I nearly fell asleep during it. Very peaceful, David.A wonderful adventure.
I wish we had those kind of canals here in the U.S.
As always a first rate video. Thanks again.
Pure magic All that SPEED and no wake LOL
That was extremely enjoyable...! I hear the cut calling me! Too bad I'm in the USA...
Peacefully making my way through your Vlog series.... albeit backwards lol!
A most pleasant way to spend 15 minutes..bliss!!

Yes .. pound = English
pond=. American
So soothing. (except for the tunnel...yikes!) Very happy you cruised the Ashby and took us with you. Thanks for the lovely and calming video.
Thank you so much for sharing, it made a dull evening into something quite interesting ( those are the words you would use)
It’s got 59 unlikes!!!!! What the heck is to unlike ? I almost want to track them all down and ask,,,,, “ What’s to dislike “ 👍😄📐🔨
Really beautiful part of the canal. Thanks so much for sharing. Well done.
Love it! Colour me liked and subscribed, greetings from San Francisco, California.
Welcome along!
One of your most beautiful cruises. We were in your part of the world at this time last year. Just gorgeous. Thanks for your great videos. We watch them all!
The Tourist Board should be paying you!
And so should public television in both England and America
Nice canal, it will keep your piloting skills in fine form.
Cheers
Very lovely :)
I watch your videos because of the nature you show, quit speeding thru, were not bored its lovely :) by the way I'm in California, I watch these on my large screen tv, its gorgeous, thank you, very well done.
7:52 bug on the cam! Omg!
Gorgeous and peaceful. Thank you for taking us, all the way from Maryland in the USA!!
So idyllic, I lack words.
What can I say? Beautifully done as usual CTC, and very informative. Thank you.

@@CruisingTheCut Sorry i caught you in a bad mood.
No bad mood, I just answered your comment.
Very nice. Thanks for sharing, David.
This video is so incredibly peaceful that I'm starting to think all kinds of hippie shit about becoming one with the canals and the reeds and the waterfowl in the afterlife, amen
I know, I'm a beach loving Aussie bloke in my early 30s and I want to now go off grid on a narrowboat in rainy old England. It looks great.
Marvellous video.
It surely is a gorgeous canal, just moor the boat, sit on the deck, sipping a nice mug of tea, and listen to nature.
Think you might hear the grass grow.
Pure top class bliss.
wish we had something like this in the states
I think you may have, Google us canals.
Thank you from the far south of Western Australia...your vlog is wonderful.🇦🇺🇬🇧
How could the marina own any mooring space on the tow path side? Do they lease it from the CRT and if so are the responsible for the upkeep?
Good questions to which I don't have the answers
Just woke up and grabbed a cup of tea to find this wonderful vlog you left dave on youtube which was a pleasant surprise.
