There's also a side note to the French/Mexican fight over it. Every year, the Mexican Navy goes out and raises a Mexican flag over the island. Later in the year, the French Navy visits, takes down the flag, and replaces it with their own. The fight is still going on!

What about a geographics on Silimodo island in South Korea that had a camp set up for a death squad tasked with killing Kim il Sung? They ended up escaping the island as they were abused constantly and their assassination mission cancelled, a bus full of them in Seoul was involved in a shootout with grenades, some of them killed themselves then and there. 6 survived and were all tortured and executed. I think they were essentially not allowed to leave the camp on the island, when the mission was cancelled they had a mutiny.

He established man-made climate change in the 1800s, layed the ground work for modern meteorology, created biogeography, and more. He spent a total of ~6 non-consecutive months in Cuba, but is considered a national hero there for cataloguing all the indigenous wildlife and making recommendations that revolutionized their agriculture. He is also considered to be the last person to possess the totality of known human knowledge for his time, the last true polymath.

Hi Simon! I love your videos on both biographics and geographics. This story of a forgotten atoll is very similar to the island where I grew up. There’s an atoll that is part of the marshal islands where they test out misiles. It’s called Kwajalein. While I left too early in my life to know the full history. I found out it used to be owned by the Japanese in ww2. Maybe you could do a video on it! 😄

low water mark of the coast of a teritorry. Though I have not researched if any valuable resources (including fishes) are present, it definitely has some use for France.
