I'm 57 years old and a music lover of all genres, so it's pretty bizarre to have Julie London fly under my radar until tonight. I know I've heard the name, but never paid attention to the talent. Unbelievable stylings...and one of the most sensual female voices i've ever heard. Better late than never on appreciating her music.
+Mike Baluja Being 15 your senior I remember Julie early on and she remains one of favorite singers. I still go my old ragged "Julie is her name" album and it is still my favorite with a nice clear cuts. Barney Kessel, a great jazz guitarist, was brilliant in providing back up that allowed her voice to come through with a nice clean sound. I crank up her music often. I'm glad you discovered Julie.
Interesting you never heard of her. Didn't you watch Emergency back in the 70s? She was a cast member. That's how I knew her back then. I'm 49 now. As a kid that show was my fave show. Her husband and hipster jazz song writer and performer, Bobby Troup was also part of the cast.
Yes, those "late in life" discoveries are delicious. I joined the Soft Tempo Lounge group on Facebook and found many there too - unfamiliar artists that I should have known...
+Peak Planet Yeah, but Ms. London gives him a run for his money. She adds a sultriness to the tune that was beyond Morrison. And I say that being a huge Doors fan.
Lyrics You know that it would be untrue You know that I would be a liar If I was to say to you Girl, we couldn't get much higher Come on baby light my fire Come on baby light my fire Try to set the night on, fire The time to hesitate is through No time to wallow in the mire Try now we can only lose And our love become a funeral pyre Come on baby light my fire Come on baby light my fire Try to set the night on, fire yeah The time to hesitate is through No time to wallow in the mire Try now we can only lose And our love become a funeral pyre Come on baby light my fire Come on baby light my fire Try to set the night on, fire yeah You know that it would be untrue You know that I would be a liar If I was to say to you Girl, we couldn't get much higher Come on baby light my fire Come on baby light my fire Try to set the night on fire Try to set the night on fire Try to set the night on fire Try to set the night on fire
Wow! what great album covers they capture the essence of the era of the 60's, It in itself is pure art as much as a Picasso is pure art! Julie's version of this song shows how sensual a woman can interpret a song that till then had been done only by male singer.
Julie London after being a singer appeared on the tv show Medical Center along side her future husband Bobby Troup. She played the head nurse. She was truely a sultry singer with that voice and figure she could command a room.
Great voice, great interpretation. And fine fotos from the sexy sixties... Our modern, prudish, politically correct times seem all the more deplorable watching this.
well Julie is truly hot. nice background music and orchestration. you don't get that in pop music today .i know most of those album pics were not of Julie. some of those other females who are grannies today are really hot too.
@CanadaguyRudey If the TV nurse looked like (or is) Julie London it's not only possible, I'd say it's a great learning experience (what you learn only you could define for yourself, but it's usually a good thing). Julie;s version of "Yummy Yummy Yummy" certainly makes me think of more than sweets...
I'd imagine a large part of Julie London's listening audience just doesn't get the beauty of a Vox transistor organ...I'm lucky, I get both, but of course Jim Morrison and Julie London could have done an awesome duet no doubt about it!
Whoever can’t get their fires lighted up enough, have a listen to Julie’s version of Yummy Yummy Yummy - here on UA-cam. It might put a coupla things in yer tummy that not even a son of a preacher man could think of.
I work at a place where we get a lot of older men in as customers. If I had a nickel for every time they used the term "light my fire" to flirt with me, I'd be reasonably pocket-change rich. I always wondered what they were referring to, until now.
Does this tune have to do with that TV show about firefighters? It would, er, coincide somewhat. Which is why it sounds so parodic on a Shatner scale with that Lucy in the Sky thing he did. I defy anyone who claims Nurse Dixie is sexier sounding than the Lizard King! Chauvinist of me? Nah! I happen to think Zooey Deschanel would've done a better cover than Julie, but that's just me.

I am a singer and Julie London and India Adams are two of my biggest influences. Lucky me!
Interesting you never heard of her. Didn't you watch Emergency back in the 70s? She was a cast member. That's how I knew her back then. I'm 49 now. As a kid that show was my fave show. Her husband and hipster jazz song writer and performer, Bobby Troup was also part of the cast.

James Gretsch I totally forgot she was in Emergency!! I haven't seen that program in a while.-. loved it ^.^
She's setting my mind body and soul on fire
her tone of voice is like like soft midnight kisses up my spine
She has a beautiful voice, and I like how she does a song in a totally new and different way.
Starr Lara Her version of this song is sort of like Jose Feliciano's.
+Peak Planet Yeah, but Ms. London gives him a run for his money. She adds a sultriness to the tune that was beyond Morrison. And I say that being a huge Doors fan.
This is my first time hearing this! Oh my. I love this. Julie London covering the Doors is something else!
I lover her version of Yummy Yummy Yummy also. She took a bubble gum rock song and hit it out of the park
I discovered Julie a few years back and never stopped listening to her most lovely voice since.
DAMN , beautiful to hear this in female version beside the doors version, really loved it 😍😍💓😘👌👏
Lyrics
You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby light my fire
Come on baby light my fire
Try to set the night on, fire
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby light my fire
Come on baby light my fire
Try to set the night on, fire yeah
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby light my fire
Come on baby light my fire
Try to set the night on, fire yeah
You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby light my fire
Come on baby light my fire

Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire
beautiful voice

By far the best cover of this.
I love female smooth voices,
she is on my top 5 list.
Amazing and elegant :)
Julie London is surely best voice ever.
Usually don't like covers but this is the fucking best!
never heard this version before Thank you you tube
Wonderful Julie …..
I love Julie London!
Exquisite.
wow just discovered Julie London awesome
I love pleasant, soft, sensual low female vocals!
Julie a fantastic woman 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Its the Girls that floated this tune to its new level in jazz standards And this is one of the versions Brilliant !!
Most if not all of her covers were more famous than the originals.
Beautiful Lp/Vinyl cover images to go along with a very splendid yummy version of this classic by the lovely Julie London😍. A definite like🤗
One of my mothers favourite singers from the 50"s
Julie London after being a singer appeared on the tv show Medical Center along side her future husband Bobby Troup. She played the head nurse. She was truely a sultry singer with that voice and figure she could command a room.
Lovely.
THIS is how the Doors thought they sounded........and didn't. Julie London lit my fire years ago, and it's still burning.
Wonderful cover, but it's honestly a lot easier to go back and touch up someone else's painting than it is to actually know how to paint.
She knew how to paint her voice
Just heard this one on cable. Jim would be proud. SV
This sure beats the shit out of The Doors version! ;-)
This is the 60s baby!
Call me crazy but I dig this more than the original.
Jose Feliciano does a great job on this song also
Amazing! A Doors tune slowed down.
So cool creature
Sublime. :)
Thanks!
Almost like this more than the original!
wow , fell like I need a coconut rhum cocktail
Great
I'll never watch Emergency the same way again.
Me either
Great voice, great interpretation. And fine fotos from the sexy sixties... Our modern, prudish, politically correct times seem all the more deplorable watching this.
lovelovelove
Mr. Morrison, you have met your match.
well Julie is truly hot. nice background music and orchestration. you don't get that in pop music today
.i know most of those album pics were not of Julie. some of those other females who are grannies today are really hot too.
Bring it on Girl. that was Great she should have replaced Jim Morrison as the Doors lead singer after Jim Died!
That would have been something.. After all, she was old enough to be mother to all of the Doors (except Ray maybe)
Repeat, repeat, repeat.......
Amen!
But damn, those old record covers were fugking SEXY ❗😎
Awesome version, sultry , sexy, phwoarr

Ameeei!
Beats hell out of the Doors version. Almost as good as Jose Feliciano's.
The Doors version has other sense & charm, dude
SHE WAS DIXIE N HAS BEEN IN THE MOVIES SINCE THE 40s,SHE STARRED N WAS THE HOTTIE WITH JIMMIE STEWART IN MAN OF THE WEST 1953 OR SO
!!!!!
Julie London sang "Mighty Quinn" ???
Now I have to try and find THAT.
@grooverunner Just saw her in The Fat Man movie and she was great.
♥
So now I'm picturing Julie and Jimmy in a duet.
And later 'in a duet' 😎❗
You could be right there... But...Don't forget Erma Franklin's version. There are versions out there, by people who shouldn't have bothered.

I know what you mean...............................hun.
I got the matches if you got the kindling, Amber be-be
Yeah babe when you do a cover is to KICK ASS!!!!!
Prozac version
SHE WAS ALSO MARRIED TO JACK WEBB AND BOBBY TROUPE
Was it Ray and Robby Krieger? I'm pretty sure it wasn't Densmore.
strepitosa

A Del Griffith original
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥👑👑👑👑❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
CRAZY !!! Ok it's a great cover but the original is just the better song ever written and performed.
Did she take a tranquilizer before she sang?
Nah bro, back then people WERE that relaxed.
Nice Point. I wonder how old she is now.
Let’s see... she was born September 1926 and passed away in the Year 2K.
Hadn’t she left the Planet, she’d be 91 right now…
My favorite singers for Light My Fire are:
1.Jim Morrison and the Doors
2.Julie London
3.Jose Feliciano
4.My Cousin? * kidding
Did she cover any other rock songs like this?
i hope not
TheJudgeraye Why not? This is great!
Could this be the top version of this song, better than Shirley Bassey? maybe, I think so.
Nice try at a good song
nice version but still inferior to the original , not only vocally but absolutely instrumentally.
Jim Morrison did it MUCH better.
