What Is the Purpose of Crochet? Why Was It Invented?

Let's talk crochet history!
The first documented form of crochet was in 1812, and by 1823 the first crochet patterns were published in a magazine from The Netherlands. By the 1840s, crochet lace was developed in France, and was later adopted in Ireland and dubbed "Irish Lace" due to the popularity that it gained. In the 1900s many Irish people immigrated to the US and crocheting began to evolve. By the 1960s is was extremely popular and the granny square became the main crochet look! Currently, crocheting remains popular and continues to evolve.
