Group B cars that came after were significantly less powerful but new generation of drivers worked on driving finesse and soon post faster times than Group B. Great vid mate. Absolute poetry.
That car bothers me in Assetto Corsa. It doesn't really have competition given the other two DTM cars are Group A cars (btw, how has AC been out this long yet there are only two Group A cars including mods?) and the Opel Calibra mod is an ITC car from the 95-96 season which is *much* faster. Of course, cars without competition is common in both AC and rF2.

Awesome video man. Watching your videos is what got me into sim racing. I'm waiting for my G920 to come so I can get to work on my sim rig. Love your videos man, keep em coming.
The understeer mainly comes from the unfavorable weight distribution, due to the engine being in front of the front axle. The same problem all Audis have to this day, unfortunately.
Funny enough: inorder to effectively turn the S1 around an corner u would need to brake with your left foot, to give the front wheels more weight and grip, then u flick around that steering wheel, while pushing and playing with the throttle (and brake) constantly to keep that Turbo charged up and to get those faster exits. Oh and dont forget that this was all made inorder to not have to down-shift during, before or after the turn. Fun fact: Walter Röhrl needed 3 Audi S1s to master that technique. Just watch the footwork of Röhrl
You describe the driving technique exactly. But on a race track you have no turbo lag. When steering into a curve at the exactly right moment, it is enough to get off the accelerator quickly so that no understeer occurs. As soon as the car yaws into the curve, full throttle. I learned both techniques with my first Quattro. At this time when Audi first brought the Quattro I had two Quattros with these mechanical differential locks. Hard to learn to accelerate instead of speeding out.
Awesome video Jimmy. The 3rd person video should be a permanent addition. Also loving the "driven like an absolute pleb" comment! 😂 I'm dying. 👍 👍 👍

Hi, young group B lover here. Just bumped into your videos Jimmy, and wow. I cant deice if Im watching you driving, our your heeltoe technique, so amazing. Just gonna leave a few things I think are kinda ridiculous about this car. Official highest BHP was 590 (Rally Finland, 1985). Stiq Blomqvist said, that S1 E2 produced short-term horspower arround 1000BHP at the test. There are also rumours (dunno if its true) that in the car, there was a button that made turbo produce bigger PSI, so car was close to 1000HP. The bodykit that E2 used was producing 500KG downforce (the fuck, in 80's?!) Walter Rohrl said this "With this car, you have to think two corners ahead...finding the correct balance betweet a decent pace and outright speed was a big challenge." He gave the E2 its only WRC win at the 85 Sanremo Rally. Reall horsepower of this car is rumored somewhere arround 600-700HP. Michele Mouton stated, that quattro could spin wheels in every gear, crazy to imagine. Pikes-peak version of quattro had 1000KGs, and 600hp officialy. But PP version had very larger supercharger (K28..) so insiders of that era claimed, that this car was close to thousand horsepower. Then, Walter himself said, that car had 750HP. Before group B ban, there was already new evolution in works, it was basically mid engined audi sport quattro. You can find some black and white pictures in google by searching "audi sport quattro S2". Fun fact - this car, alongside sport quattro and S1 E2 was tested few kilometers away from me! :)
To update, it has limited slip torsen differentials all around. They work by gears, allowing the wheels to turn at different speeds, but not for one wheel to stip completely.

I love the detail in assetto corsa! They left the writing on the track and everything!
And those cuts! I think that is where the advantage was.
"what ever we are a rally car, it's allooooowed!"
Insane man!
It was not the first four wheel drive but this is the ultimate evolution of the car that was the first to use this technology.
The understeer mainly comes from the unfavorable weight distribution, due to the engine being in front of the front axle. The same problem all Audis have to this day, unfortunately.
Take a drink every time jimmer says *UNDER-STEER*
Loving those 4wd turbo slides
Dude! Your videos are gold! Really enjoying them! New to assetto Corsa so your videos are an inspiration!
Braaappp tsutsutsuuu, braaap 😂😂😂 You got to love that five cylinder turbo howl with all of the flutterinos 😍 Great video Jimmer! 👍
The bodykit that E2 used was producing 500KG downforce (the fuck, in 80's?!)
Walter Rohrl said this "With this car, you have to think two corners ahead...finding the correct balance betweet a decent pace and outright speed was a big challenge." He gave the E2 its only WRC win at the 85 Sanremo Rally.
These are my new favourite videos, absolute quality 🙏
im really impressed that you can comment and still go that fast round the track in that 600bhp tram
That thumbnail just invites senseless comments. Thank God we know you're a straight up guy
I had a beer with Stig once. He said that the car was a hell of a handful, but a hell of a lot of fun. Aim for the closest meter he said haha.
To update, it has limited slip torsen differentials all around. They work by gears, allowing the wheels to turn at different speeds, but not for one wheel to stip completely.
Audi was actually one of the heaviest cars. If you look at the Peugeot or Lancia the power/weight ratio is even crazier.
Impressive lap. Well done! Sloppy at times sure, but you kept it pointed and moving in the right direction for a good time.
