Can I point out that two of the media you used as examples (Avatar: The Last Airbender and Percy Jackson) had horrible live-action movies with fandoms demanding that they be remade to be better represented. Now that those kids are adults, they have decided to take matters into their own hands. And since many of those adults have children now, they are also trying to spread their childhood to their offspring. Which also plays into this nostalgia movement. What I'm saying is that you did an excellent analysis, but you missed a key factor or two that also pushes your point.
That's fair! I'm sure that definitely affects those properties in particular. It would be interesting to compare and contrast the way that nostalgia is functioning for media that had disappointing adaptations versus those that were generally well received. Thanks for watching!
I can understand wanting a accurate adaptation of a beloved book series, but "The Last Airbender" used its medium to its full potential. So why deviate from that aspect?
@@sxatcychan1988 I The TV show did reach its full potential, but once the live-action movie came out, the fandom was devastated but also realized that there was something they wanted. They wanted to see what a good live-action adaptation would look like. It is the same concept as all the live-action adaptations of old Disney movies.
Don't forget millennials though. Now that they're in Their 30s and even starting into their 40s there's nostalgia for their young adulthood. In your early 20s you are nostalgic for being a child because "Adulting is hard" but then in your 30s and 40s you have nostalgia for your young adulthood. Nostalgia for what you watched as a college kid for example. So this late 200s early 2010s nostalgia brings millennials and zoomers together. The hunger games were at the end of my youth and the beginning of gen z's youth.
I disagree. I was born in 1991, don't compare me to zoomers. I don't like the 2010s at all. I do miss 2000-2003 because of good underground music and radio station Power 612. but the 2010s sucked.
Did I have weird parents or did we just grow up on this, too? We're old, now. Ofc we miss being young and having fantastic media. Cmon. We got handed RIVERDALE. New media ain't it.
It's probably coz of the millenials. Or more accurately, the zillenials=late millenials/early gen Zers. Coz 8 year olds weren't reading Twilight, Hunger Games and Percy Jackson in mid 2000s. The preteens were. The so called 90s kids. And by 2010s where the YA movie adaptations were in full swing/peak, the zillenials were the teens on tumblr fostering their respective fandoms. ATLA was also imo a millenial/zillenial media rather than Gen Z media in terms of fandom.
Oh there's definitely some crossover for sure - but I kind of went with Gen Z overall since most people currently in their twenties and late teens are Gen Z and that's the group I see being nostalgic! (Especially since it's my perspective as someone who is Gen Z). Thanks for watching!
yeah i think nostalgia cycles definitely have a lot of overlap with the lack of new ip, both in that companies would rather bank on a 'sure bet' over taking a chance on something new & people never getting to see new ip and therefore participating more in the nostalgia cycles. people are gonna be nostalgia-ing about the early mcu in a few years while they're putting out howard the duck 3 and it's gonna be ridiculous Anyway yeah i mean that people get so invested in these kinds of renaissances in part because the media market is so boiled down to such few properties from such few companies with little original work, and also so many original works are trying to be the next big hit franchise anyway. but i agree i think companies are taking advantage of pre-existing cultural trends, as they usually do.
Happy New Year!!!! Yeah. I find how unbelievable it is that so many people are feeling nostalgic. You really can’t help it. Even though I don’t like Twilight lol

to be fair, pjo and atla had really terrible live action remakes, and fans were clamoring for pjo to have a revive remake
Also, the streaming series is more accessible than the full Lightning Thief musical.

I’m glad Percy Jackson & The Olympians & Avatar: The Last Airbender finally got faithful adaptations!
the 2010s were our childhood decade & it's MILES better than now!! take me back to 2015

Idk as a 15 year old I grew up with these things since I have older siblings. All three of these are literally my favorite things ever.

Now I'm waiting for the renaissance of the maze runner

@@theunreliablenarratorshow I can't wait for people stanning Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Dylan O'Brien again 😭😭😭
Not Marvel just randomly catching strays 😭
Percy as Fire? like, REALLYY!?
it was random lol . i didnt even realize that i'd accidentally put The Last Airbender for the air portion until i was editing XD
Before I watched this I watched the stop drop and pray video for percy jackson. I can confirm that the nostalgia is really bad this year.
