Absolutely incredible. Romita proves once again that he is easily one of the greatest comic book artists of all time, and definitely THE greatest at drawing faces. I've seen him do sketches like this in person, and the ease and total mastery with which he does them is STAGGERING.

Roy Thomas said in an interview that's here on YT that John is probably the third most important Marvel artist after Ditko and Kirby. That's great praise indeed.

I was at this convention and due inpart to my wonderful mother and how well she can talk her way into and out of any sitiation i had lunch with John and his wife that day... we went to the pizza place in that mall right down from the con... I still have the sketch he made for me...

I loved how he entertained the kid while he drew for him. He is such a nice guy.

Awesome Silver Surfer drawn by a comic book legend. It was this same year at San Diego Con, that Mr. Romita drew me a classic half Peter Parker/ half Spider-Man face. To this day I still have it matted and framed with pride upon my wall. If you ever read this, "thank- you" , Mr. Romita. You have, and always will be, the definitive Spider-Man artist of all-time. God Bless.

The genius still has it! And carries on a nice conversation with a youthful youngster at the same time

it's stunning how it goes from a fairly standard model head... then the thicker ink brought the darker nature to the Surfer.. Romita Sr. legend aged 92 strong!

His son changed his style drastically. His earlier art was better but never as good as his dad..

This is the different of those artists and the ones today. Artists like RomitaSR only cared to make the art speak for itself. Nowadays? Its like a soap opera running around of burned bridges and internet attacks.
I enjoy some of the art toay, but its with artists of he caliber of RomitaSR that one actually learns something.

@jesubono Well I suppose that would depend on your definition of "admired." I don't think there ARE a lot of admired writers today in general but there are certainly some brilliant ones out there. Which "admired" modern writers would you consider "jokes?"

@jesubono Dude, most of those old characters are still around and most of the old writers that are still working today have turned into a joke.

@jesubono For me Marvel is dead since Marvel Comics were bankrupt and reopened as just Marvel. Back in the day when i had no Internet, i was watching Spider-Man movie and first thing i noticed was the absence of Comics word, so it was just Marvel. I thought - WTF???
