We've been living off the grid , in the forest on a mountain for 24 years, and counting. We are 63 and 60, and I'm a former army nurse. We have no neighbors for at least 6 miles. Raised by grandparents who taught me so much. We would be perfectly fine for a good 24 months, 18 months if grandchildren and at least one of our grown children show up. We have our own spring and a pond, solar, root cellar, spring house, and great Illy and lavazza italian espresso coffees.

I thought the Vietnam era was bad. Watching my schoolmates graduate and be drafted and shipped off to war. But the hatred between people was never this bad. My heart cries for all of us. My group of friends and i have been working together to purchase what we can and canning it up. My garden was not the best this year but got some to can and freeze. Heading to farmers market this weekend for corn and beans. 2 of the guys are building a chicken coop in my backyard and a chicken tractor. One for egg layers and tractor for meat birds only. They're all close enough to help with feeding and processing. I have the largest yard so we have a community garden here and containers at all their houses. We're going to make it together.

The other day I reached out to a friend whom I hadn't spoken to in a few years. Someone we used to work with whom she was much closer to had passed, and left her as one of her beneficiaries. She told me our friend had a basement full of emergency prep food and she started to speak about it like she was crazy. I said, "NO! You need to take it home and keep it!" I explained to her that something as simple as a solar flare or sabotage could knock the grid down, extreme weather issues, etc. I told her I am not a SHTF type of person, but after living in earthquake country and watching Hurricane Katrina (remember that?) we need to be prepared. I talked her into keeping the food and told her she needs to stock up on water and pet food. Another person will now be ready! Win.

In the 70s my mother-in-law told me a story passed down in her family memories. She told me always be ready to make it for 2 years That's what I've tried to do. Mama always said at least from garden to garden. It's not prepping or hoarding, it's just being able to take care of your family.

I am 63 years old. When I was 18 my mom told me to have 1 month of funds in my checking account to take care of unexpected. My zero balance in my account throughout my adult like was $500.00 at all times. I'm so grateful for the knowledge she passed down to her children. My husband was on commission most of our married life so I have learned long ago how to prep for the unexpected. One sale a week you'll be surprised how fast that adds up. Yesterday I discovered that our local library is having a free class on when to pick your produce whether in the garden or at the farmers market and they're going to show different ways of preserving it from pickling to dehydrating to canning so my co-worker and I signed up for it even though we both do these things just to see if there's anything new that we can learn.

I was a lucky kid who had grandparents who lived through the Depression. They gardened, grew some nut & fruit trees and preserved food, not in the fancy jars we use today. We spent days at the local dump digging for jars. Grandma would give us a box and told us to fill it and bring the jars back to her. She'd check to see if the canning band fit on them. By the time we were loaded up on jars we had a stink on us that would curl your eyelids and would head off to a local farm pond to wash up and eat picnic lunch. Loved watching my grandma in the garden, filling those jars and stocking her pantry. She warned me to put a little "extra" water in canned soups & beans and such, just in case you have a hard time getting any. They warned us about these days and to be careful who you invite in. They took in some distant family once and came home to a cleaned out winter supplied pantry they worked so hard to fill. Hard lesson and rough times.

I don't know what is coming, but we're doing whatever we can to continue to prepare. The first best time to start was years ago; the 2nd best time to start is NOW. Don't think you have to have 1000's of dollars to prep; just start by getting extra of whatever you normally use whenever you can!!

No family in my state and few friends but honestly I did not need anyone because I just relied on my preps for food/supplies. Most of what I purchase I do in bulk anyway. My job is travel and I work alot of flights so I have always prepped for the long haul. I only have one kitty left as I just lost 2 pets 5 days apart, heart breaking for sure. I prepped for pet food for 3 pets, so I have plenty for just one little kitty.

We have the generator for the freezer/'fridge...Our new shade makes a world of difference in a grid-down scenario. This is one of our last areas of prepping. Also thank you for repeating the message NOT to engage in the negatives (hate, fear, prejuices, unverified 'statements', etc.). Acting on misinformation is ignorant and dangerous for everyone! A running tractor would also be helpful, so add fixing that to the list. We are looking to do most of this ourselves. We have the knowledge for the most part, but time and energy is limited.

UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL!!! Prepare for the worst hope and pray for the best!!! As with families or friends not talking because of differences of opinions is awful. I was raised in away that everyone is entitled to their opinions wheather it's good, bad, or indifferent, you don't have to agree with each other's opinions but you should respect it. You can respectfully agree upon disagreeing with each other and end the unhealthy debate. Then move onto what you do enjoy doing with that person.

We bought a vacuum sealer for Mason jars two years ago. I put rice and beans with a bay leaf in jars and stored them. Anything dry can be vacuum sealed. I went through our clothes recently to donate to the Salvation Army, but kept at least a 1/4 of them. Tee shirts to sleep in works, and kept pieces that had good fabric. I cut them into fabric squares to use for rags, quilts, and crafts. We grow a garden in our yard (end unit townhouse) and I freeze, can, and dehydrate. Of course if anything happens our neighbors know about it. We will share what we can, and have been giving tomatoes and cucumbers to our elderly neighbors. Something good to also stock up on are healing teas. Green tea, Nettle, and Camomile. Honey. Keep it simple and you won't be overwhelmed.

We are working on canning this week because of the amount of peppers & tomatoes we have coming in (we are far, far south of Michigan) . We didn't consider ourselves preppers in 2020 so the only thing that we didn't have a lot of was ff&v and, ironically, paper towels & toilet paper. No, we didn't go battle. We went to smaller stores & paid extra for some tp and used kitchen towels & rags. Oh, our electronic thermometer had a dead battery so we got new ones. I can't read a mercury one to save my life

We have 3 inverters, one for each car. They got us through 8 days without power after a series of tornadoes in North Alabama in 2011. Just as Covid was creating lockdowns, my husband and I were told he had Stage 4 inoperable Metastatic Cancer and wasn't expected to live to see the end of the year. My focus was clearly on him and I knew I didn't have to try to fight people for supplies that I already had on hand. I feel like I'm better stocked now than then and still have things I want to get more of. My son and I talk about this often and he is onboard with being prepared for what is likely to happen. Since your 100 day video I have been canning and restocking our staples. People like to think it’s a waste but these preps have been a God send in the past few years. My hubby works for a breakfast brand and they have had several lay offs that have lasted for a few weeks over the past two years. Those are the times that people don’t foresee needing food, toiletries and a little extra cash. It’s good to be prepared you never know when you or someone else might need a little extra something. Hi Liesa
I have a friend who lost (multiple) book contracts because she couldn't meet deadlines. She spent all of her time living with the news. We've been friends for over 15 years. One night she called me ignorant because I just sit over in my corner, prepare and do my thing. I left our long-time writing group and haven't talked to her since January. I can't control what fear mongers do but I CAN control what I do. I miss her, but I don't miss her negativity.

    This.
I don't want to witness your zealotry, hatred, bigotry, racism, etc. either.
I love this channel. I wish I had found you sooner and discovered the voice of reason amongst the above. Such a relief.
Currently eliminating everything I don't need so I can travel and be away from all of the chaos, now and in the near future. In 2020 I was on BLM land boondocking when SHTF. I watched as more and more people fled "home" so they could be quarantined. Nothing much changed for me and that's where I want to be this time around as well. My neighbors can't be trusted when everything is fine and "normal; " there's no way they can be trusted when SHTF and I don't want to be anywhere near them so I'm going where I can find peace and quiet and enjoy nature.
If you are on a strict budget / limited income, I hope and pray you are getting EBT and/or food boxes. Use them to help prepare. Walmart sells Auguson Farms and limited amounts of other dehydrated / freeze dried foods. Amazon also has some brands that are EBT eligible as well. Buy what you can, based on how you eat and what you will want to eat if there is no regular power. Canned beans, meat, and fish are excellent sources of protein and are already cooked. Canned meals such as Chef Boyardee and similar (not something I normally eat, but they're out there as options). Rice and beans are CHEAP, filling, and go a long way. Look for channels teaching how to eat on $1 a day or $10 for a week, etc. to learn how to extreme budget eat so you can save up to buy what you will need when SHTF. If you garden, excellent! If you're in an apartment, you can still container garden and virtually anyone can sprout which will provide you with fresh food and essential vitamins and minerals.
Assume a MINIMUM of one gallon of drinking water per person, per day. Do not waste drinking water on cleaning your body. You can add Dr. Bronner's soap to water in a spray bottle and wash up with a washcloth to save a TON of water. Don't leave water running for no reason. Even if you think, "it's not important now," you're wrong. We do almost everything by habit so change any wasteful habits NOW, so you have time to get it right.
Humans are the only mammals that think nothing of defecating in clean water. Build a cheap "composting" toilet with a bucket, sawdust or other natural material (dirt works). There are countless videos about it. Use a separate container for urine and your plants and trees will appreciate the added nitrogen. Personally, I like to add my grey water to the urine to make sure it won't damage the more sensitive plants.
How will you cook/prepare your food when SHTF? If you're not using a propane or wood burning stove, you need another way to cook. If you do have propane, does it require electricity for ignition? I recently found out that many modern propane stoves have this feature and that's not good! You can buy a cheap camping stove at Walmart or on Amazon, and then you need to buy fuel as well. If you go with propane, buy the larger refillable containers and fill them NOW. If you buy butane, find an Asian market and buy a box of fuel for a fraction of the price of Walmart or Amazon. There are dual fuel camping stoves that I would recommend over either as it takes both types of fuel and that makes it twice as likely that you can find fuel when you need it.
An even cheaper alternative to either butane or propane is a rocket stove. There are tons of UA-cam videos on those, including using cinder blocks to build them in your backyard / patio. A couple of empty food cans will do the trick for most purposes though, and then you have a stove that will burn whatever you can find handy: paper, cardboard, leaves, sticks, etc. You can also buy manufactured rocket stoves on Amazon; save your money and buy a cheap one with lots of good reviews.
Ideally you will have a solar "generator" and panels, but not everyone can afford one. Harbor Freight has cheap options and if you only really need to charge your phone, you can get a small foldable panel that is lightweight and portable and will do the trick nicely. I recommend bypassing the 7 watt, 35 watt, etc. and going straight for at least 100 watts to make sure you have enough. Expand its usefulness by adding a USB rechargeable battery or two. These are designed to charge phones but can also be used for tablets and any USB rechargeable items you have. Backing up to that 7 watt solar panel, they make solar trickle chargers that are in the 7 - 20 watt range that you plug into your cigarette / 12v plug to keep your battery charged up. One of these is a lifesaver for that time you accidently turned the overhead light on then forgot you did it when you got out of the car (or your pet stepped on the button that puts them in the "always on" position - ask me how I know).
Rechargeable batteries are great (especially solar), but USB rechargeable items are everywhere now, as are 12v rechargeable / powered items. You can get USB rechargeable "showers" that are little devices that you put in a bucket of water to spray yourself off with and can be found for less than $50. USB rechargeable lights and fans are also good items to have on hand (weather doesn't stop no matter what else is happening). 12v (car / truck) powered appliances are great alternatives when you don't have propane, butane, or electricity, as long as you have a vehicle or a solar generator to run them. You can buy fans, heating elements for water, Mr. Coffee-style coffee makers, "lunchbox" cookers, rice cookers, and more. The fastest way to buy these is usually a truck stop (if nearby) or through Amazon.
Lighting: I love the look and feel of oil lamps and candles, but honestly those are my backup for my solar lighting. I have three Luci lights and two odd IKEA solar lights that I found at a thrift store for a buck each. Walmart usually has Luci lights, but so does Amazon, along with many other options. Those Luci fairy lights are cute, but a bit impractical for real lighting so go for the "inflatable" ones. I've discovered that I don't have to bother with inflating them and they still work fine.
For anyone who likes the idea of going instead of staying for the chaos, you can dehydrate those canned goods and save a TON of weight, instead of either wasting them or trying to take them and risking breakage or them losing their seal and having to throw them out later. To make it easier, you can puree things like canned beans and turn them into a substance similar to fruit roll ups. They can then be eaten as is or reconstituted to eat later. I also recommend the little foil pack tuna, chicken, etc. instead of canned fish and chicken. Again, you save a ton of weight and they are ready to eat and, if it's just you, there's no waste or worrying about how to keep the extra good for later.
Leisa mentioned it, but in case you missed it, make sure you're preparing for your fur babies as well. Each dog, cat, or canary you have requires its own food and water supply so make sure you have that as well.
Regardless of whatever you think separates us, we are all human first and Americans (or wherever you're from) second. Be kind, helpful, and ignore the haters. You will find your tribe if they share your vibe. Don't be corrupted by the hatred, anger, and other negativity out there. You've got this; start with what you have, wherever you are and take one single step. Then take another.
    P. S. Make sure you know how to use that equipment. If you have a solar generator, start charging it and using it now. This will also tell you if you need additional solar or if you already have what you need. If you bought a camping stove, try using it now. Learn while there are ample resources (UA-cam, etc.) available and there is no disruption. Buy seeds, even if you've never gardened before. Learn how to forage. None of this is new, it's just new to many of us who weren't raised that way. I also recommend car camping in whatever vehicle you have. Even if "getting out" isn't on your agenda, it may become necessary. Learn what you need and take care of those needs. (A place to sleep, a way to cook, a way to use the toilet {see above}, and a way to clean up. Everything else is extra.) Thrift stores are your friend!

Been through many disasters-tornadoes, floods, Hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, job loss, riots, etc. so we learned to be prepared as we grew up. I have not felt comfortable with events in the past few years and had a vision about some of the events that came true.
As far as preparedness, I am trying to grow food in pots since I have only a patio, but critters are eating almost everything. I got some freeze dried food and can goods and am working on 6 months plus.
I shop a lot at thrift stores. To me they are treasure stores. I have been collecting first aid books, home repair books, and cookbooks. I have some camping gear from when I used to backpack and have added some additional camping and fishing items. I got a propane burner so if I have to can my freezer items or just cook. I bought old tools and nonelectric kitchen items and got some extra blankets and sheets. I am trying to create a comprehensive first aid kit and an herbal kit-I have a long ways to go on this. I have bought extra cat food every month for the past 3 years and trying to get 6 months ahead. I have been putting tap water in juice containers to use for washing, watering plants, etc. Security is an area I am working on by adding solar lighting, etc. I am reading articles every day on preparedness and trying to learn new skills. It actually has become a fun hobby.

I only have one freezer and enough solar to keep it operating for some time (small quiet generator as back up). I also store extra canning supplies should things start to look that bad.
Winter heating is my biggest concern.

We live in Wilmington North Carolina hurricane alley so we prepare for storms because we do not know what is coming, we usually pick up extra stuff each week. It my not be exactly what we want but we can make it

It’s really a good idea to do a practice run. Go a week or two without going to the store. Little tests will show you where you need to improve.

I agree with you , take care of yourself ! It’s myself and hubby both marine Corp vets so we get it . Being prepared has always been in our life . Back ups ,and back ups to the back up . We take care of each other. I am concerned with all that’s going on but I can only change what is mine . Saying that says it all . I enjoy your posts thank you and please take care ! Btw we left Michigan 11 years ago and went south to warmer weather.

I had a eureka moment to add additional shelves to my existing 5 shelf metal units that I bought from Home Depot a few years ago. With additional shelves, I’ll have shorter heights and able to add more cans. I’ve converted a spare bedroom into a prep room that currently holds 7 shelving units…..this will be a massive, yet satisfying project.
Now I have to find uses for extra shelving legs 😂.
    Great video content.
Many blessings and much Aloha 🌴🤙🏽🌋
