LYRICS
(Spoken)
Maybe I should announce it, should I?
Memory of a free festival
The Children of the summer's end
Gathered in the dampened grass
We played our songs and felt the London sky
Resting on our hands
It was God's land
It was ragged and naive
It was Heaven
Touch, We touched the very soul
Of holding each and every life
We claimed the very source of joy ran through
It didn't, but it seemed that way
I kissed a lot of people that day
Oh, to capture just one drop of all the ecstasy that swept that afternoon
To paint that love upon a white balloon
And fly it from the toppest top of all the tops
That man has pushed beyond his brain
Satori must be something just the same
We scanned the skies with rainbow eyes and saw machines of every shape and size
We talked with tall Venusians passing through
And Peter tried to climb aboard but the Captain shook his head
And away they soared
Climbing through the ivory vibrant cloud
Someone passed some bliss among the crowd
And we walked back to the road, unchained
The Sun Machine is Coming Down, and We're Gonna Have a Party oh oh oh
(X27)
(btw this is my first ever video so please be kind I have alot to learn...)
God I miss this guy like somebody ripped out a vein. Pretty soon I’m gonna get older. Miss you Dave.
Thanks for embedding the lyrics. All those years ago, when the record was new, these lyrics made me look up Satori...here's a "now" Wiki-quickie definition:
Satori (悟り) is a Japanese Buddhist term for awakening, "comprehension; understanding". It is derived from the Japanese verb satoru. In the Zen Buddhist tradition, satori refers to a deep experience of kenshō, "seeing into one's true nature".
As many have essentially said, "Thanks for the inspiration, David!.." and...there IS a Starman waiting in the sky... look within... Believe
Karl 🤠
One of my favourite Bowie songs. Played on a Bontempi chord organ designed for children. My mum bought me one. Me and Reg saw Bowie june the 23rd 1973 at the Free trade Hall Manchester. 25shillings. One pound 25p. Aladdin Sane Tour. I wanted to be a professional footballer and after this gig my life went towards music. The Chameleons. The Reegs. Coconut Dog Fuck etc. Various sessions. I have a solo instrumental album ready for release. My first festival was Deeply Vale a free festival. Funny how life turns out... Dave Fiyelding. Love to all. Xxx
@DavidFielding , Thank You!
I love it when I see pictures of Bowie I’ve never seen. Thank you.
1969, Bowie was just entering the zenith of his career bit didn't know it. He would soon be introduced to Mick Ronson & produce some of his finest ever work.
One of my fav Bowie tunes from the early days
Space Oddity is such a gentle chill album it's an album to drift off too it gives off some radiohead vibes
He probaply was an influence for radiohead
Radiohead is one galaxy over mate. This guy was in his own private BowieLoka
Does'nt get any better than this
Great artist, Great song, this tune always comes to mind on occasion when Bowie's name is mentioned. I, personally, can do without pics of him in a jock strap, but I don't fault anyone who does. Thanks.
2021. when this crisis comes to an end, this should be the anthem.
Brilliant lyrics . You can't even imagine how much i miss you Ziggy . Thanks for the magic , for everything . I love you . RIP David .
Just FYI, the man @5:50 is not Bowie, but David Brighton, an impersonator. He's apparently very good, though!
THe whoLe album is a masterpiece, grew up with it.
Really one of his greatest songs. So much Feeling in it.
+Peter Hadamczik-Trapp I woke, saw the sun breaking through the clouds, and David helped me start my day so right. Now, he's my sun machine!
so wish there was a video for this song anyone got one to post if so please post it would like to see it
My favorite Bowie song from my favorite Bowie album "Space Oddity". Thanks for posting.
Maybe I should announce it, shall I?
So much optimism then. All bleak these days.
Lol some of those pictures of The Thin White Duke are a million miles away from the message of this song!
Much respect and 💕. RIP
This is my favorite by him as well. The picture he paints is what I imagine the collective spirit of the time must have been like, complete with the tall Venusians.
Starman David Bowie The definitive biography by Paul Trynka p.102,116

My favorite David Bowie song... ever.
this is how country music should be
So many great songs but I also love this one. Prob going to the small park which is just outside London this year where the so called "Free festival" was held.
Hope you got there
@@nodarkthings Wow 8 years ago. Not got there as yet but still planning to thanks!
@@fasthracing Time flies! Scary. Just reading Mary Finnigan's book about the Free Festival and thought I'd ask. Apparently they organised tribute festivals there in recent times in order to raise funds to renovate it. Not sure if they are still happening...
@@nodarkthings It does my friend. It does. What's the book called? is it worth a read?
Bowie the man
R.I.P thank you david

They were big specked yellow amber, to big to be swallowed easily, we did anyway thank God quite literally.
