Thank you so much for your fabulous videos! I am 57 years old and really appreciate you breaking down each step slowly and concisely. I will be testing for my blue belt in a couple of months and you will help me to get there.
Comments like these inspire me to get back to creating content more regularly! Knowing that I can play a small role in people's karate journeys all over the world really does bring much joy to my heart. I am sure you will pass your grading with flying colours!
Thankyou so much Sensei Zoe! I learned this Kata about 12 years ago and was just trying to remember it. I love the way you broke it down for us! great video!
That's great! It's never too late to pick it up again. These comments always bring me such joy, knowing that my little videos are helping people return to this wonderful art in a small small way. Long may your journey continue! 🤗
Hi I'm a green belt at goju kai karate as we know it from here at south Africa this vd helped alot I think I will improve on my standards thank alot enjoy
Ah, you found our video! Sorry, I'm going through comments from oldest to newest to catch up 🙇 if you are ever in Joburg, you are most welcome to drop by and say hi, and train with us :)
Youth is so often wasted on the young! They learn a kata sequence and think their work is done 😅 Thank you so much for this brilliant comment! Always so happy to hear that my little videos are helpful
Thanks, Sensei! I like this format with the simultaneous camera views and the "buy the numbers" instruction. It's easy to follow along and even an old-timer like me found this to be useful. Instructors learn from better instructors. :-)
Ah, you are too kind to this junior instructor 🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️ I had a lot of fun editing it (though making it was tough!) and I will hopefully be able to do a similar one for Seiyunchin sometime in the future 💮
Ah, thank you so much! It means a great deal that it came across as I'd hoped 💮💮 Thank you so much for watching and commenting, we really appreciate it 🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️
Some good attention to details here. There's a specific way the one palm wraps around the other fist in the 3 opening moves, and it irks me when instructors ignore it or don't know it, so it's great that Sensei Zoe not only does it, but briefly mentions it. Also like the way you did the lower block/middle block/kick sequence in 3 steps, which again is the right way to do it (some people teach to do the 2 blocks simultaneously, which isn't the tradition). Oh yes, the toe points to the ground before the kick - you didn't mention that, but again that's a detail from orthodox Okinawan Goju-ryu traditions. As for the hammer strike to the nose, as Sensei Che pointed out, we also do a smaller circle, small and fast. Second final move (the one just before the mawashi uke) we'd do a reverse knife-hand strike that ends up with finger tips pointing to our left. This is a good instructional video, Sensei Zoe.
This is truly validating - to have someone who truly knows the kata inside and out pick up on the details (even ones so engrained I forget to mention them) means that I am on the right path, at least in terms of being able to teach this kata meaningfully. I don't know if I can make the same kind of video for Seiyunchin, but maybe one day! I am so glad that the authenticity of my Goju roots are clear - I started under a Jundokan line, and have managed to stay on that line, in some form or other, for 16 years now. I am so glad that some of it has stuck 🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️ Truly, thank you so much for this lovely comment - I am glad I didn't delete the video like I wanted to on Friday morning 🙈 (Imposter syndrome is the pits, but I also can't let down the girls coming up the mountain who are looking for female role models)
Ah, you are so welcome! Would love to visit Canada one day (but definitely not in the winter - I've never been colder than -8 degrees!) Thank you for watching and commenting - we appreciate you!
Top instruction and I like your saifa-performance. The technics and the timing - in german language, we say: stimmig (coherent, harmonious?) Thank you very much!
Hi there I have come across this variation, and we teach it as a process, Masuda Sensei also brought it up within his online seminars during covid. Thanks for sharing,
Your username brought me great lolz! Thank you for the comment, and it is always so nice to hear from fellow South Africans - the majority of our following is American, Indian and British, so it's nice to see one of our own in the comments :)
Saifa was always my goto kata For competitions but secretly it was always my favourite too. I noticed though you guys don’t focus so much on the elbow as a strike in the beginning of the Kata the way my hanshi taught us that we should focus that movement as a strike
Hi Nathan! We definitely treat that elbow as a strike in bunkai (we've touched on it in other videos) - but in our federation, the bunkai shouldn't be obvious while doing the kata, if that makes sense? To try avoid overemphasizing moves, as it were. We really do love to hear different points of view - thank you for sharing!
Hi Kate, Thank you for watching and commenting! We definitely want to film more self-defense segments, especially for women. I know I want to a section on hair-grabbing defense especially! Please watch this space :)
Can i ask why in the picture at 3:59 the movement is seemingly 2 closed fist blocks rather than the "pat the dog pick up the tea". Im learning this kata and found your demo/explanations very easy to follow. thx
Hello! So the two fists happen right after the foot gets put down after the second maegeri. So it goes dog, tray, maegeri, land, double-punch. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I am so glad my little video can be helpful to others 🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️
Thanks for the comment Dominik I’m sure it’s also just as technical , It’s in the differences that we find the variety, and the beauty of karate as an art Che

Thank you for your demonstration. I am an Okinawan dancer based in NYC and I dance Saifa Kata during my Okinawan dance called Buno Mai.
Wonderful! We'd love to see it if you have uploaded it anywhere! That sounds beautiful :)

Ah, so happy to hear that, Jesper! Any time I get comments like these, I am inspired to keep making more videos 💐
"I'm done with Saifa."😂 I'm not done with the taikyoku katas yet!!! One is never done with ANY kata. Great instruction again! Thank you!!!

Thanks for this. Will send it to the group.
Awesome, thank you!
I'm OGKK from Canada, we have 3rd variation after the reverse punch, both our hands are open and behind us during the turn.
Hi there
I have come across this variation, and we teach it as a process,

Hello! I'm sorry I missed your comment - how did the grade exam go? I'm sure you passed, with your diligent extra study on UA-cam!
@GojuRyuKarateCentre Yes I passed my exam .
Thank you sensei!
Always a pleasure, champ!
The pat the dog looking makes more sense to me your way.
I am honoured to have made something easier (not that you need it 💪)
Hello Sensei could you please demonstrate various self defence techniques using karate oss
Hi Kate,
Thank you for watching and commenting! We definitely want to film more self-defense segments, especially for women. I know I want to a section on hair-grabbing defense especially! Please watch this space :)
Thank you for replying Sensei, can’t wait for your instructional video womens self defence using karate against a male attacker

Good morning. ☕
Good morning, and welcome back to the channel!
Greetings Ma! I want to start Goju Ryu Training,no training centres in my community,am from Zambia. I did Shotokan
Greetings!
It's a big jump from Shotokan to Goju Ryu as there are no overlapping katas, but with time and effort, you can do it!
To stay on one leg like a crane, I would suggest just to lower your mass center by slightly, or more as usual, bending a knee.
Ah, I wish I had thought about that! That really is useful, thank you 🙇🏻♀️
Great!
👊👊👏
Qual a linha do GOJU que você segue?

Hello!
We are an OGKK branch :)
Your Dachi needs to improve, also your Chakugan and Zanshin is not there... but the kata in general view was ok, thanks for sharing :)
Hugs from Spain
Thanks for the tips!
@@GojuRyuKarateCentre LOL I love your very diplomatic response to that dose of "mansplanation" :)
Guju Ryu it easy to be converted to aikido since firstly this is jujitsu type of karate
That’s the first time I’ve heard of this description, rather apt too
Thanks

This is technical but in the europe we do it in the totaly different way
