However, its unfortunate that it's 2024 and these stick companies refuse to introduce easy modding access to all their sticks. I think it WAS the tournament standard... that's definitely changed by now. It's definitely going to keep changing if they try to keep selling this thing for $350, IMO.
@andrewgiovannini6613 100%. The Obsidian 2 is just $50 shy of the Vitrix pro. For the Obsidian 2's price, you're better off getting a Vitrix stick or a custom stick
This is my favorite stick because of how it feels. Its really nice and solid. It sound like a dumb reason, but it has a really nice "damped" acoustic when you play on it. It doesn't sound cheap and hollow like for instance the Hori alpha. A Korean lever fits, however you cannot put on the lever hatch in the back. It touches the shaft of the lever. I put a round sticker over the hole. I tried this with a golden lever and the knee lever, both have the same "issue".
thank you for sharing, great info, it is definitely a excellent stick in build and effectiveness, i just think qanba is not very inspiring with the 2023 release in their design department lol
I use this with KRM buttons, a Knee lever and my custom artwork and I gotta say it’s my all time favorite stick. Love how informative you are though. Did a really good job going in depth with the review.
My man’s designing a $500 arcade stick hahaha. I just ordered one of these now that they’re going for $250. That seems like a great bang for your buck versus other sticks available. I don’t think I’d change too much from the design, aside from something I’d like to see in most arcade sticks. To me, this looks like the most premium stick since the Hori VLX Premium. Seeing as it’s trying to replicate the Vewlix arcade panel, I’d like to see the stick and buttons shifted a bit to the left, to allow room for a Start button on the right, much like the arcade cabinets, and Hori’s VLX and RAP 4/V. So many sticks leave a lot of unnecessary empty space the left of the stick. Either make room for a start button, or center everything for a bit of symmetry. Anyway, I appreciate your reviews, bro. Keep up the excellent work.
Hey, I was entertained! Honestly have enough arcade sticks but find your videos relaxing and informative. Even if I don't plan on buying its good to know a little bit more about the current state of controllers.
Stick is really nice but for the price it’s definitely not worth it. You can get a custom stick for less money and many of the features of the Obsidian 2 are just a gimmick.
@@zfranke3dome Junfood Arcades ain’t bad, JonyFraze makes excellent sticks.. idk there are just so many haha. At this point I think all of the major retailers have their own cases. I would just look it up on Google and see what you like best. I used some guy off a forum years ago and been happy since Also now I use a hori rap n and a Snackbox for 2D games
for that price, i also expected WAYY more from a reputable company like Qanba. hopefully your words make it to them and we can get more bang for our buck with future arcade stick. amazing video as always!
I'm honestly surprised that Qanba didn't put their own buttons and lever in this stick. I bought a Drone 2 and upgraded the buttons to Qanba Gravity KS and the lever to a Qanba Gravity Silent lever and it made the stick feel a lot more premium to me (though I'm very new to fighting games and arcade sticks). It's also very quiet now, makes me a lot less self conscious about clacking away at Street Fighter when my spouse is watching TV. What surprises me the most is that the Gravity buttons and lever are a standard option on the Qanba Q8, a $200 stick which includes full color LED lighting, the only difference being the Q8 is PC only and doesn't have the touchpad. It's frustrating that years into the console's life cycle, PS5 compatibility is still being sold as a premium feature with a surcharge to match.
I was seriously thinking about getting the Obsidian 2 but a couple of Qanba Pearl stocks dropped recently in my city so I picked that instead. It looks like I made the right choice.
It’s great to see you back I really missed ur videos a lot. I think the stick is great but I do agree with ur criticism. Just a suggestion, you should do a review on a hitbox type of controller.
It just seems like a no-brainer to make the stick easily mod-able. They raised the price, didn’t include their gravity series buttons / levers (which I love). While I love my Pearl. I haven’t changed anything in due to not wanting to deal with taking it apart. Great review. I feel the same way.
glad your channel is still going strong, brother!!! since i can't really justify paying 100+ dollarydoos for sticks i just settled on a pxn. I've always been watching your vids cause it's fun to be part of the community 💪💪 thank you for the review!
Brother, I am entertain, I just get very serious about fighting games and you were one of the first Chanels I follow, you display information in an amazing way and try to improve designs in your own way, which is something not many people could do ❤
If someone is in the market for a new stick, skip the obsidian 2 and get the original obsidian! You can get some really good performance mods from arcade shock. You can get an extended vewlix layout so it’s more ergonomic, noir layout, all button conversion etc. probably gonna be my next purchase once I’m done modding my panthera.
Honestly, the reason I go to your channel first before looking anywhere else is exactly because you don't really entertain or pad watch time talking about nonsense. I just got done watching this one stick review that irritated me so much with all of the fluff that I wound up skipping like half the video JUST so I could get to something that mattered, and even then those details were scarce. And they never said anything actually negative about the device, like they were scared to. I love the fact that I don't have to worry about that when you do a review, and I hope more people grow to appreciate your to-the-point style
the original obsidian still looks so cool. i really don't understand why they phased out the sleek steel look. like having the new one just be a black slab of plastic makes it come across as way cheaper than it should for something that costs this much.
really appreciate you, my setup is very noob lol, its very embarrassing, my bed room is just blankets and bath towels all over the place to reduce sound, and my desk is 20$ from Ikea, I am using a legion 17 inch gaming laptop, I mainly use the hori rap 4 when I play. 🙏♥
@@JoystickNY Hey man, don't say it like that, idk if you remember but we used to talk 4 years ago and how there is no way for me to import stick in my country. I finally got 8bitdo and some sanwa parts to mod it. Some will call it embarrassing and noob but just rock what you got as long as you enjoy it!
i feel like stick manufacturers need to prioritize unique features rather than just parts. It's easy enough to buy any old stick and install sanwa buttons with your lever of choice and have it function like any "premium" stick these days
I’ve recently purchased this and after just a month, only thing I can complain about is the cable management and price. Everything else is great, no complaints from me. If you have the money to spend, I highly recommend it. Also glad I got this and not the victrix because now I have a reason to get the victrix when the Tekken sticks drop!
It’s a really good stick. It’s just yeah the price is up there. At the same time, it’s not like a duel sense controller where you have to replace it. Once you get it, it’s a very reliable ps5 stick for the long run. Very good investment in a stick.
The headphone cable should go underneath and up, not on the side or over the top. Also you can put defused RGB channels down the sides and across the top where the detachable sides are facing up so you can see the RGB when you press the buttons. Honestly I really like this new obsidian, I like that there are parts that stick out because in a dark room it will give me a tack tile feel as a point of contact to feel across to the menu buttons.
Honestly was supposed to get this due to how it seemed pretty safe for an end game stick. But I still wanted silent buttons and the new JLX lever, sadly with those additional purchases the price just sky rockets. Settled for the Hori Alpha instead so I could fit in those parts with the budget, was totally worth it 👌
You should review the Hori Fighting Stick Mini. There is a UA-cam video that shows you how to install a Sanwa JLF lever into a Hori Fighting Stick Mini.
As long as I'm not missing anything, I feel like if you want this you should just get the Nacon Daija, it opens from the top like a briefcase for easy access to all the internals (no screws or anything you just press two buttons at the same time), it looks cleaner imo. It has a detachable cable that you can easily put inside of the controller when you're done. you can create different button layout profiles so you don't have to worry about that at locals/tournaments every time you plug into a new setup. headphone jack is in a better spot. And it's like 50 dollars cheaper lol.
Keep in mind that KLevers like the 2 variations of Knee Levers fit but you will need to take off easy access cover for removing the ball/bat top. Or else the lever will scratch on the cover.
I completely agree with your review, qanba is one of the best brands of arcade stick but this generation of their sticks are a step backwards. The obsidian/pearl is still the best all-round arcade stick out there in my opinion that's why I didn't upgrade from my gen 1. I'll rather mod my mine with a quick open latch and removable cable and wait for the gen 3 obsidian/pearl.
I paid about $80 less than you mentioned in the vid, but overall I came away feeling the same, and your vid made me feel even worse xD. To add insult to injury, Qanba's return policy is nearly non-existent, and they seem to punish the consumer for trying their products. Outstanding review process, and I will be watching many of your vids trying to decide on my next purchase. EDIT: They should hire you to redesign their premium sticks. Your ideas are incredible.
Great review JoyStick! I have a question on arcade sticks in general. I am new to fighting games and love my arcade stick, but I can't seem to find success with it sitting in my lap and my desk is far too high. Are there any tables, mounting brackets, or other methods that you recommend? I want to continue to use it, but I don't want to risk injury or poor posture. Loved your review on this one. Cheers 🍻
very good question, I think for me I play 50% on my lap, and 50% on a table, but a lower table, not a dinning table height,, make sure you are not bending your back, if you feel soreness, then it means that position is not comfortable for you, sorry about the late reply 🙏♥
Don't know if you're working on anything rn but I would love to hear your opinion on the Nacon Daija arcade stick. It has a lot of features that I think you would enjoy (ie detachable cable, easy access to parts, profiles, etc.) But I would also like to see what you dislike about it because it looks really cool but you go very in depth on the pros and cons of every controller.
I saw a lot of comments about this stick, I heard they are sold out on some places, let me see if I can pick 1 up on sale next time ,sorry about the late reply 🙏♥
They just announced a new obsidian 1 variant that's PC only for 169 (I have a converter) and the obsidian 2 dropped to $250. Do you still recommend the obsidian 1 over the 2?
The biggest mistake pretty much every recent fightstick release has been how homogeneous the designs are becoming. So plain and generic. Fightsticks used to have their own character. Especially if companies like Qanba are going to charge so much, at the very, very least make the designs interesting. No one wants to spend over £350 on something that looks like a repurposed DVD player...
First of all, thanks for all the work you put in when reviewing arcade sticks. I love your attention to detail and you explain things very eloquently. Bro. How do you do your dp cancel into special art? I know your execution is crisp. Sorry, I know this question is totally unrelated. I know how to do it but I can't do it consistently to the point I stopped. I think it has to do with the way I dp. Think of clock, I go from 3,4,5,6,5,4,3 in a quick motion to dp. Not sure if that helps you understand. I can do it very consistently on hitbox though. 😅
Thank you so much ❤️🙏, have you seen my video how to use the arcade stick, the short for dp to super section? Where u basically do a forward fire ball, and then a fireball again? Really appreciate your support
great review, it's def a pricy stick but the quality is still there like any qanba product. One thing that I would love to see is if you incorporated a microphone attatched to your shirt or something, sometimes i can't hear your commentary clearly because it gets a bit quiet, but the videos are still great quality.
It kind of seems like all the PS5-native arcade sticks other than the Victrix (which is just a retread of the same design from before, though it's hard to blame them when it was so good already) are just kind of half-assed. PS4 had lots of great options so it's a real shame.
I’ll be honest. I bought it but not really for fighting games. My PS4 has a bunch of Arcade Archives games installed and I use this for that plus the great M2 shooters like Ketsui and DoDonPachi plus the TMNT arcade collection. Its an amazing stick.
im looking to buy either the drone 2 or the obsidian 2... is the jump in price from drone 2 to the obsidian 2 worth in terms of buttons and lever responsiveness/smoothness.... is the drone 2 really putting you in a disadvantage compared to the obsidian?.... thanks a lot
the price is basically on the size, sanwa parts, weight, more material, extra removable side panels, both can be use tournament, maybe switch out the parts on the drone 2 tho
I honestly feel like you should have your own brand of arcade sticks. I think you’d create great products. I personally like when arcade sticks include features like wrist band vibration.
I went for the Hori Alpha and that isn't the best stick but for the lower price and how you get easy customisation it's a steal compared to what Qanba put out. Unfortunatley there's no love for sticks by the big companies this generation so far, Hori definitely needs a higher tier one like Nior. Also these hitbox controllers are killing off sticks I hope it shifts back at some point.
what i would like to know if this has the same internals as the obsidian 1 since i will be most likely changing out the lever to a korean lever since i have the Crown 309MJ HELPME V2
@@Ghostofenzo Sounds great! But still i cant decide which Arcade stick should i get as Newcomer, Somesay that Hori Alpha is great but it just not worth for the price and its Plastic-y Build.
@@IXXIDylan My advice for newcomers is to pick up the drone 2 and once you develop the muscle memory to naturally use it, mod it with Sanwa parts. Yes it’s an entry stick but it will do just as good of job without spending over $250 or more.
This is my main issue with Qanba and their PS5 lineup. It feels like every other brands out there realized the market is now exploding with leverless that they stuck to a flagship model for this gen while Qanba is sticking with very expensive multi-tiered stuff like the Drone 2, Titan, Obsidian 2 and the very limited "2009" (Vewlix control panel replicate with a built in table). I've owned a lot of arcade sticks including Qanba Q3RAF wireless PS3 arcade stick, the dual compatible Q4, 2 Obsidians and still own my Dragon and the Obsidian 2 does nothing more than the original Obsidian besides being PS5 native. Just like what you suggested, at a MSRP of $320 USD, I was hoping for a latch on the bottom like the Victrix FS Pro, detachable cable and Gravity buttons and maybe even the Gravity lever.
@@JoystickNY I wonder why Qanba doesn't give influencers discount codes, it's kinda odd that all these FGC influencers have general positive things to say like Maximilian_Dood and how at this exact moment, they're showing off the $900 2 Player version of the Qanba 2009. I've seen other influencers cover Qanba's new PS5 lineup too.
thanks for this video! you saved me so much money! Qanba come one guys hire him! he already designed the whole experience for you. Amazing video! my only little feedback, please fix your focus. makes the video look bad quality and hard to watch. Beside that all amazing!
Great Vid. Do not say you don't make this videos entertaining bc to me they are very very entertaining hahaha. And I also like that you point out that they lack a lot of features for the money... Idk why even cheaper Sticks like the 8bitDo do better quality of life features being under the 100$ price point...
Qanba really dropped the ball this generation with their sticks. The amount they’re charging for what you get is crazy. Good video!
the matte black should have been a color choice with the pearl for the ob1. imo
Not just quanba though it’s the whole industry right now officially licensed arcade sticks are just overpriced
It looks great, but no easy access to the internals and no detachable cables is insane for such a costly stick
for reallll lol

Just started getting into fighting games recently, love your videos!
appreciate you
We really need you to review the Mayflash F700! Your reviews, information, knowledge, experience, and clear presentation, are excellent.
let me take a look hehe, I hope its not too expensive 🙏♥
As long as I'm not missing anything, I feel like if you want this you should just get the Nacon Daija, it opens from the top like a briefcase for easy access to all the internals (no screws or anything you just press two buttons at the same time), it looks cleaner imo. It has a detachable cable that you can easily put inside of the controller when you're done. you can create different button layout profiles so you don't have to worry about that at locals/tournaments every time you plug into a new setup. headphone jack is in a better spot. And it's like 50 dollars cheaper lol.
sounds good already, let me save up some money and see if. i can pick 1 up
@@JoystickNY awesome^^
Great to see another video from you
thank you
I appreciate your videos so much, helped me choose my MayFlash 300 Elite and I love it.
thank you so much
best review as always
appreciate you
yay another video!
appreciate you
Thank you for the honest review! Please continue putting out awesome and honest content sir, we all look forward to a breath of refresh air. SUBBED
appreciate you
Keep in mind that KLevers like the 2 variations of Knee Levers fit but you will need to take off easy access cover for removing the ball/bat top. Or else the lever will scratch on the cover.
great info, thank you so much sorry about the late reply 🙏♥
I completely agree with your review, qanba is one of the best brands of arcade stick but this generation of their sticks are a step backwards. The obsidian/pearl is still the best all-round arcade stick out there in my opinion that's why I didn't upgrade from my gen 1. I'll rather mod my mine with a quick open latch and removable cable and wait for the gen 3 obsidian/pearl.
ya, hopefully 3 is gonna give a surprise
very detailed analysis and great presentation!
thank you
I paid about $80 less than you mentioned in the vid, but overall I came away feeling the same, and your vid made me feel even worse xD.
These controllers are amazing!
Sadnees i cant get any of these, they re so expensive 🗿
they r getting too expensive for real
No one wants to spend over £350 on something that looks like a repurposed DVD player...
i feel you, hopefully i can give them more feedback and we can get more characteristics back
Another great review from the GOAT
you are too kind, appreciate you
Always happy to see you post man, keep it up!
appreciate you
Thanks for the video!! Great insight as always!
appreciate you for watching
Great suggestion, thank you, glad i dont put music in the background, i dont know how other people talk over music
Its an amazing stick.
its a excellent stick in term of performance for sure
Dear JoyStickNY,
I need your help. Do you recommend the Qanba Obsidian 2 or the Hori Alpha Stick SF6? I really need your assistance.
Thank you.
With the gp2040 rising popularity, I rather build my own at the moment.
at this point, it maybe a good idea to build 1, prices are getting too high lol
im looking to buy either the drone 2 or the obsidian 2... is the jump in price from drone 2 to the obsidian 2 worth in terms of buttons and lever responsiveness/smoothness.... is the drone 2 really putting you in a disadvantage compared to the obsidian?.... thanks a lot
the price is basically on the size, sanwa parts, weight, more material, extra removable side panels, both can be use tournament, maybe switch out the parts on the drone 2 tho
I honestly feel like you should have your own brand of arcade sticks. I think you’d create great products. I personally like when arcade sticks include features like wrist band vibration.
that be nice, when u get hit in fighting game, the arcade stick gives u some type of feedback, or some wearable ,sorry about the late reply 🙏♥
@@JoystickNY yes exactly, I like gamepad feedback. It brings more immersion to the game that I am playing.
I went for the Hori Alpha and that isn't the best stick but for the lower price and how you get easy customisation it's a steal compared to what Qanba put out. Unfortunatley there's no love for sticks by the big companies this generation so far, Hori definitely needs a higher tier one like Nior. Also these hitbox controllers are killing off sticks I hope it shifts back at some point.
as long as i m a live, i am gona hold it down for arcade sticks lol
Also have the alpha and it's very good. ☮️
If Qanba made an Obsidian 2 profile stick with a hinged door in noir or sega 2p layout and a detachable cable I would buy 3 of them immediately.
I would too lol, they didn't put much effort on the ps5 series
Doesn't the bottom part of the Korean lever hit the base of the cover?
can you review the victrix pro fs
what i would like to know if this has the same internals as the obsidian 1 since i will be most likely changing out the lever to a korean lever since i have the Crown 309MJ HELPME V2
I believe it should, or at least very close, arcade stick normally don't change too much inside sorry about the late reply 🙏♥
the latest line doesn't look as solid as the previous gen
for real, they went down hill for a bit
Yay he’s back!
appreciate you
Really like your videos. Great content. Good job!
sorry about the late reply 🙏♥ thank you so much
I already got the Obsidian 1, Pearl and Sanwa modded Drone 1. And imo, they look better than the newer versions.
i say the older looks cooler too lol
Is the Obsidian 1 compatible with PS5 Game such as Tekken 8?
@@IXXIDylan Yep! It’s compatible with all fighting games on PS5
Just like what you suggested, at a MSRP of $320 USD, I was hoping for a latch on the bottom like the Victrix FS Pro, detachable cable and Gravity buttons and maybe even the Gravity lever.
for real, i hear you my friend, thats why i gotta let them know, hopefully the next wave will be better
Welcome back!!!
thank youuuuu
Great Vid. Do not say you don't make this videos entertaining bc to me they are very very entertaining hahaha. And I also like that you point out that they lack a lot of features for the money... Idk why even cheaper Sticks like the 8bitDo do better quality of life features being under the 100$ price point...
yes, for real, if 8bitdo can pack wireless, detachable cable in a 89 stick, they can do it on a 300 lol
Bro you are amazing, qanba should hire you for products designer.
I wish lol, they prob hate me
