Mostly it's just laziness, blacks think of academics as a great mental challenge, while sports as an easier physical challenge, in reality academics is a sport with same processes to success as any sport i.e. 'practice, spending time with it to get better and achieving winning scores higher than the opponents.
Also, you could still get in shape, even if You're academic
