    given that the government can shut down cell phone towers and such at their whim or simply natural disasters, independent comms are extremely important these days

    Great review... I was interested up until the battery. I don't have solar in any capacity and want replaceable alkaline batteries for the radios... What would you recommend that has AA or t AAA batteries and maybe somthing that is comparable to the $70 set from Midland at Walmart ?
    I appreciate your time spent in responding, thanks n' God bless.

      Try the uv5x gmrs and get the battery packs that let u use AA's.

      You do realize you can get power banks that you put AA batteries in, and you hook it to your device and the AA batteries charge your device. The good thing is they are super cheap. You just open it up, put 2, 4, 8 batteries etc inside, connect your USB cable and it charges whatever device you connect it to.

    I suggest people go for a Ham License. It is worth it. But these are the next best thing. I have a GMRS Call sign and Ham Call Sign. They are both worth it.

      @timm2020 Рік тому

      @Celtic Pride I agree, I have both. But either one that fits your needs. There is also MURS which is license free.

      @@Iridium242 Thank you, I understand you. It's quite a small amount. Moreover, it's for 10 years. However, I have a few more questions. Why is a license required for this radio if its power doesn't exceed two watts? Also, I'm curious, in your opinion, which radio is better for simple field communication, disregarding price and environmental protection-solely focusing on the technical aspects-Baofeng or Motorola T600?

    • @vitogriffin8902
      @vitogriffin8902 Місяць тому

      @@Cheusow they require a license because they have a removable antenna and are repeater capable. That being said, if you stay off of repeaters than nobody will know or care that you don't have a license.
      As for your other question, a Motorola FRS is still a higher quality product than a baofeng GMRS or HAM radio, and certainly better than a baofeng FRS radio.
