    What do you think of the Ioniq 6? Do you like the design? Is it better than a Tesla Model 3?

      It looks dogshit. I like the idea of the design. It is better than Model 3.

      As much as I love me a H/K design, the Ioniq 6 suffers a horrible case of SaggyButt (TM)

    Got the Ioniq 6 2 months ago and love it. Great drive, fast charge, a different & sporty style, all the tech I need inside, safety features, 20” rims, pixels everywhere

    I’m not on the market just yet - wheels have yet to fall off the old car - but I will say I’ll keep this on my radar when I start looking again. An electric AWD that isn’t a behemoth SUV is really appealing. I will say the price is still a bit sharp for me to buy new, but hopefully stepping up production and increased competition will bring that down. Or maybe I’ll get one used when the time comes.

    I got to drive several different brands and models of electric vehicles when I was a city valet. The ionic 5 was easily my favorite and a sedan based on that is very intriguing. While a dual motor model s was exceptionally fast, the interior of every tesla I drove was not intuitive and got stale quickly. It was like sitting in a dentists office by the time I got to the garage.

    With the Ioniq 6 Hyundai managed to do the thing I've been waiting so long for...create a car in the 2020s that actually looks like a sleak, sexy car of the future.

    I agree with you, the mid-level RWD spec makes a lot of sense, and I even agree with your Dad Rant...why do family cars need to be SO fast??
    I also love the quirky looks...I cannot believe the Korean manufacturers are the ones willing to take the most risks these days!

  • @debidousagi
    @debidousagi 19 днів тому +2

    Honestly I'm kinda digging this quirky-ness! And i love that it isn't another crossover/SUV! When I eventually get an EV, this is on the short list. Glad to have some alternatives to the model 3!
    Also, I'm totally with you on the Dad rant! This thing would smoke my S2000... and that's bonkers!! The acceleration arms race is out of hand, everything does not need super car acceleration... Like we see most how bad people drive, they should not have access to that kind of speed honestly lol

    Love the wheels and the risks Hyundai took with the design! Definitely stands out from the other EVs, but the AC controls look difficult and confusing to use.

    Oddly enough, when I see these and look at the styling cues I can’t help but feel like it looks somewhat inspired by the old 2nd gen Tiburon. You can especially see it in the hood. Also it looks very fishy and aquatic too, especially that rear end. That alone is enough for me to want one of these so much cause god I love that stupid little niche sports coupe!

    Hey Ethan! You called it on the rear design for sure j30 vibes ~ I think it's better than the j30 in a way but I also wish it wasn't so busy on the bumper. I love the front headlights
    The upside down bathtub looks great ~ like the center of gravity is low and it would take a corner
    I hope Hyundai and Kia's e-veh vehicles are more reliable than there ICE engines of the last decade
    Definitely would go with this over the model 3. More physical controls rather than a slab. And don't want anything to do with Elon Empire anyway

    The very rounded profile is a little goofy but I like the boxy look Hyundai is moving toward with this line. I'd take this interior over the Tesla hands down. It's incredible.

    Re: the rant. My issue with super acceleration EV drivers is that they seem to be driven by people with no concept of traffic flow. They will take advantage of instant acceleration to close gaps that regular cars can't (making your rear view scan critical if you're also doing a bit of threading) but then the EV mindset kicks in and they will block fast lane traffic at 67 or whatever perceived speed maximizes their range.
    Re: Tesla - I'm not yet an EV candidate but I would not buy anything that puts coin in Musk's pocket. I mean ever. Years ago I thought he was an interesting guy and when the S first came out it was an aspirational car I could not then afford. Now that I easily can, I wouldn't dream of it. Jobs was a piece of work, but he never put me off Apple. Elon, well - this is a car channel, I won't get into it....

  • @beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees
    @beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees 20 днів тому

    The big advantage for me over the tesla is the lane keep/adaptive cruise. I don't know if the newer model 3s have radar, but I drove one without for a long weekend and it was super untrustworthy. Hyundai's system isn't faultless, but it never felt unsafe.

    Great review. I currently have my 2023 Bolt EV and do love it. It's a fantastic little hatch for efficiency. However, I prefer cars/sedans over SUV/CUV's and the quirky hatches that are trying to be a tiny CUV (Bolt). So although I love my Bolt and want to see what the new one coming out is like, my next "car" will most likely be just that: A car like this or the Model 3. As for looks, I like the Model 3 outside better but like the inside of this Ioniq 6 more. I'm hopeful GM will get smart and bring a PHEV or EV sedan out for people like me. After all, just like you, I'm not excited about buying a car (Tesla) from "him".
    BTW, this is my second Bolt EV. The first one averaged 4.7 miles per KWH over the course of 16,000 miles. My new one now has 2,600 miles and I'm averaging 4.8 miles per KWH. Can't do much better than that.

    • @verynick
      @verynick 9 днів тому

      4.7 is awesome! What’s you average speed with that?

    • @danielberning1240
      @danielberning1240 8 днів тому

      @@verynick I think the 4.7 and 4.8 are great too. My driving is a mix of stop and go city/heavy traffic and some freeway driving in the southern California area. If you know anything about the freeways out here, it's either bumper to bumper at 5 to 15 mph or it's getting run down while doing 70 mph. So a mix. But of the 16,000 on the first Bolt, probably 12,000 was slower stop and go.

    Looks fine to me, but it's not $55,000 worth of vehicle. It can be hard to define what is these days, but I need more to pony up that much dough.

    I wouldn't buy a electric Hyundai because of the issues they had recently with their electric motores, and the lack of solutions given beside the substitution for a new unit with the same problem...

  • @FlowStateNewOrleans
    @FlowStateNewOrleans 20 днів тому

    You beat me to saying the rear is reminiscent of a Merkur. Is there a compelling reason to get this over the Ioniq 5? I think this is one of the better looking sedans out there, but the 5 is also very interesting looking.

    • @HelloRoad
      @HelloRoad  20 днів тому +1

      I think it comes down to whether or not you want to live the crossover life or not. If you don't need the cargo space, this is more efficient and can be had with more range. Equally comfortable inside, just not nearly as much cargo area as the 5. :)
