The pocket watch movement was purchased first, back then, and usually taken to a case maker/jeweler to put it in a case. That's why the different serial numbers. The watch movement serial number is on the movement itself. Also the case is called a "Double Hunter".
The Kay Day coin is a metal typer lucky arcade token. There are no two of them alike, because the machine made each coin customizable to a point. They were pretty popular in the sixties and seventies, sort of like customizable dog tags that came later on. They used to have tons of those machines around amusement parks and outside practically every Woolworth store. Most are worth anywhere from 2 to 20 bucks now, the rarest ones being the red ones. You got a 5 buck one.
abalone is the name you're looking for in regards to the keychain knife but on something that small, novelty like, it's most likely an acrylic made to look like shell. nice haul over all though. good job.
Wow, I showed my whole family this and we were all shocked that the stuff we got rid of while moving actually ended up with someone! I recognized the charizard card and harry potter card immediately. I have a story for pretty much every item you showed in the video lol! There a bunch of random things b/c we had a big nerdy family into everything you could imagine. It seems like most of our stuff stayed together, how cool. It made us all reminisce about the time around when we still had these things. For some reason I want to thank you! Your videos are super interesting and this little coincidence made me want to subscribe!
Put beads or stones to your upper lip; if they feel cold and stay cold they are not glass, but actual stone. The black beads look like Jet or Onyx. A tip, always study your black stones, black opals are worth more than gold and are very, very rare!!!!
I go to church thrift shop(s) and make amazing finds all the time.Old 1st edition books, old(civil war era) cancelled checks, jewelry etc.... it is an addictive hobby and i do it just for fun. Thanks for sharing👍
The pocket knife, if not mother of pearl, usually white colours and the inside of a shell, or abalone may well be Paua from New Zealand. Im a knife collector and have one just the same that was made in NZ. They were tourist items in the 60s - 70s. Paua is similar to abalone. Its the lining of one of our native shellfish and very beautiful and highly coloured when polished. Blues and greens with streaks of other colours. Its used a lot in tourist items here
That "Kay Day" good luck token looks like its from an old arcade style machine similar to the souvenir penny roller things you see everywhere now. You would put like 25-50 cents in and then choose what letters you wanted, and the machine would use dies to punch the letters into the token. I've used the machine before, looks just like it.

Be sure the "plastic" older jewelry isn't Bakelite as it is very valuable. It is heaver than plastic and denser. Check to see if the lightest plastic necklaces have W. Ger., or W Germany on the metal clasps. The metals are very very light and I can't recall what it is made off but it seems post WWII metal. The W German jewelry is usually nature or mid century design and very colourful. It is all very light as it was sent back for trade via the air flights from delivering foods etc. need in W. Germany. They and other items for trade were shipped back rather than haul empty planes home for more food shipments. Planes were the only way anything could be delivered post WWII when Berlin was divided East from West as a compromise. Once the Berlin wall was taken down regular transportation allowed regular items so they stopped making this.
Love the video! I had never seen any videos like this until today. I love thrift stores; am always looking for something I can sell, but never looked for jewelry. What a cool idea. Thanks! Maybe someday I will have a video with my thrift store finds!
I just happened upon your channel and I love the idea of going through these bags to find silver and gold!! I got a bin full of beads and things to make jewelry with but I have no idea how to rest things. I’ll be sure to find out how to do that. Thanks for the idea. I also love finding so many cool little things!!
I bought a bag full of jewelry from Savers thrift store and was rummaging through it when I came across a pin made with a 2" perrana 🐟. It made me mad so I took it back to the store. Same store I found a gold house with a car in the driveway with ruby and sapphire flowers. It was about 1"×1" in a plastic bag marked $2.99. I looked on the back for 14K but couldn't see anything. The back wasn't smooth but had wavy designs, the kind that they put on cheap jewelry in the 25c plastic cups by the gumball machines. It looked real. I put it back two times then looked real close and they had put the 14K in the wavy texture making it totally camouflaged. A coin dealer gave me $120 for it.
Lots of good stuff in the bag. I'm glad that it paid off for you. The thrift store jewelry bags that I see are always priced very high. I really like the garnet ring!
Where I’m from we had goodwill, arc, and savers mostly. Savers used to be the best priced for theses bags but there aren’t many savers around anymore. Where I live now we have Deseret Industries and the prices generally reasonable. This bag did come from DI.
COin Metallurgist- That pocket watch you have probably is either coin silver 80%, or 925 silver, it has alot of markings indicating silver, the whole watch is worth restoring and would make a great heirloom. Probably about 100 to 150 years old, I would definitely restore the movement, those are hard to find anymore.
i can also be something more new a few years ago you could collect remakes from classical pocket watches so it also could be that it defently looks like one of the serie.
My mom worked at goodwill in the offices and although it is true the employees cannot buy stuff that people work in the offices can so a lot of times the instructors or people who had other jobs would pick out all the good stuff first Sometimes things would come in from Target which they would buy for pennies on the dollar from Target directly and those would be bought up by staff also this is in California I don't know if it happens in other states I know my mom once bought six twist mops for $15 and just one mop was valued at 30 and that stuff happen very often she bought 2 Oral-B black toothbrushes which cost well over $100 for $20 brand new from the things that had come in from Target it is what everyone did their it wasn't even a secret and sometimes if you were cool with an office person you could have them pay for your stuff inside the store I know she wants bought a music box for $20 and online it is selling for between 600 to $1,000 so yes don't buy the bags from Goodwill
The timex watch is an indeglo watch which means is you leave it under a light the face will glow blue. Came out in the late 80's and didn't make it into the 90's
stripping that watch for an ounce of silver, is just pointless destruction. one of my pet hates i see silver dealers at sales here in the uk bulk buying these just to melt, so sad greedy bastards.
Pocket watch is your most valuable item. The movement is covered, it has sapphire jewels. It is probably late 1800's. Sell it to a watchmaker who will take care of it and restore it.
Waltham's watch factory designed and mass-produced a low-cost watch, the William Ellery model. Selling for an unbelievable $13.00, these watches became a fad with Union soldiers.
yes but dont assume that due to being mass produced that it is worthless, i mean 19th century mass production is still low, and how many survived? its all relative

Nice haul from the Goodwill...check out the Volunteers of America too...BTW, the handles on the small pocket knife are Abalone...and it is a type of Mother of Pearl...good video....!!!
💔 sad to see a 1800's key wind pocket watch in that condition. They usually only run around $50-160 in that condition but they're still a pretty cool piece of history. Usually if you see that hole in the back it's for a key that would be used for winding the watch and that was replaced with stem winding in about the early 1900's.
If you google pocket watch by william ellery. It comes up that he was making watches in the late 1800's. parts can be found on Ebay. But some complete watches were selling for over $600. Please comment when you look yours up. Thanks
All of the thrift stores around where I live either have volunteers with way too much time on their hands, so they look up every piece of jewelry they get and overprice it, or it's Goodwill and their jewelry comes pre-sorted so as not to be valuable. 😣
That Timex watch sold for about $20 new. Indiglo means that the face glows when you press the crown in, and yes, it's battery powered. As for it not being that old, you've probably got stuff in the back of your freezer older than that watch.
Civil war era watch made by Waltham. You had a big score for the $17 investment. The Jade pennant with " love " symbol on it is probably worth enough to surprise you.
Oh my, i’d be happy to try. By the way, non-gold and non-silver falls in the range of “costume” jewelry which can be expensive and collectible. On this video, I would mention that a ruby is very expensive and rare. A garnet is also red but I would think that both would more likely be set in gold so as to match the quality of the gem. I suspect your ring has a glass stone, however. The bauble you note as “jade”is green, but it seems on my screen to be garish and I suspect it could be plastic. There is a fascinating tale delight and artistry concerning vintage and antique jewelry.
That package of amber looking drop beads are not from Czechoslovakia, it just means the way they were made. I'm a 'Bead-A-Holic', and for over a decade I worked in the Bead Dept of a craft store, and taught beading. Pretty beads tho - I have about 150 in assorted colors lol. Interesting finds, and cute that you have a 'helper' in the beginning ;)
Hey, the Timex watch marked Indiglo lights in the dark. Pretty recent. Just realized this was done a year ago. The watch question had likely been answered many times in the 724 comments!..Those bags provided allot of entertainment value! For you and for 398K people so far!
I buy bags like that all the time. I don't buy them to see how much I can make off the stuff. I but them because I like just finding neat or odd stuff. Some of the things like broken jewelry bits are used in my crafting. :)
The most beautiful thing in this video- is that little baby's cute hand.
Worth more than all the other stuff......:)
I agree. Made me smile.
That Watch is a William Ellery and Abraham Lincoln used to have one of those watches... Really cool!
Funny he says it does not have any markings. But it has markings all over it.
Yeah the watch in better conditions has been valued at around $400

Another possibility for black in jewelry is spinel gemstone.
Toria Butterfly A black Spinel would be a nice find.
Sharon Martin this is Toria,. I'll have to figure out how to show you my black Spinel and amethyst earrings.
Toria Butterfly Maybe you could put a link to a picture here.
The first ring you showed is gorgeous, that is something I would buy, I have a similar one, I think the stone is a garnet, not a ruby...nice haul...
Martine Bangs yep that's a garnet
Yeah and the second ring is dyed howlite, it's common to make fake turquoise.
Martine Bangs send me one.
Nice find and best of best..yeah
..
Absolutely, a garnet. Rubies are much lighter in color and either reddish pink or straight on red.
Not a ruby --- wishful thinking.... - it is likely a garnet. . .
Yes, obviously a garnet duh.

Wow. The jade is great! Nice finds!
The little statue looks like the Maltese Falcon. The gem in the silver ring looks more like a blue topaz than turquoise.

On the Jade thing is writen 愛 that kanji means Love
The jade charm is worth $85
Amazing grab bags!! First ring looks like a garnet, still gorgeous. Good Job!!
How about the jade pendent with the gold trim pieces?
Aaahhhh I love that tiny abalone shell knife. It's so cute, and I love abalone shell.
The dark shell on the pocket knife is abalone and the white shell is mother of pearl
The coloured shell looks alot like paua from New Zealand as a farmer I'd love love to have that pocket knife
The "little loop" at the top of your cross is called a bail & the knife is made of paua abalone shell
I love the babies hand ,soooo cute!!🤗

yeah great big bold "watch band or bracelet" if your a Viking!
You got a good store there,,, around here all that stuff is gone through with a fine tooth comb before it ever goes into a bag
That timex watch is one of the first watches that lit up if i re call i had one after that 1 came out
the knife is abalone shell, and I'd take the ring to a jeweler because it looks like a good sized garnet to me.
On that chains at the end there. Staneless steel will mimic the result for platmum. And also gold test well not do anything to it.
What secondhand store do you shop at? All the goodwills around me sell big bags of plastic junk for20 or $30.

Cool finds in the bags. On the small knife is mother of pearl.

The Little pocket knife is "Mother of Pearl" inlay. Timex watches, we all had them as kids in the 60's and 70's.

i find 2 wedgewood silver necklaces today at ours in the UK and a silver flower necklace.all real aswel was well happy x
The jade pendant has the kanji Ai, Japanese word for Love. With the knife the word is Mother of Pearl.
The chubby hand is the best part.
Great finds! The stone in the ring is not a ruby it is a garnet.

I think that is a Garnett.
little eagle looks like the Maltese Falcon

I'm a 'Bead-A-Holic', and for over a decade I worked in the Bead Dept of a craft store, and taught beading. Pretty beads tho - I have about 150 in assorted colors lol. Interesting finds, and cute that you have a 'helper' in the beginning ;)
dragunn tiss too bad they're not something cool like genuine Baltic Amber or hardened copal resin
That tiny knife is beautiful
That pocket knife the handle is made its mother of pearl
The shell on pocket knife looks like abalone...that pocket watch looks like a military watch. Good finds!🥰
Hey, the Timex watch marked Indiglo lights in the dark. Pretty recent. Just realized this was done a year ago. The watch question had likely been answered many times in the 724 comments!..Those bags provided allot of entertainment value! For you and for 398K people so far!
...You have two left hands, and one is way bigger than the other...

The eagle looks like a character from the 'Maltese Falcon' Could be a souvineer?
Good finds. I thrift store shop too and I've found some awesome things as well. :-)
The little timex, if in working order is at least 15$, another bag of goodies for sure!!!
Luv the ring so. Much!!
There are things that not silver and gold still valuable. I found vintage police badge in jewelry, it sold for over $130 at auction
I buy bags like that all the time. I don't buy them to see how much I can make off the stuff. I but them because I like just finding neat or odd stuff. Some of the things like broken jewelry bits are used in my crafting. :)
THE ABALONI SHELL KNIFE IS REALLY COOL I ALSO LIKE BOTH WATCHES
Thank you for the awsome video!
That watch is the coolest piece.
Thanks!
