Which tracks for me; you love your dog, you'd do a lot for your dog but you also expect it to trot along beside you and do as it's told. And that's pretty much how Yennifer treats Geralt. Triss gives him more respect.

Also, I do note that a lot of characters who express their low opinions of Yennefer (which kinda reinforces certain players' perceptions on Yen) either have limited understanding of the situation or have personal biases even if some of them are valid. With Witcher Ciri's ending in mind, I can see the pair working out long term in retirement in Corvo Bianco. I can see post-book Geralt and post-game Geralt getting along with post-Witcher 3 Yen as she certainly has come a long way since The Last Wish.

That's my take on it. Triss is what most fans thinks is a healthy positive gf for them. Yennefer is who I think makes sense canonically and given his personality. Triss also is cheating somewhat because she gets whiplash character development from the books and the last two games -- where she's framed either as a real parasocial weirdo, comic relief or an unwitting pawn in the greater power schemes of other sorceresses. One who, by the way, takes advantage of Geralt's memory loss to gaslight him into thinking they were always dating. She sort of gets better, but not by a lot. She got this lightspeed development or retcon into this resistance fighter who isn't overly clingy about Geralt. And that's the only reason she is competition now. In a vacuum, with a blank slate, she makes perfect sense as a partner. But Geralt has history with Yennefer. And that sort of trumps any other considerations. He already has a bond with her. If you think Yennefer is toxic, yeah, she is. But it makes sense if you understand her background and she's much better person by Witcher 3 than before. She's jealous, possessive and prickly, but she does genuinely care about Geralt and Ciri and would go to the ends of the earth for them. The thing is, Geralt was just toxic in a different way. He was a complaining manchild and he ran out on her without any explanation while they were getting serious. They more or less both had to fix themselves to start having a functional relationship and Yennefer dies trying to heal him of a pitchfork wound. Their story wasn't about an idealized anime romance, it's a more realistic one that's messy with its ups-and-downs. Two flawed people bonding over shared experiences. Geralt is also just sort of an M. So he's actually into that sort of behavior with Yennefer and it comes across in their flirting. His sense of humor is very much in line with teasing and being teased back.

She specifically knows who killed Foltest (even if he was going off script). For the entire game, Triss could cave your life and chooses not to.
