"It's does not matter. What do you do?"
"OK, well, start off with scene safety. Then assess airway, breathing and circulation. I'd then start...."

My applied med class does trauma scenarios at the end of the day. We’re split into two groups, one stays in the room and the others have to leave and have no idea what is happening inside. The group in the room either decides or is assigned injuries and must act the part, we can only tell them what’s wrong when they ask us certain questions. Our instructor only gives us the items we need and we are left to figure out who needs what and “save” them within 1 minute. I ended up as a victim with both legs amputated and the instructor had me hide in a cupboard covered in things so they actually had to find me. I’m pretty sure I bled out, they didn’t find me until the last 15 seconds and somehow lost one of the tourniquets.

Great job! I took EMT training in the military in '86 in Oakland at the Naval Base. I was stationed at the Presidio as a 91A so we commuted to Oakland for many weeks. They did this very thing in assessment phase...no matter what we did or said they threw in a wrench until we failed. My fictional patient was found near a dumpster and when I was told they were not breathing I went for the mask...but it was 'damaged'. My partner froze up in fright. Bystanders refused to go call 911. Eventually, the virtual patient 'barfed in my mouth' and infected me with who knows what, then died. Fail.
It was all in good fun but I supposed we did learn something.

Same in austria, though they're called differently. Plus in austria we have emergency doctors aswell - emts staff the normal ambulances, and paramedics + a doctor are on the NEF (literally translated emergency operating vehicle)

@@froggybugDepends on level of training, different states have different qualifications. But generally:
EMT-B (basic) - ambulance driver, can do first aid, AED, oxygen, not much else
EMT-I - a Basic that also does IVs (in some states, this is minimum level for EMS)
EMT-A - picks up a specialty, like cardio or respiratory, usually does non-emergency transport work (in some states, paramedic training is required before these specialties)
EMT-P - medic. can do intubations and other invasive procedures
Every state and department has their own rules, this is just a rough summary

Outside the obvious case of "They just wanted a ride", it is often just a security thing. You want to be sure you have professionals with you if things take a turn.
      .
That said the one time I cracked my head open, I was driven to the hospital instead of using the ambulance. I puked blood all over the car (for those wondering why: It turns out sometimes when you take a fall... it causes your lungs to bleed... and when your lungs bleed the blood sometimes gets into your stomach... and when your stomach fills with blood it pukes).
      .
Though truth be known I live so close to a hospital (albeit one with a terrible reputation, considered one of the worst in 1000 miles) that I could reasonably walk to it. Waiting for an ambulance would take more time than just going. So it would be better if I reserve that for situations where I REALLY shouldn't be moving the person.

The scenario was such that we were responding to a deli shop and the owner leads us to the patient. I even did my little "scene safe" BS, but obviously I didn't ask *how the fracking temp was* ... When we were playing pew-pew games in JRTC, we'd have these senior NCOs walking around called Observer/Controllers. They're allegedly highly skilled professionals, but usually it's just whoever the unit could spare when they got the tasking.
If your unit could spare you and you had a rocker under those chevrons, you probably weren't going to grow up to be the next Audie Murphy.
They amused themselves by giving the silliest injuries they could to the guys who got tagged out, whether by OPFOR actually shooting them (with lasers, think laser-tag) or them being too close when a simulated explosive went off. Pretty much every injury should've been something related to getting shot or catching shrapnel, but they were giving out things like heat injuries, migraines, broken bones, stuff like that. Not exactly battlefield trauma stuff. The most absurd one was a guy getting a card for a miscarriage. This pissed our medic off to no end, because he was rather keen on our guys getting trained for things we'd actually expect to encounter overseas.
They shot him with the controller gun, then handed him a card for menstrual cramps.

Got told how to act, and to not "see again" until I got to the psych ward. I got a great tour of all the departments of the medical facility for a couple of hours until finally someone decided to send me to the right place. The second one was on a field exercise, I had a "sucking chest wound," and the moulage team gave me a very realistic small wound in front and a huge one in the back. My first ride-along, I happened to be with the SWAT medics. They failed scene safety so bad our first call, they nearly got fired. All I heard was GSW, we were on scene in two minutes. They flew up the street, literally screeching to a halt next to our bloody patient and immediately jumped out to render aid. As I said, my very first call, I did little else but fetch stuff and chest compressions on demand. Right as we're loading the patient, the cops pull up, asking us where the shooter was at. The two medics stopped, looked at each other and were like "uhdunno" and then we hustled off.
It was almost two weeks later that an instructor at my school pulled me aside about it and had me write a thingy. The school complained to the ambulance company (major city's main 911 service, so no, not naming anyone), and the two medics lost their SWAT certification. I never told anyone, the instructors found the story while going over the assessments from the crew I rode with.
