Definitely! As a hearing person, I don’t think about the captions often. But every now and then, I’ll turn them on to understand a video better. I hate when they’re trash! I think one of the reasons why sketches look so good is like you said, a lot isn't finalised, so your brain fills in the gaps or chooses the best lines/details based on your preferences and it looks great. But once all the lines are defined and 100% clear, you take away the chance to fill in the details you like and the chance for a bit of interpretation. I love the way your sketch stage looks like, I prefer it over the refined stages too, you could try doing a "refined" sketch type of drawings, like eleeza or smth!
Exactly! A sketch forever holds the possibility to become the perfect artwork in the eye of the beholder ... perfectionism has such sneaky ways to always tackle me when I think things were going fine and I was having fun... until I realize that something is more work and then my brain just goes: oh well, this just proves you are not good at it... if I was good at it, it should be easy and fast - right >,< Starting to realize my brain is wrong LOL! Perhaps I should stick to a new mantra: learning is persisting when my perfectionist me wants to quit.
I've worked this out but just not doing lineart. I hate line art and it always make things look worse because I'm terrible at picking and choosing lines. So now I sketch and get it to a stage where it's a more refined sketch in the same layer working forever and keeping the opacity light so I'm chipping away in in a pink or red tone. Then I colour under it and lower the opacity and go over and either colour the sketch with colours like you would for coloured line art or just go over and darken some of the pink lines. I guess it digital painting but not rendered at all really.
From a psychology standpoint, you are absolutely right. Our perception is trained to group features and fill in the gaps. This is why there is such allure in illusions and such, as it is more engaging for the perceptual system and I think this could definitely be the case when looking at sketches. There are more features for us to interpret in our own ways. Idk anymore, I'm just rambling. Kind regards, a stoned psych student.

Honestly I feel the same way about finalizing my art. It's kind of disappointing because I do sometimes want it to be crisp, but I lose all emotion and fluidity. I just stick with pencils and occasional liner on top (no erasing) some glitter, or alcohol markers and I've never been happier. Yes, I'm not actively improving "true" refining, but I like to think that's there's more than one way to refine something! I like to think it's my style, and I honestly enjoy the entire process. I can't enjoy erasing my pencil, it has so many emotions and character, I can't bring myself to take that away. Insteas of worrying about making a mistake with the liner or something stressful like that, I focus on character design, dinamics, anatomy,ECT. This was super enjoyable to watch, but I felt bad that you hated doing it 😂. Anyways, don't feel like you HAVE to improve on refining. Sometimes that's not who we are as an artist, but I commend you for taking the time to practice refining, it's definitely not easy!

I seriously respect you, to be a UA-camr and an artist is a lot of pressure. I can see how you'd want to accommodate your veiwers, I think if I was in your position I'd be tempted to do the same. As one of your veiwers, I say do whatever the heck you want! I'd even want to see some of the stories you've created, your characters, whatever you find enjoyable! Even you just sitting down, chatting, and drawing girls, I don't care! Of course I know it's not always that simple, but I'm sure there's more people out there than you think that just enjoy watching you do what you love. Yes, I love how I create art now, I feel so free to express myself. Art for me is true freedom, and I'm so happy. And you're not lazy btw, art is art and I think your pretty dang good at what you do.
It can be just like that! I've had drawings that to a handful of people are nothing special, but I enjoyed the process and the emotions I've felt while making a piece are what fuels my desire to continue. Art is the one thing that, I feel, has no real definition. It is what it is, whether it a paint splatter on canvas that took a second to make, a stick figure in the sand, or a drawing that took months, they are all unable to be compared. You can be angry, sad, tired, happy, devious; you can feel whatever you want while making it, it doesnt matter! Art truly is in the eye of the beholder, and I find that so beautiful.

Honestly, I always thought I was a sketcher, too. The fact is that I always like my art as sketch, while when I lineart it and color it I don't like it as much because I see SO MANY flaws, but still I don't get what's exactly wrong with it. And after working on something for a while without getting anywhere with those flaws, I get bored, too. This video was basically watching myself, and trust me, I felt the frustration. What makes it even worse for me, is the fact that I'm mostly a traditional artist, which means re-making things. And after a while I get tired of re-making and give up. This video made me think: I am definitely lazy with my art, and also I should try to do more digital. Thanks for the helpful insights!

Me too.. Sketching can be so boring for me cause I’m worried I won’t improve and my sketches just look so bad, I can’t help but think I’ve done something wrong. but after it starts to come together with the smaller details I fall in love with making art all over again
Same as I like how when you put the colours in your sketch actually comes to life but at the same time the colouring can destroy your sketch that’s what I hate
(Note: I'm sorry for the long comment, but I've been noticing this was something that was causing the fustration, but I could never could figure out the wording until now that I see what is happening in it's entirety) I think... the issue you're having of the Final Product versus the sketch is when you start doing the lineart, you're trying to "perfect" even the flow of the piece when you're redrawing the sketch of the piece on the larger piece. You see the "Imperfections" of even in the movement and it's making it feel stiff to you because you're not letting the looseness of the original to come through with the redraw. I noticed once you redid the looseness of the work and went over it more painterly and then emphised it with the linework on top of that, you have the flow and movement you want. You do better in the painterly style because it has the process of "sketching" but you can then get the satfication of clean up with the linework on top. It's not a cheat, it's more that you have to embrace the sketchiness process of "It's going to look worse before better" of the painterly style. You're still implying your reasearch, you just have to remember to loosen your hand and mind on the larger pieces.
@@BbGun-lw5vi Welcome! I just know the frustration of seeing something you love suddenly turn stiff, and I had to realize that sometimes what happens is that you're over correcting yourself most times. (I was guilty of this until I started to go back to doing more fluid sketches)
This always happens to me!! When I draw in my sketchbook, I’m rly slow and I try to draw everything precisely, but I end up hating it. But, when I sketch on some scrap paper, not caring how it looks, it actually turns out rly good and I wish I drew it in the sketchbook xD

I feel like this is an issue that most artists struggle with, especially when you start improving your skills to the point of making more complicated pieces with full backgrounds. The art of finishing and polishing a piece is a skill, one that takes more time to learn than the basics, I think. I experience similar issues where I get to a point, I'm trying to make my piece look finished, and then my "finishing touches" end up ruining it! I learned some great tips, even though I don't do digital art.

Maybe in order to find a way to know how to fix your mistakes.. maybe whenever you look at someone else's art, try to find mistakes on their artworks.. maybe try to imagine what you would have done to fix them and what you would have done differently. I think a good pose for this would be to have the girl’s face at a profile, her body at a three quarter but more back, and her having her arm out and the parrot landing. That way you get the back of the parrot and plenty of the girl, plus I think that’s more natural. But the heck do I know lol, the pose waffle’s chose still looks gorgeous

I've been hoping you'd do a digital art video for us!😄❤ I really felt it on a spiritual level what you were saying about getting bored at certain stages of creating a piece. There's this pressure to see your vision through, but the motivation just kinda dies at some point, it starts to feel like _work_ and that's high-key a huge contributor to my art block in general. I've been slowly learning to just let go of this odd self imposed expectation to bust out whole finished pieces, and just enjoy drawing! I just want you to know that I'm super grateful for this video in particular, even though it kinda pushed you to your limits! 😅❤

Yeah that’s a great idea! It would be good for Rin to get out of her comfort zone because she says she doesn’t like to draw very fine details too often
The illustration turned out so good!!! I definitely understand spending hours and hours on something, not really understanding how to fix what's wrong with it, and wanting to move onto something else... but then sticking with it and finishing anyway, even if it's not perfect!

This is one of my top favorite videos of yours! I normally don't like watching people struggle but when it comes to art it's so refreshing to see that even pro's struggle sometimes 😅 I truly appreciate that we were allowed to follow you on the whole journey with this lovely artpiece. I didn't really think you too hit that tough stage of being bored of it and just not liking it anymore in general. To me everything you do looks perfect so I didn't think you had those moments. This makes me want to revisit some of my old drawings that I gave up on. Obviously it's possible to just fight through it and create something amazing! ❤️
When you were deciding the position the character and the bird would be in, I immediately thought that the girl could have her arms spread as if she's flying while the bird is either doing the same with its wings while standing on her shoulder or flying above her.

RIN! Your so damn good! I have been taking shortcuts for so long I had a real hard time going back to creating my artwork in a true traditional manner! I enjoy your videos and artworks so much! I encourage you to keep doing the things that bring you joy. You might enjoy your "shortcuts" Now I have found that I will never go back to the beginning techniques I used when I started out 30+ years ago. I remember a girl getting kicked out of an art show for using white paint in her watercolor painting! I truly love the more relaxed attitude creators/artists have these days! I hope you continue to learn and grow, I have not learned all I need to know after all these years and I do try! I believe if your really trying to be better you will never "know it all" I have met a few who think they know it all, but they don't! Keep learning keep your attitude sweet and keep your mind open! I’ve been having these exact feels lately and I think it’s because I’m drawing how I think other people draw instead of trying to create my style. Your art is beautiful. Keep using the pipeline that works for you.
I feel your struggle so much! You are NOT alone gurl! The process of making a painting is often so hard and there are challenges and everything sucks and that's not fun! :( But you came to such a great endresult, it looks great! Just keep pushing yourself, you're doing the right thing.
What I learned from this is when you couldn't name that feeling, that overwhelming urge to just stop, it was when you weren't heading in a direction you liked. You're not lazy, you just have a particular style that you find pleasing, and your body tells you when you need to stop and take a different approach. When you did push through it and started over, your art became amazing. I need to remember this when I feel like giving up.
Watching this video felt really validating. I always thought I wasn’t a “real artist” because I could never get myself past sketching and all of my pieces are really messy. Thank you for this and showing your struggles with making a final piece!

I feel you. I hate colouring and shading and like smoothening the art. I love to draw layer after layers of lines with a pencil or stylus or whatever...I am a sketcher too I guess. I just love when lines dominate the presence of colours. BTW huge fan of your art!

As somebody who likes the carving out and spending insane hours on finalizing her pieces it was so fun to see you take on that challenge! I'm not a sketcher at all and never understood why you wouldn't carry pieces out to the end (at least what I internalised that to be like). I like drawing or doing other forms of art for a long time, to me it's another form of escapism, like when you watch tv or read a book. It lets me forget about my crap for a while and concentrate on making something beautiful.

Of course I know it's not always that simple, but I'm sure there's more people out there than you think that just enjoy watching you do what you love. Yes, I love how I create art now, I feel so free to express myself. Art for me is true freedom, and I'm so happy. And you're not lazy btw, art is art and I think your pretty dang good at what you do.
I'd like to think that with art it doesn't really matter how it turned out, if you had fun during the process.
It can be just like that! I've had drawings that to a handful of people are nothing special, but I enjoyed the process and the emotions I've felt while making a piece are what fuels my desire to continue. Art is the one thing that, I feel, has no real definition. It is what it is, whether it a paint splatter on canvas that took a second to make, a stick figure in the sand, or a drawing that took months, they are all unable to be compared. You can be angry, sad, tired, happy, devious; you can feel whatever you want while making it, it doesnt matter! Art truly is in the eye of the beholder, and I find that so beautiful.
I think the definition of art is.................art yep art is art and yeah.

I think art is beautiful even if it’s a dot of pencil on a piece of paper that took a second to make or a masterpiece by Michalangelo that took a year to create. Art is beautiful. Honestly, I always thought I was a sketcher, too. The fact is that I always like my art as sketch, while when I lineart it and color it I don't like it as much because I see SO MANY flaws, but still I don't get what's exactly wrong with it. And after working on something for a while without getting anywhere with those flaws, I get bored, too. This video was basically watching myself, and trust me, I felt the frustration. What makes it even worse for me, is the fact that I'm mostly a traditional artist, which means re-making things. And after a while I get tired of re-making and give up. This video made me think: I am definitely lazy with my art, and also I should try to do more digital. Thanks for the helpful insights!

Me too.. Sketching can be so boring for me cause I’m worried I won’t improve and my sketches just look so bad, I can’t help but think I’ve done something wrong. but after it starts to come together with the smaller details I fall in love with making art all over again
Same as I like how when you put the colours in your sketch actually comes to life but at the same time the colouring can destroy your sketch that’s what I hate
(Note: I'm sorry for the long comment, but I've been noticing this was something that was causing the fustration, but I could never could figure out the wording until now that I see what is happening in it's entirety) I think... the issue you're having of the Final Product versus the sketch is when you start doing the lineart, you're trying to "perfect" even the flow of the piece when you're redrawing the sketch of the piece on the larger piece. You see the "Imperfections" of even in the movement and it's making it feel stiff to you because you're not letting the looseness of the original to come through with the redraw. I noticed once you redid the looseness of the work and went over it more painterly and then emphised it with the linework on top of that, you have the flow and movement you want. You do better in the painterly style because it has the process of "sketching" but you can then get the satfication of clean up with the linework on top. It's not a cheat, it's more that you have to embrace the sketchiness process of "It's going to look worse before better" of the painterly style. You're still implying your reasearch, you just have to remember to loosen your hand and mind on the larger pieces.

This always happens to me!! When I draw in my sketchbook, I’m rly slow and I try to draw everything precisely, but I end up hating it. But, when I sketch on some scrap paper, not caring how it looks, it actually turns out rly good and I wish I drew it in the sketchbook xD

I feel like this is an issue that most artists struggle with, especially when you start improving your skills to the point of making more complicated pieces with full backgrounds. The art of finishing and polishing a piece is a skill, one that takes more time to learn than the basics, I think.
I experience similar issues where I get to a point, I'm trying to make my piece look finished, and then my "finishing touches" end up ruining it! I learned some great tips, even though I don't do digital art.

Maybe in order to find a way to know how to fix your mistakes.. maybe whenever you look at someone else's art, try to find mistakes on their artworks.. maybe try to imagine what you would have done to fix them and what you would have done differently.

I think a good pose for this would be to have the girl’s face at a profile, her body at a three quarter but more back, and her having her arm out and the parrot landing. That way you get the back of the parrot and plenty of the girl, plus I think that’s more natural. But the heck do I know lol, the pose waffle’s chose still looks gorgeous

I really felt it on a spiritual level what you were saying about getting bored at certain stages of creating a piece. There's this pressure to see your vision through, but the motivation just kinda dies at some point, it starts to feel like _work_ and that's high-key a huge contributor to my art block in general. I've been slowly learning to just let go of this odd self imposed expectation to bust out whole finished pieces, and just enjoy drawing! I just want you to know that I'm super grateful for this video in particular, even though it kinda pushed you to your limits! 😅❤

This is one of my top favorite videos of yours! I normally don't like watching people struggle but when it comes to art it's so refreshing to see that even pro's struggle sometimes 😅 I truly appreciate that we were allowed to follow you on the whole journey with this lovely artpiece. I didn't really think you too hit that tough stage of being bored of it and just not liking it anymore in general. To me everything you do looks perfect so I didn't think you had those moments.
This makes me want to revisit some of my old drawings that I gave up on. Obviously it's possible to just fight through it and create something amazing! ❤️
When you were deciding the position the character and the bird would be in, I immediately thought that the girl could have her arms spread as if she's flying while the bird is either doing the same with its wings while standing on her shoulder or flying above her.

RIN! Your so damn good! I have been taking shortcuts for so long I had a real hard time going back to creating my artwork in a true traditional manner! I enjoy your videos and artworks so much! I encourage you to keep doing the things that bring you joy. You might enjoy your "shortcuts" Now I have found that I will never go back to the beginning techniques I used when I started out 30+ years ago. I remember a girl getting kicked out of an art show for using white paint in her watercolor painting! I truly love the more relaxed attitude creators/artists have these days! I hope you continue to learn and grow, I have not learned all I need to know after all these years and I do try! I believe if your really trying to be better you will never "know it all" I have met a few who think they know it all, but they don't! Keep learning keep your attitude sweet and keep your mind open! What I learned from this is when you couldn't name that feeling, that overwhelming urge to just stop, it was when you weren't heading in a direction you liked. You're not lazy, you just have a particular style that you find pleasing, and your body tells you when you need to stop and take a different approach. When you did push through it and started over, your art became amazing. I need to remember this when I feel like giving up.

As somebody who likes the carving out and spending insane hours on finalizing her pieces it was so fun to see you take on that challenge! I'm not a sketcher at all and never understood why you wouldn't carry pieces out to the end (at least what I internalised that to be like). I like drawing or doing other forms of art for a long time, to me it's another form of escapism, like when you watch tv or read a book. It lets me forget about my crap for a while and concentrate on making something beautiful.
