Duckmade: Ford - Hunting Waterfowl on the Chesapeake Bay

As a native of Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay, becoming a goose hunter was inevitable for Director of Brand, Ford Van Fossan. This culture spawned a standing Thanksgiving hunting tradition that ultimately brought generations of family and friends together for almost two decades. first-ever bird i shot when i was a kid was a honker goose and since then I've been hooked on these birds, funny enough on my college campus there are just geese everywhere, it drives me crazy.

Atlantic Flyway does hold many traditions of waterfowling going all the way to when our great nation was founded, but unfortunately it also has suffered immensely. 25% of the US live on the Eastern Seaboard, so DRAMA will happen; introduction of pen raised mallards has hurt the black and mottled duck populations, and the migrating Canada goose? Fights with USFWS/commercial hunting operations over bag limits and season lengths got so NASTY at one time your Maryland waterfowl biologist had to wear a FLAK VEST at a commission meeting. If it wasn’t for the resident Giant Canada goose program, your opportunity to hunt migrating Canadas would be minimal at best.
Surprisingly, Atlantic Flyway hunter participation has grown 10% in the last few years, so there is room for optimism of this great heritage. Unfortunately, Mississippi Flyway has lost 10% in the same period- maybe one flyway oughta take cues from the one just East of it. After all, half of the duck hunters in our country hunt in the Mississippi Flyway……
