Spectacular Science Experiment! Leaf Transpiration

Materials: low-lying tree branches outside, resealable plastic bag, tape, an adult science helper
Directions:
1. Take a handful of leaves on a live branch and wrap the bag around them a shown in the video. Then seal the bag and tape it to make it an airtight seal.
2. After a few hours, you should start to notice that water is collecting inside of the bag. How did that water get there?
How does this happen? This happens through transpiration. That is when a plant takes in water through its roots and then releases water through their leaves as water vapor. The water is condensing inside of the bag and is being collected as liquid water.
