Jolin Tsai is a Taiwanese singer who has dominated the c-pop industry for 20 years. she's referred to as the queen of c-pop, Asia's dancing queen, and the Asia's madonna. she has sold more than 25 million records, and she's recognized as one of the best-selling artists in Asia, she's also one of the highest-paid ethnic Chinese celebrities.
Jolin Tsai majored in English literature at Fu Jen Catholic University (1999) while being a teen idol after she emerged as the winner of 1998 MTV singing competition in Taiwan. She was the most hardworking artist in the industry as she only came in contact with Dance at the age of 22. And now, she is often regard as the Dancing Diva of the Chinese Music industry today. Her success today as the Queen of C-POP is not by chance, but through her dedication and success in surpassing herself.

Jolin wasn't emotionless; her facial expressions reflect themes (sassy, bossy, girly, fierce, and intense) portrayed by this song, so it wasn't appropriate to smile at all times. She knows how she looks, and she tailors her facial expressions to her physical appearance (she uses her big, beautiful, non-protruding eyes--perceived as cute and pretty in Asian culture--to her advantage, constantly giving intense, targeted looks at the audience). I appreciate that she didn't add too much unnecessary features/performances to this show--sometimes over-performing will ruin the originality of the song and exhaust the performer.
her English is good, because she graduated from Taiwan's Fu Jen catholic university and receveid a bachelor's degree in English literature.

Great choice. If you want to go down that route I especially like their MVs to "Play "as well as "The Great Artist," "Ugly Beauty" and "I am not your Girl". The lyrics are really deep on those so you should try with subtitles.

Jolin Tsai is always a solo artist. Cpop is definitely different from Kpop, and most seasoned/established artists tend to be solo artists (except for a few bands such as Mayday, Sodagreen) with their own styles and the topics/subject matters are different and shall I say, often times more cutting-edge, than what Kpop generally explore (I am speaking as someone who have watched a lot of Kpop groups). These solo Cpop artists are usually older and their songs often deal with broader topics in life than Kpop idol groups (probably because Kpop idols are mostly teens or young adults and they deal with more of teenage angst, growing pains or self-actualization.) (Of course there are young Cpop idol groups too because of recent imitation of the Kpop model but very few groups are actually that big). Jolin Tsai's song Play is to satirize the Taiwanese society if you get to read the rap lyrics carefully. Jolin Tsai has great music videos and her songs' meanings (especially the more recent ones) need to be understood from her music videos, so you should react to her music videos first. If you watch her mv first, you will get a better idea. I suggest you watch her "We're Different Yet the Same" mv.
