Wow, this brings back memories ! I did the design of the fonts for Gunstick's fullscreen scrolling (53:25) under the nickname Oxar when I was 17. I remember working on an amber tinted screen back then, guessing how the colours would render on a colour monitor. Great times !
Such great memories, I used to watch this over and over in 1991 as a kid... used to treat the main menu almost like a game, flying around for hours with the lion to that awesome sample sound. So good!
I don't know why, but I remember this being a lot more impressive when I was young. I believe every member of the team made their own small demo, and the Flying Lion interface was created as a more interesting way of trying it all together than a boring menu. At 800K (completely filling an Extended Format 720K floppy), it took me a full hour to download at 1200baud. Today, I could d/l it several times over in a split second at modern Internet speeds.
IIRC correctly, each member of the team made their own demo, and the Flying Lion demo selector was a clever alternative to a boring text menu. I remember this taking me a full hour to download the 800k demo at 1200baud.
Hey ! I remember that ! Please wait, plea pleapleapleapleaplease wait ! and the I say yeah with the lion ! @Demoscene TV do you have the demo who say Bitner, my name is bitner (don't know the correct spell) and after in deutsch, like this (ich lau ich mof kaften) (I don't know how to write in deutsch) ?
I'm nearly sure the sample is taken from Secchi featuring Orlando Johnson. The original can be found at ua-cam.com/video/so81qgGbELU/v-deo.html. Was never able to find the actual sample used in the main menu. They obviously added some of their own lyrics as you probably wouldn't get away with releasing a mainstream record with some of the actual lyrics used!!
@@grex9101 You're more than welcome. There's also a copy of the all the samples from the ULM demo on soundclound which you can find in the 'Show More' section of ua-cam.com/video/jDPFnFbqIUw/v-deo.html . I thought I had posted this earlier but my response doesn't appear to have sent. Enjoy and happy new year!!
@@Gunstick I don't remember palette switching artifacts on my STE back in the day, and I'm sure there wasn't. I'll retest on my various STs out of interest. Maybe fullscreen method causes this, idk. :) Always loved the demo regardless :)

That's the Life's a Bitch demo, ua-cam.com/video/EKnrq3a8rVA/v-deo.html
Instant time travel
Mint demo
the full demo was epic but i like the parallax scroller at 53:30 best. And there is a hidden feature but i can't remember the short cut.
Just FYI to note if you want to run this it must be done on a non-STe model. It does not run properly on STe models.

Does anyone know what the sample at 01:31:49 is? (or even what it says?!!)

Was this recorded with an emulator?
That would be my guess, on the initial intro there was not any color artifacts on the far right of the screen on the original.
@@ZCT808 yes there was. color artefact is an optimization. no CPU time to make it look nice. There are a couple other voluntary artefacts in the demo.
