How to Enable Laser on Kingroon KP3S 3D Printer

- Today we will show you how to enable laser on Kingroon KP3S 3D printer. All you need to do is flashing a new firmware and installing a laser. It is currently for KP3S with STM32F103 and GD32F303 chips only. It will be available for STM32F407 soon.

The chip code is GD32F303 and the laser cable is with a white connector, the same one of the fan.
It doesn’t matter, 103 mainboard uses the same firmware as the 303 mainboard. As for the connector, just cut it. I cut it before the video, that’s why it looks different.
My láser came with a extra chip and with a withe conector with 3 cables seems to be a recent versión .can You update the video for the curren láser on sale
Hello. I bought the laser from the official site, but it comes with 3 wires. Red, black and white. I see it uses PWM, but in the video you do not have that adapter. I tried only connecting white and black (because the top circuit said those are positive and negative) and the laser turned on correctly, but when I tried to carve something it didn't work. The laser just turned off. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Is it possible to have 3d touch and laser to permanently be fixed together? I see both are in the same mounting location.
It can be but better not, putting too much things on the printer head would affect the print quality somehow.
Hello. I bougth this laser and the kp3s and i would want to know how can i ajust the laser lens to focus int correctly, please
First, find out a proper height based on the object you want to carve. Second, take something to cover the object, and click “light on” to light the laser up. Third, turn the focus ring on it to make the light spot as sharp as possible. Be careful with the light, make sure your hand doesn’t touch it. When it is done you can see some smoke generate. After that, you are ready to go.
Jut installed all and downloaded the firmware found through this link. However, after flashing the printer and changing the mode... nothing gets cut. The laser is moving, but does not turn on, What's up with this? Also, the laser came with a cable with 3 wires. Red, Black and yellow. Red and black are connected to HE1 as i the video, but yellow is not connected to anything. why is that even there? Please help?
The yellow wire doesn’t matter then. There is a “light on” option, you can test it before doing any carving. If the light goes on, you are OK to carve, if not, please check the connections. If everything is correct, please take a video to show your connection on the mainboard and how the printer works to support@kingroon.com, our guy will do a further check on that and find out the problem. After installing and using the laser, everything is fine except that not all the options in the LaserGRBL software work. But this is not important to me, because in the end it works.
The problem is that now, with the new firmware, the print pause does not work. As soon as you pause, the z-axis goes up to the upper limit and the printer turns off, then turns on again and obviously you can't restart the print in progress.
Could you review it?...as this breaks an essential feature of your printer.

No, it isn’t. Laser and printing are two independent models, they won’t affect each other. But it might kill the mainboard if adding laser cutting, that requires much powerful laser and be more dangerous to handle.
@@Kingroon3DOfficial If you more mass to the x axis carriage it will affect acceleration whenever there is a change of speed or direction along x axis. Watching the video I did not get the impression one would remove the laser when going back to 3d printing. That carriage already has a lot of mass being a direct drive system. Other systems that I have seen typically have one remove the hotend when adding the laser and remove the laser when adding the hotend.
@@peircedan Sure it will reduce the accuracy a little bit, and more when using firmware like Klipper. I guess the linear guide helps a lot, or hanging something like a laser could affect the print quality more. We will have some extra tests, and see if the accuracy is acceptable.

I encourage you to sell lasers of different powers (up to 90w for example) because that would give us buyers more possibilities.

Better within 50W, 90W might be too high for the port to handle. As for pin, just choose one similar with ours. Otherwise an adapter might be needed.

@@Kingroon3DOfficial Theoretically the mainboard need only supply an on off signal. Power could be delivered by a separate driver.
As far as danger goes; lasers are potentially dangerous. More power does increase the fire hazard (of the target). There is a potential for dangerous fumes! There is a potential for fowling the laser lens by gasses coming off the sample. Higher end laser cutters include fume extraction and air filters. Also often have an enclosure to reduce exposure for the operator.

I guess we could, but the Arylic needed to painted to avoid reflection. We will try carve more objects with it and share in the community.
can we use it for old KP3 (not kp3s)?

Yes, please check the video we posted few weeks ago, we released a new firmware there, you can switch between laser and 3D Touch. The video is about mainboard replacing.

If I have a piece of wood 18*18 which is the maximum size of the bed, can I organize it in the software to engrave all this wood? With small 5*5cm logos?
I’m sorry to tell you that is not doable. The carving size is smaller than printing size, because the laser is not at the same position as the nozzle.

@@AlvaroSouzadesign Yes, you can. Just make sure to find the correct start point. It doesn’t home so you need to point it manually. Some adjustments are necessary. Just be careful.
Can I also have the 3D Touch Leveling Sensor & Probe, at the same time with the laser? As I can see we have to install both with tf card.
I'm afraid not, those two parts have a same install position, so you can only have one function at a time. But we will see if we can figure out any way to keep both. As for the firmware flashing, what you noticed are right. It's a feature of the printers mainboard, you can flash firmware by tf card. So if you flashed any wrong firmwares, you can always flash back to the stock firmware.

We just carved a phone case with it. But cutting paper, if you mean cutting it like a knife, it can’t.

For metal carving you will need a more powerful laser and wearing a goggles. We tried metal with this one but failed.
