I'm a recovering addic and have been worm farming for 15 plus years. I am small time compared to what I see here but I produce enough castings for my wife and I to have a big enough garden ( year round ) to feed us most of the veggies we eat. With no other fertilizers. I went through a program about 12 years ago I saw how much could have been used for compost. What a great idea on top of the benefit of eliminating waste you're teaching the guys something they'll remember for the rest of their lives and maybe pass along. Great project Captain Matt 👍

I'm 41 years in recovery myself, Rick. It causes me to bend a knee in humility every morning when I contemplate how far I've come, but how close I am to where I was. It thrills my heart to help Chris and his mission.

I loved meeting you Chris - your heart for the guys in your program who are battling addiction (my situation 41 years ago) is inspiring. Those who have come through addiction have a deep compassion for other people and are no less of a miracle of life than the worms creating castings. Thank you for your servant's heart!

My wife works at an adult rehabilitation organization here in Vermont. It's a big-enough company with many houses for various stages of care; she works in one of their end-of-the-line houses, which means that (she) they work with people who are almost ready to rejoin society.
Having written, I see "gold" for these people to focus towards because many love to garden at the house, which produces a lot of waste food. What would be better than teaching how to use waste as a means to grow something new?!!!
Captain Matt, you inspired me to build a plan for these people and those that guide them. Thank you!

We should talk Cuznclive - perhaps we could get a group of people together who are all doing this same type of organizational worm composting. Drop me an email at matt@wormpeople.com

@@CaptainMattsWorms I got shut down immediately over concerns of pathogens. Guessing the insurance companies have a hand in preventing unnecessary risk, which is the problem...
They didn't knock-me-out, but I'll need to provide more information about sanitation, etc., to the contrary and through diligence than I hoped.
The workaround is to supply them with castings to show how valuable they are in a permaculture garden.

No better monument than a life changing program that offers such great inspiration! God be what the you on this journey, and Captain Matt is an inspiration to so many. I'm starting my worm farm, just a tote for now but one day it too will give enough to feed many gardens. The world is changing, and we all need to change with it! Thank you for the inspiration!

1st off let me thank Chris for being a bright light for the Teen Challenge faith based program for those trying to recover from addiction and hopefully achieve life-long abstinence from all substances including alcohol. I am quite family with Teen Challenge and their methods. I have supported them best I could over the years I had lived in Fort Myers, Florida by shopping a few of their thrift store locations in and around the area there. I am sad I moved because I was always able to get such great stuff from them at a very good price and I was helping rehome items that were reusable or repurposable which is just what I love to do. David Wilkerson is an amazing man who started this Christian faith based program and to see people like Chris who himself most likely was one who participated in this program himself doing something amazing to give back with land that will in turn give back to the many others who will go through this program there is just awesome. I hope other locations follow in the methods he is teaching there is Sanford. It can benefit so many. I think communities in general can benefit greatly by using lots of unused land in the same manner to help feed the residents in need of the area. Churches should get involved if at all possible and even public schools should teach this type of knowledge. It's a fantastic benefit to everyone and also our climate. Thanks Captain Matt! This was truly awesome 💖

Right on, Mark. I love when people take an idea I moved forward (but didn't invent) and make it better. That process builds over time to immense success - but only if we share freely with each other and don't try to over-capitalize or guard "secrets". There should be no gardening secrets on this great green earth!
