This happened with AA as well. She qualified 5th but with Biles and Ross in 1st and 2nd she got knocked out of the finals. Which is a shame, would have loved to see her in more then just the VT finals!

It's so rare nowadays..Starting around 2000 or so the accent came to be all about power..Here MM is artistic but gets inderscored..Biles in one FX does her super-hard skills, but steps out of bounds 3 times, is as artistic as a rock and still gets the high score..I miss the 80s with the Eastern Block ladies FX and their ballet training...

The judges were quite willing to give this routine around a 9.0-ish e-score had she stuck her tumbling passes. I'm fully confident that missing out on the floor final is only going to motivate her to come back stronger next year and for the rest of the quad!

there was no inquiry because she started early and messed up the timer starting with the music, it was her own fault and they knew it, so an inquiry would have been pointless and could have resulted in an even bigger deduction
Kyla shouldn't give up her spot because mckayla had issues. She wouldn't want her to do that. Mckayla will be back stronger than before. I am glad she is sticking around to show she can do the all around. One bad meet won't kill her. She's tough.
Please please get rid of the 2 oer country rule!!! Seriously? How fair is it that a girl who places 21st in qualifications moves on to AA while some who placed 4, 5, etc do not...simply because their country has better gymnasts?? Its unfair to the individual gymmast. And since they've made Worlds an individual event... its only fair the top 24 go on. REGARDLESS OF COUNTRY
And the timer situation is entirely the fault of her coaches/choreographer/Marta and USA gymnastics. And imo McKayla's E score when she hits everything should be higher than a 9.00! :) She also shows tremendous power on her tucked double arabian. She's got enough power for a Dos Santos I or II imo.

One again the US judging system and camp system fails an athlete by overlooking a very simple problem that ends up costing an athlete a spot in the finals. If this is how she will score on this event she won't medal. I think she should have gotten higher. This is a result of the inflated American scoring. She scored a 15.2 at nationals with a routine similar to this one.
(3 years later) If you look at her landings, she steps out of every pass except her double layout, and she usually steps forward or backward out of most of her leaps. All those are anywhere from 0.1 - 0.3 deductions each. Also, she may have had some form errors on her double layout (legs *slightly* bent, and open/not totally together) or her 2nd pass, the 2.5 + Front Full. I do think they were maybe a little harsh, but the executive here was actually less clean than her FXs at home for Nationals. She also got hammered on BB (major balance check and a fall), but got a surprisingly good UB E-Score!! She wasn't far behind Kyla!
Why should she? No athlete should be expected to give up a spot that they rightfully qualified for. No more than Gabby or Aly should've given up their AA spot to then reigning World Champion Jordyn at the Olympics. Kyla earned it.
Rose Hadsell Which gymnasts are you reffering to? Anyways here she didn't step OOB as the line judges didn't do anything (and it's pretty clear that she stayed in bounds, she was just close to the border). And you can see that in the end her timer turns red which means it's overtime (deduction).

After watching this routine I still don't understand the score of 14.333, it seemed really low.

She received a .1 deduction for being OVER TIME. Cannot believe this wasn't caught in training or during Classics and Nationals. Sacramone a la 2006.
