she's the queen of vault in my eyes too! i wish she was able to carry on competing for longer, but in reality all of her injuries/illnesses made that impossible :( i'm glad she was able to step away from gym and focus more on her own wellbeing and other interests though :)
i get what you're saying but she quit just in time. she was being abused by a sick man and an entire organization and she had to protect her mental health and start to recover. she shouldn't have had to retire and i wish we got to see what else she could do, i reallllly wanted to see her get a yurchenko 3 :( but i'm enjoying her current journey :)
@@mercedesbenzodiazapine i totally agree! i just wish she'd been able to compete under completely different circumstances and a better organisation, and then we might have seen her compete for longer :( i'm so glad that she's doing something that she loves now, and she's just as passionate about it!

ALL of her gymnastics was amazing. She was underrated on the other three events. A 3 1/2 twist on floor, stuck?? Seriously, that’s amazing gymnastics. And her bars releases were high!!

I was obsessed with her in 2012 and wanted her to make the team so bad. It’s such a shame what happened to her. She was a decent all arounder but went into the Olympics injured so she only did vault. We had no idea but she was being abused the whole time. And then she fell during vault finals and the whole world made a joke out of her disappointed face after losing a medal she was almost guaranteed at 16 years old.
Exactly i don't understand why it went viral. If you were the best you knw u should have won the gold. It was her right to be sad or to be happy. Why judge???
People got to realize that even with that fall, she won silver! How many can say their worst day at anything won an Olympic medal of any color. Her worst vault in 5 years earned 2nd place! 🥈?💕
I don't think people were making fun of her with the whole "not impressed" thing, if anything it added to her presentation
Ace The Skylord I think overall it was a funny joke to say shes not impressed but a lot of people took it too far and said her face meant she was a brat or ungrateful when it was a fairly small and human reaction to failing spectacularly on a world stage (I don’t think a silver medal is a failure but I mean how she must have felt).
@@cookieaddictions NBC shares a lot of the blame for making people think she was disdainful of the Silver. The whole time she's on the podium they're running the camera up and down from her face to the silver medal. They did that right through the playing of the Romanian National Anthem for the girl who won the gold trying to catch McKayla crying. This was despicable.
And through all of that - there was no mention that I saw of the fact that she was competing with a broken toe - which would of course - still be broken when she was standing on the podium.

You know what it is about this gymnast seeing the end of the vid -- she's not afraid. Like she goes go for it. You can see she over steps and all that but do you see the impulse that she gets when she's in the air or tumbling?? Dude its amazing. Zero fear.
honestly i would be terrified to do half of the skills mckayla did, especially that 3.5 twist!! the concussion she got from doing it in missouri looked awful :( i remember her saying that she was scared to do a lot of skills, but she was so brave to do everything that she did, especially under the horrible circumstances :(
When these young gymnasts get interviewed it always sounds like they have a script to read from. McKayla always showed so much personality.
Her 3.5 on floor is insane. Not only is her form better than most just throwing a double or triple but she could nail it.

she was so funny and outspoken, but i think at the same time she could be very respectful and wise for such a young person!

If she needed naps, it meant she wasn’t getting enough rest, so back off haters :). Coaches need to respect growth spurts and respect their gymnasts’ bodies. Full stop.
I think they don't really want them to grow. The smaller you bare the better.
She has such a great personality and I think that is why I enjoyed her FX routines so much. She got to show a little bit of it. I always thought she gave great hugs in 2012 too. She just full on hugged which showed she loved her teammates. I so wish she could have stayed longer competing. I know her body broke down from all the mental and emotional and physical stuff but she was a fave because she was so exuberant.
her floor routines were my favourite!! i absolutely love her FX from 2009 (if you haven't seen it already!), she was an amazing dancer! her relationship with the other 2012 girls was so sweet, along with tons of other gymnasts :) she looked so happy every time they did well which i absolutely loved
I am the same age as her and she has plenty of medals, a successful career and now is retired. Meanwhile, I'm hoping to start with my career next year, which God knows whether is going to be a quarter of successful as hers lol. She has all my admiration and respect (:

I remember watching her compete when I was so young, and for some reason I always remembered her, and now YEEEEEARS later in the 2021 olympics I’m watching a ton of gymnastic videos and she’s so COOL LMFAO WOW SHE WAS SO GOOD I DIDNT EVEN KNOW
Truly one of the greatest Vaulters of all time. Quite honestly she was hugely underrated on other events too. She was an incredible twister, and had tremendous power, coupled with grace and artistry. On FX and BB she moved so gracefully and beautifully.
The fact that she (and all of our incomparable ladies) accomplished so much while being mistreated and openly abused by a broken & utterly corrupt USAG is nothing short of superhuman.
Rot in prison Larry Nassar! And Bela Karolyi, Martha Karolyi, Valeri Liukin, the Rybackis, Maggie Haney.... All the disgraceful coaches who facilitated this- call them out and forever keep calling them out!!👊💪

@@ctruth6185 she did fall. A messed up landing would mean she stepped a couple of times, McKayla sat down on the landing so it counts as a fall.
