As a service dog handler, I’ve had my fair amount of tense conversations with people who aren’t aware of service dog laws, or maybe people who doubt my need for a service dog since I “look so normal”... so I was in utter shock about the amazing conversation I had on Tuesday with a restaurant employee! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

I had a conversation with a family who wanted to get a service dog for their daughter who had PTSD and it was awesome how welcoming they were to the wealth if info. They didn't know that registrations were scams and I was able to send them to some good facebook groups.

The Frey Life many years ago I did consider just paying a fee and faking my dog was service animal because my anxiety is also more controlled when she's around... Mainly because she gets so anxious I can focus on keeping her calm. I'm so glad I didn't! Since I've found you guys 2 years ago this August, I have very much enjoyed learning about this situation. And I can say I have educated people about this issue when they tell me to just "put a vest and patch on her and you can take her anywhere". Thanks to you guys I always have an educated answer to give them on how that is wrong. So thank you :)

I've noticed Peter doesn't get mentioned in many comments so I wanted to say that Peter , you are amazing at taking care of Mary and editing the vlog and all of the other things you have to juggle, thank you Peter for being so supportive to the community and I admire your strength a lot. As for Mary and Oliver you are also very strong and amazing as well I just wanted to make sure Peter gets the recognition he deserves and doesn't frequently receive. Don't forget to be greatfull, mindful, and wonderful and take it one step at a time. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thats awesome how he asked!!! Just the other day, a guy threatened to shut down a store if I didn't leave because of my Service dog.. I explained to him how that's discrimination and that he can't do that.. He did say that he gets alot of fake SDs. So I explained his rights, like basically if a human can't do it, a dog can't do it. If a dog licks food then he can ask them to leave. But I Exexpained my dogs doing nothing of the sorts he's doing everything he is supposed too, so I explained he can't ask him To leave just because he's a dog. Then when I sat down (out of the way) to have my dog task, he was all like "Are u going to shop? " I was like umm my dogs tasking and my group was shopping... It was ridiculous! I wish more people would just ask to be educated instead of jumping to conclusions!

Mary, my prayers are with you. I have been in and out of the hospital myself with heart failure & diabetes. But I am out now!!!! I am putting you on my prayer list that i keep personally. I hope that you get to the hospital and get to feeling better sis. It is really good that you have a firm grip on reality and the reality of CF. You guys kind of helped me look at the reality of heart failure, if I don't start taking care of this vessel (body) that I could die. It's reality for me. Love you and Peter and I so greatly enjoy watching your vlogs. I usually come in about noon or a little after and eat while I am watching your vlogs. It's something that's a part of my routine. What an inspirational part it is too!!! Peter you take care of you and that ankle so when Mary needs you that you will be fully there. It's really hard for caretakers too and I would encourage you to maybe visit a caregiver support group once and a while so that you can have your needs met too as you are an amazing husband & caregiver & pastor. You said it yourself, you wear a lot of hats. So make sure that you are getting filled up too. Once in a while our church pastor will bring in another pastor to preach on a Sunday so that He can be fed too. Always, an idea on weeks that you know you will be with Mary in the hospital. Anyways, I'm just trying to help and sometimes I give too much advice so I'm going to stop it here. Love you guys and hope you have a good night.

The service dog issue is so close to my heart as someone who is visually impaired! I really try to educate especially with the confusion between service animal rights and emotional support animals. It’s beyond harmful that people just buy vests and certificates and don’t even care to research the laws. It truly gives working dogs/animals a bad rep!! I can’t tell you how many times people bring their ESA -real or fake -into private business and don’t realize how they don’t have the same rights as service animals. People can be so selfish. So anyway thank you for spending the time to explain things to the manager! 💕

But when they cause new symptoms, I get emotionally unbalanced. That's what I'm going thru' now. I've come down with new symptoms and I'm not sure how to level out my emotions to deal with this "new normal", but I want to do it with grace and joy. Please pray for me?

Lol. If you were paying close attention, Mary signed the letters I-N-G with her hands. I noticed it the first time and immediately backed the video up just to make sure I had seen that right. Its right at the 9 minute 38 second mark. I'm surprised that I recognized it, considering I haven't actively used sign language since my brother was little (17+ years ago). It's amazing what the body does naturally without the brain actively realizing, whether it be signing or hand motions while speaking or other nervous habits.

You guys have opened my eyes so much to how service Dogs should be. I have severe anxiety (have been hospitalized for anxiety attacks that i cant control and don't even realize im as anxious as my body has symptoms for sometimes.) I do have a "service dog" that was actually perscribed to be and has been to basic training and is a great deal of help but i understand through you guys that i could abuse having him so much because he isnt a professionally trained service animal for a chronic illness, hes just my support basically. I take him to places where any dog is allowed (mainly to get him out and i use his services more at home since i live alone) but places where it isnt apporpriate to have a nonservice dog ive l have learned through you guys. I guess i never realized what it could hurt before if i just bring him along since he is registered and is doctor perscribed to me but isnt a professionally trained service animal for a chronic illness.

Madelyn Stoll did he train to be a support animal? If so what kind of training? It's interesting to hear. 😄

    • @karenannmcmillan2206
      @karenannmcmillan2206 6 років тому

Madelyn Stoll I’m a little confused because at first you say your dog is a service dog with some professional basic training. Then later you say you only take your dog where non-service dogs can go. In the USA you can legally train your own service dog with or without professional help. It’s your choice. And you can legally take your Service Dog in Training into public areas where pets are not allowed in more than 30 states. You can find this information for the Federal laws at ADA.gov (then do a search for Service Dogs). You can find your state ADA laws by a simple internet search with your states name and ADA service dog laws.
Does the letter from your physician state you need a service dog or an emotional support dog? I can also tell you that most physicians are NOT educated in the ADA Service Dog laws, and they don’t know how to write a proper letter for a service dog. If you need a Service Dog please don’t be intimidated, there are so many people making UA-cam videos that show you how to train your own Service Dog. And the ADA.gov website has samples you can print out to give to doctors so you can get a proper letter. Happy adventures to you!

Karen Ann McMillan yes I know, he’s only 9 months old and he’s trained for anxiety attacks professionally and basic puppy training. I only take him to certain places though because I feel his training isn’t appropriate for public use really. He’s still a hyper puppy that barks occasionally at other Dogs but I did train him and have a doctor prescription for him for severe anxiety attacks and panic attacks that I have. I take him places like hobby lobby or target that allow all dogs but even though I have an ADA card for him I don’t feel comfortable bringing him to like a restaurant for example. I know I have every right to bring him I just personally feel like I would be abusing my right if that makes sense because it’s for something like anxiety that is frowned upon but someone with PTSD or a terminal/chronic illness I feel like it’s much more appropriate. I just feel not all service animals are appropriate everywhere and mine is one where I choose not to for that reason. Ollie I fully believe should be! But he’s also not an “emotional support” service animal like mine. It’s not has looked down on as if I bring my boy and he’s not trained in the same way as Ollie. I havnt trained him or have had him trained
I do know all the information you shared though. I had to have it to register him:)

Karen Ann McMillan I do have a literal doctor prescription for him and an ADA certificate and ID cards for him so he is a legal service animal. I just feel it’s not appropriate in my case to take him certain places in public and abuse a right I was given.

You might want to consider doing a Q&A about your conversation with the manager of the place you were at. I think it would be interesting...just talking about the wording of the conversation a bit more and talk more about what questions he had....

Random question: is it hard to go to the dentist because you have to keep your mouth open without coughing? 🤔

If only everyone was like that. Is stupid people hold a grudge because they don't think it's fair to other pet owners but service dogs are so amazing and important and they are always 'at work' at the end of the day. People should respect them

That's great, Hebrews 13:2, "for thereby some have entertained angels unaware". Never know... I've had experiences after my accident, that left me feeling defeated due to select hospital staff. Depends on the individuals you get, God set ppl in my path w/ unwavering testimony. That's the light & beauty in this world. Glad to have worked medical but switching careers, something I originally wanted to pursue! So excited! Oh.. what an adventure it will be. Bonesy.. showing off his toys..sweetheart. 💕:)

    Yea Tony!
An advertisement popped up on my search engine today on how to get your dog “certified” as a service dog. 😡 This kind of website does not help the situation... sigh....
So glad you had a great date in the city!
Start packing your bags, girly, in case you get “the” call to be admitted to the the hospital.
Laughing, “she liked that coffee” - it looks like she is still feeling the affects of that coffee! 🤣
I’m praying for peace, clarity, conformation & God’s perfect timing!💕

I feel that there really does need to be some sort of certification for service dogs. So many people are abusing the term "service dog."
Just like having a parking placard for someone disabled. I can't just bring my dog in anywhere unless I would lie and say he's a service dog. I have to pay to board him.

I had a similar experience with the library here. After running into fakes there, I went to the owner and she was so interested and really wanting to learn. she really wanted to know how she can control these fakes in her library.
