This song makes me so sad because it's such a happy song but it's just Alison trying to block out all the bad stuff going on :(
That's actually why the song TERRIFIES me on a deep level (but like. super fake false positivity and talking dolls do that too). Everything is NOT alright.
I saw this show live a few years ago and I just. Couldn't look away, couldn't breathe, tears streamin' down my face... it sounds dumb but GOD, it hit...
I agree, and that last few ... everything's alright is almost haunting
This song legit sounds like a classic from the 70s and I'm having a hard time believing its not
i was in the second row for this so the fog wafted into my face and i remember being so incredibly confused when it first started
Same here😂 I was confused and amazed. Also, at the end of Edges of The World I was so surprised with the truck horns and lights blaring
That last "everything's alright" sounds so broken, wow.
the context of this makes this sad
Today I woke up with a feeling that I did not recognize
(strange feeling, yeah)
Oh, our happy life seemed far away and everything was made of lies
(lies, yeah)
The sky was turning dark when baby I looked in your eyes
And that's when I knew
Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh
Everything's alright, babe, when we're together
(when we're together)
'Cause you are like a raincoat made out of love
(keeping me dry)
Magic shield of love protecting me from bad weather
(rain from the sky)
You are like a raincoat made out of love
A raincoat of love love love love love
Everything's alright, babe, when we're together
(when we're together)
'Cause you are like a raincoat made out of love
(keeping me dry)
Magic shield of love protecting me from bad weather
(rain from the sky)
You are like a raincoat made out of love
A raincoat of love
(love love love love love)
A raincoat of love
(love love love love love)
Everything's alright babe when we're together
Everything's alright babe when we're together
Everything's alright babe when we're together
Everything's alright
Everything's alright
Everything's alright
I just saw Fun Home today and this honestly was my favorite song
This was my favorite part of the show.
I love this song so much... I wish there was an instrumental (T^T)
this was the best show ever and i loved this song
Can someone explain the context of this song in the show? I don't know what it's about really.
+Kristianja Pantoflii Small Alison is trying to block out the sound of her parents fighting, so she imagines her family to be this one big happy family like the Partridge Family.
Thank you, but what I don't get is that there's a completely different voice in the beginning, like one of Bruce Bechdel's pursuits... that's the part I don't understand. Michael Cerveris's voice is more rough, not smooth like the opening's. And the "everything's alright" part as it ends, I don't get either.
+Kristianja Pantoflii The guy singing in the beginning is also the guys who plays the other incidental male characters and Bruce's pursuits, but in this scene, he's sort of like a TV show host for the Bechdel family.
Bruce's voice at the end indicates how everything is actually not alright; he's still struggling with his marriage, sexuality, and counts of statutory rape.
Thanks for clarifying! :)
+Kristianja Pantoflii At the end of the song, the scene turns into Bruce at the courthouse being charged with furnishing alcohol on a minor. When he says "everything's alright" he is trying to calm himself down before taking the stand
Today I learned it's Valentino that sings this song.
Me too
00:53 01:25 When, in unison, they twice sing “You are like a raincoat,” this sounds like a direct homage to a 1970’s song that I cannot quite place. Does anyone have any guesses as to the song I might be hearing on an unconscious level?
Maybe Jackson 5 ?
@@Howling_Ghosts Which song? I definitely hear the Jackson Five’s “I Want You Back” in “Come To The Fun Home”.
It reminds me of how deep is your love ? not sure
I recently listened to “Tracy” by The Cufflinks, and that sounds like an inspiration for this song.
My sister told me that this song was about AIDS and that Alison was afraid that her father would get it.
+Meredith Scherer That's possible, I guess. But Alison mentions in the book that her father died before the AIDS epidemic, and she speculates that her father might have died of AIDS if he'd only lived longer.
Meredith Scherer in the book she describes how he died prior to AIDS outbreak. Many of his partners were young men (18-19) but he cruised in NYC when he traveled there. So possibly he could have gotten infected there and got sick and maybe gotten his wife sick too.
TheDevonnMarieShow doubt it. Hellen died thirty years after Bruce died.
+TheDevonnMarieShow I can't imagine they were having sex
@@Breerox108 I mean...your not wrong
Saddest song
I'm doing a dance
I love Joel Perez.
