I studied this bike for a year and just had to have one. Found a leftover 2018 in black - which is what I wanted anyway. Still too much silver on it for my taste, so I blacked it all out - a real head turner. No, it's not the baddest bike on the block, but it's certainly the best looking. Besides, in normal use, who needs more than 145 HP? I traded in a VFR1200F for this bike and I'm happy as hell with it. It'll keep up with the VFR up to 80 MPH, and believe me, 467 pounds is a lot more fun than 600 pounds. Smoothest engine in the world, and, yes, the muffler sounds just fine. Plenty of torque in any gear - even in 6th at 25 MPH it's got smooth strong acceleration. I've never ever been burned by a Honda, from my Super-90's in the '60's, my first true love CB750 in 1970, a CL450, V45 750, V65 Sabre, V65 Magna, VFR1200F, and now this beauty. I love this bike. Call it Naked, call it NeoSports Café, call it whatever you want - it's a great bike.
I just got my CB1000R and have been riding in rain mode for now because it has been raining , great is the word that describes the pick up around town where I have been mainly using it and in part on main roads. Pick up is very satisfying being able to leave traffic without any fuss or drama. It is very well balanced at low speeds providing confidence in U-turns and filtering. The steering is direct giving very good feedback which inspires you to change direction with ease. The exhaust note is a low satisfying hum accompanied with burbles and pops when you release the throttle and change gear, A great bike that looks, sounds and run and will keep you thinking you are lucky to be able to ride it.
Really enjoyed your perspective of this bike. Mine will be delivered on the 3rd Sept and I chose the Candy apple red. (Who wouldn't!). Unfortunately we do not get the + model in Australia, but I will definitely fit the quickshifter and the rear seat cowl. Once again thanks for the review and I have subbed. Stay safe.
Thank you Andrew! Yes, I really like the black too but if I had to put down my own hard earned cash down, it'd be on the red! It just went so well with the other colors, I was really surprised as to how well it all went together. On another note, you really don't need a quickshifter...all the close ratio transmissions can be blipped no problem :) And this bike is no exception, in fact Honda made this for the occasional track day (Fireblade motor w/a Fireblade trans) so it can be used as a track day weapon and that means no clutch (when done with the proper technique).
I picked up a new 2019 about a month ago. Took it into the shop for the standard 600mi oil swap, adding oem heated grips and 12v socket. Hoping to have it back for the weekend!

@@scottamolinari yes, I stand corrected. I must say that this bike looks fantastic in black for the 2021 and 2022 years. Sad though that the Honda dealers where I live do not allow test rides.
@@scottstetson2879 No worries. :) And yes, it is an excellent bike (I only know from watching tons of reviews and my son test riding one). I'm picking my new (used) one on Friday. Yippeee!!!
My last bike was a 919 which is in line with this model. I've found their styling is great however it looks like it's "cropped". It looks a little stubby in length and i'm not sure what they could do to visually change that. I think the only issue I have is with the LED display. Everything is right with this bike except that.
What a thorough review. I grew up on Honda’s (v4s) but honestly they have not stirred my soul in a long timel. It’s been Ducati’s Aprilia’s and BMW’s in the garage. I had a Tuono Factory that was amazing but I always worried about life past the warranty and it’s heat. I miss that sporting street bike ride and this Honda has me thinking about a purchase. Looks great. But does riding it leave you feeling meh? Too refined or does it have character?
Hi tdeloriea, thank you, yes me too, my first 3 bikes were Honda's. So I know how you feel. I've made the same change from Honda to "character/emotion" with now having a KTM 1290 Super Duke R for 3 years now and I won't go back...at least yet but and this is a big but, this is the first Honda that might bring me back into the Honda fold...so to speak. The looks are great and it is typical Honda refinement...so herein lies the problem with this bike. It left me like you said, "meh", I liked it but not enough soul yet, it didn't move me like the Aprilla/KTM/Ducati's of the world. But they are the definition of emotion in motorcycling. If I looked at this bike from a purely logical stand point, then I'd buy it right now but when emotion plays into it...then it becomes a different matter.
Yea, I grew up in the States and I always hated that when the OEM would give for Example, Europe 3, 4 or even 5 different colors but the States would only get ONE color! And they are still doing it today...so I moved to Europe...lol.
I see the 2019 is coming in the red for those in the USA. So if you want a black you better step up and grab what's there. Honda is only bringing in a few each year.
Nice review, I went to see the bike in store today. I'm located in Japan and got it quoted at 1636200 yen (12613.11 Euros). I'll book a test ride soon. Might buy it.
Hi and glad I could help you decide. The Suzuki and Honda have two different approaches to this bike class. And the Honda has upgrades in several areas, performance being one of them, the looks is where I think Honda nailed it. But also you are going to pay more for the Honda...so it's a give and take and if you have the extra money, the Honda is worth it.
Hope you didnt! You wont be able to throw the Honda round like you can with the GSXS 1000. Different bikes. The Suzuki is far more sport riding oriented.
I agree its a great looking bike, with the rear seat cowl attached reminds me of a moto go bike, however I believe there is a problem. I currently have a Yamaha FZ8 which in my opinion is a better bike than the MT07 and 09, you simply cant throw those bikes into bends fast. The FZ8 is in this regard a faster bike because its design enables it to be ridden fast. The CB1000r whilst having respectable torque and bhp figures, as I understand from other reviews cannot be ridden 'fast' because the front wheel is positioned a little further forward than sports nakeds. This will mean you cannot throw it in like you dont care like you can with full sports nakeds. That said, I havent ridden it but it is a lovely bike. I saw a tweet from a guy recently who stated Honda need to bring out a full sports naked and i agree with that. A CBR1000N would go down a storm
